Hi Peter I’ve been experimenting with the new midi buttons. They seem to work great and every press and song load song stop action is appearing as it should on my midi monitor. Unfortunately my laptop dmx audio and midi software works in a strange manner and prefers to be stopped and started with the same midi command and so the send midi on stop function isn’t helping me but I’m sure many will love that. If I have a false start on a song, I have to press stop then play then stop for my software to see the start/ stop midi command, but that’s obvioulsly a quirk of my Showmagic software not st3. The action buttons are a great addition, I’d love to be able to use these as volume increment buttons on the channels of my digital desk but that’s beyond me. They will work great for muting the echo or turning on the smoke machine or turning the lights off.

What can I say Peter other than a huge thankyou for your hard work.

peter Naming of duplicate songs

Hi Peter, naming is much better now
But! When you make more than two copies consecutively the naming remains Blah Blah Copy 2 it does not go on to 3,4 etc and if you reselect the same song and make another copy it actually creates another Blah Blah Copy and then Blah Blah Copy 2 again it keeps creating the 2 copy until you reselect the same song so this means you would end up with multiple same name songs.
Every new copy should have its new number in the name.

Yes, autoplay and crossfade are broken but I didn't have time to fix it yet. Will do in the next update.

Regarding the stale sync: Restarting the app will try to resync. But I guess a sync button in settings to manually start a sync would also be nice. As to why your sync finished without loading all songs, I am currently a bit clueless. Maybe the sync started when not all songs have been uploaded to the cloud or there is a items limit I am not aware of that limits the number of songs that can be downloaded in one sync.

Hi Peter after update I started from scratch , I used iPad as my main device and successfully sent 22gb of data to iCloud and I could see it happening with the new data indicator, also data used by iCloud confirmed this, I then started from scratch on iMac and started syncing to iCloud downloading has and I hope is happening because I have all the data files and some audio files but not all perhaps 5% of audio files, now after quite a while I am sitting around like a stale bottle of piss not knowing what is happening as the I cloud data indicator states this , Last Sync:22mar 2023 at 10:47:33 and it’s just sitting there as I have thousands of files they all are mainly in red meaning missing, so now I don’t know what is happening, as there is no indication anywhere that the loading process is still happening and I could be just wasting my time waiting for the rest of the songs to appear. Any suggestions?
I have pulled the sync thing and it has updated something but I have no idea what’s going on right now all I’m doing is praying other files are loading but nothing seems to be moving at a noticeable pace.

I purposelly waited for my ipad 22gb to complete its upload to the cloud so when that completed the ipad seemed happy , so i then tried imac to sync all the database went through as expected but only some files were loaded and then the imac settled in to a mode that it did not sync anymore and no matter what i tried like restarting the program did not trigger a new resync, so i dont know if it thinks its up to date and not trying or is there a sync number limit as i have 2900 files, its beyond my pay grade.
I will try various things but unfortunately my library is very large.
Has anyone successfully synced up that uses smaller data amount?
A manual sync button would be great as what happens now is all data is lost if you turn off icloud sync.
Another thing to consider is i tried loading a full backup with icloud on, once the process went through then it did not seem to comlete.
So i turned icloud off and did the same full backup load and the the process did complete , but i am not sure if i waited long enough in the first attempt although it was ages i waited and gave up.
Perhaps others with small database can try this as it might be an issue.

Hi Peter, i have left my devices and ST3 beta open for a while , i started of with ipad with 2644 files now my ipad has 3800 all others are duplicates beeing created, the database on my imac has also synced to this and has 3800 files with unknown duplicates , i am getting some songs with 2 3 and four duplicates there are less no audio files but a lot of duplicates, the red colour indicating missing files disappear so i think i have the file but when i click on it it goes red again so i am totally confused i cant trust the red indicator highlight , so its pot luck as you select each song some have the audio file others don't but once i select a non red file it turns red after selection if it has no audio file.
So the red indicator system is not reliable at all..

