Vickyemma....Did you do these steps?

I disabled Apple Muisc
I downloaded all my purchased songs from iTunes onto the backup iPad
I deleted and reinstalled Stage Traxx
Then I uploaded a recent backup from Drop Box

All Imcan say is my Stage Traxx Song data base is working fine again. I haven’t dared to re-activate Apple Music although for some reason I can listen to Apple Music songs but can’t save them to this iPad. I use an iMac for that purpose.

Vickyemma Could you please try to just quit Stage Traxx when this happens. Double tap on the home button to open the task switcher and swipe the app to the top. Then restart Stage Traxx. If your tracks will play back again, I know what the problem might be.

peter sorry for the late reply Peter ...I did as you said...error message came up, I exited the app and reloaded...Tracks will play again but not the ones that are red t. It played about 3 songs on continuous play and the 4th song went red... one repaired they are okbut it seems to not be consistent in which go red or play. I’m stumped 🤔 *once repaired even...

peter I have managed to video what happens during play...can I send it to you somehow if you think it would help. It won’t let me put it on here...it’s just over 2 mins long

By your description, I'm not sure what did play after the restart and what did not play. Did the song for which the error message popped up play correctly after the restart or not?

Do you have Dropbox? Upload the video to Dropbox and send me a link.

peter no the song that was missing didn’t play after restart. I will upload to Dropbox

      a year later

peter having just paid my £9.99 for this app, i find i can't use it as I have an apple music account, and 90% of my backing tracks i use are from here. It would have been nice to be informed about that before purchasing, as the money is now wasted,

247BSMITH01 It is written in the manual and there is also a free lite version to try before buying. But in any case you can contact Apple support and request a refund.

        a year later

I tried some of the suggestions listed here and these files are still red. Is there something that will help?

If I am to reload Stage Traxx I need to make a copy of the songs. How do I do that?

I tried ST3 and dislike it. You do not need to have all this complication when you are performing. I like the simplicity of ST2.

        Thanks, Tom

Tom, can you specify what "some of these suggestions" mean?

          Try this:

          1. Make sure Apple Music subscription is disabled on the iPad
          2. Check in the iPad music app that you see all your songs and can play them back
          3. In the iPad settings, scroll down to Stage Traxx and check that access to the music library is enabled

If you needed to change any of the above points, stop Stage Traxx in the task switcher and restart it to see if the songs now show up. If not, do this:

          1. Open Stage Traxx
          2. Open the Playlist Manager (top left button)
          3. Select a playlist with missing songs for editing by tapping on the (i) button
          4. Missing songs are red, select one red song
          5. Tap on the "Repair iTunes link" button on the bottom of the window
          6. Browse to the correct song in the iTunes library and select it

Repeat above steps for all missing songs.

If this still does not help, tell me exactly what you tried.

TomsKJ Oh, and because I am curios: Did you do anything special before the songs went missing? Things like syncing your iPad to iTunes or updating iOS?

peter I am repairing this for a friend, so I am not sure if he did something. My problem with this is it should not happen. I noticed Apple Music was enabled. I disabled it and restarted and nothing happened. My feeling is - why does it make a difference? It should not and I am unsure if it does. It is enabled on my iPad and I do not have this issue.

Doing the repair link per your instructions in Stage Traxx seems to be working. However, it is super tedious. There are hundreds of songs listed in his various playlist. It will take days to fix every song. You are also right some songs seem to be missing. I am unsure where they went. I can't understand why this happens and why we as users allow this from Apple and their operating system. This has never happened with Windows or Android.

            I hate this so much.

Thanks so much for your help, Tom

OK, something fundamentally changed in the last weeks regarding the access to songs in the iTunes library. I do get support requests every day and we also have multiple threads in the forum about this. I will write a