Hi Peter

I’m just putting this out here in case any of the members or yourself have a fix for this.

I use touch osc and st3 to send midi program changes to trigger a sequence on a laptop via Wi-Fi midi. Rtp midi.

So I associate a sequence on my laptop with say CH1 PC 09. I embed this in touch osc or st3 lyric and press play on either device and the sequence starts. If I want to stop the sequence and restart it using touch osc I hit the song button once and the sequence stops and rewinds. If I was to press on another song on touch osc, the first song would stop and the next song would be triggered instantly. If I want to start and stop a sequence using st3 I have to press play, then stop then play then stop. The sequencer needs to see a midi command which would be transmitted in this case on the third push of play on st3.

When you announced the new midi features I downloaded the beta and hoped I could associate the send on stop command with a different command for every song but this is not the case. So I thought what if I had a silent track on the laptop sequencer that was triggered when a song was stopped on st3, I’ve tried this and this is what happens.

So in lyrics for a song I embed ch1 PC 09 with the appropriate brackets and syntax. In the st3 send midi on stop I will use ch13 PC 13 and associate this with 30 seconds of silence in the laptop sequence.

This is what happens. I press play on st3 beta and my sequencer sees ch1 09 and plays a song. I press stop and the sequencer midi monitor sees the 13/13 info but fails to respond. I press play again on st3 and the sequence sees 01/09 and stops, I press stop on st3 and the sequence sees 13/13 and plays the silence.

So I thought what if I use the new action buttons and associate them to silence to stop the sequence, so with the same settings as before, I press play on st3 and the sequence starts, I press stop on st3 and the sequencer is still running. I push action button 1 and this triggers silence I press it again and the silence ends. I now want to restart the original song so I push play and the song starts, I press stop and it triggers silence. I push start I get my song, I push stop and the song still plays. It’s like my sequencer only sees the actions of the play button, every other press.

I’m totally baffled and wonder has anyone experienced this.

I guess your best option is to use a midi monitor to see what is sent when exactly and troubleshoot from there. If you then still need help please start a new thread as this has nothing to do with the beta.

Thanks Peter, I’ll see how it goes with feedback from the Showmagic team. I only mentioned it on this thread because I’m exploring avenues with the new midi action buttons that are exclusive to the beta but I probably failed to mention that. The new buttons are a great addition but my software is not playing nice.

Hi Peter, I have now decided to reduce my beta song size to 20 songs so I can test the syncing a lot faster, so I went to song mode hit edit and selected all my songs on the iPad and left 20 songs to stay, now this is great to do as it’s fast , but when I hit the rubbish bin the software seems to go in to freeze, which is also expected except due to my large library 3800 songs the long freeze made me think something was wrong, what is needed is some visual bar or indicator that the delete processing is in progress so the user knows when it finishes.
I was going to do more tests today but my home Internet is out for the day for maintenance, bummer.

Hi Peter , I've got my internet back , and have reduced my ipad song total to 20 songs the imac responded to this correctly by reducing its database to 20 songs but for some reason 6 of my 20 songs have not loaded on the imac, those same six songs have highlighted in red on my ipad but when i choose them they play ok and they loose the red missing colour but on my imac the same six songs are highlighted in red and do not play as they are missing the audio file. So the conclusion is the missing songs sync is not related to the number of songs you have in a library, but 5 out of six were .wav files so i thought that might have some5hing to do with it but the damn last sixth song was a .m4a song so perhaps this is not the issue to why these 6 songs have been left out of being synced.
I am running out of ideas.
Any suggestions?

Hi Peter, i have just removed my 20 songs on imac and turned off the iclod sync, then i turned it back on , well then i got the twenty songs again that seem to be my ST3 ipad named song titles but i also got my ST3 20 songs that are the actual file names as well so now i have 42 songs on imac i assume the imac has synced up to icloud that now has the ipads original file song names and the changed filenames plus i have 2 more files i don't know how or why they appeared.And my iPad now has 42 songs files, i think whats happening is the file names and the TITLE song names are treated by iCloud as two different sources and are added on in to the icloud database, this is duplicating the songs in icloud.
So i am getting more and more confused.
You need to have one file name that is synced either the title or the file name not both as its confusing the icloud.
I never liked the confusion of files are treated, i expect my song file name to be the master of my file.
So when i name my file on my computer this is the actual name used in ST3 to be the song, the artist is an additional information , but the file name is the song name and there is no confusion. I don't understand to why we need a file name and a title name , the two should be one , this simplifies everything , as a musician i expect this logic as the song name is the file name, i am not a computer operator i am a simple musician needing my song file thats named to sync up to all my devices , it should be very simple , so why is it so comlicated?

Hi Peter i have manually removed the 22 extra files that appeared mysteriously, the good news is both devices remove the files fairly quickly and work in sync as expected and it does not seem to matter which device you delete the files on the other follows.
There are questions i have , on iMac if i choose to load a song i don't get the option iTunes or Music library but on iPad & iPhone i do.
The other thing is if i choose to load from local and iCloud files I've got no idea how to find the ST3 folder to choose files from it again , i know i have a shortcut in settings but thats not where i am at this stage so how do i find my ST3 folder?
Another thing is when i do load a file that i created earlier in ST3 but have removed it but now i want it back all my data like loop , lyrics and colour schemes are gone , this means i have to redo all my work again for every song if i was to load them individually back in to ST3, is this wise, how do i create and save a file that retains all my hard work and it stays with that song if i unload it and reload it?
I know this is a lot to take in so only respond if you have time.

Latest test , i Cleared iphone and imac ST3 folder and turned off the icloud sync on them , i double checked i had 20 songs on ipad interface and the ST3 folder then i reset the icloud to sync up to this ipad, i waited for a while, then i fired up the imac , it loaded 20 songs on the interface just like it should but it also loaded two extra song files to my ST3 folder , this means icloud is not cleaning itself to new complete device connection it has two files its retaining , so then i fired up the iphone and waited and still am waiting as i write this , i got all 20 songs as expected in the interface but only 11 songs are in the ST3 folder and its still not loaded the other 9 possibly 11 songs if you include the two songs that load mysteriously.
So something is wrong in icloud.

Damir, you open too many mostly unrelated topics. Too much for me to process. Just some quick notes:

When you delete songs, only the audio files attached to these songs are deleted. Same thing happens when you restore a backup. Only audio files, attached to songs are deleted before restoring the backup. When you then refresh the song list, it will pick up all leftover audio files and add them to your library. I guess that's why you see these duplicates.

ST3 uses the title tag as the default song title. It will only use the file name when there is no song title.

To go to the ST3 folder, open settings and scroll down. You will find a shortcut at the bottom of the settings page.

To store audio region settings, export a song through the export feature as a .stsa file.

I have done this but how do I then import this file ?
Also when exporting one file only it would be very useful to load the song name in automatically for us so we can recognise the file, if I try to rename it the songs list is hidden by the export window I can see the songs title to be able to name it exactly. I understand your reason for bulk saving but it’s not friendly for single export.

I thought as you delete a song you get a choice to just delete that particular database of that song or the database and the audio itself which gets rid of everything relating to that song including the audio, if that’s not true perhaps that’s why we are getting weird results.
My audio file is god it can be used by multiple created songs and each songs database controls this audio file in its selected way, when you decide to delete any of those songs you get to choose if you just delete that database or if you choose the other option you will get rid of all databases using that song and the audio file itself, this logic is what I thought was used, if not then I can see why we are all getting unusual behaviour.

Because you do not bother to set any tags on your audio files.

How many songs are in your library? Can you check if these songs are indeed missing in the ST3 folder?
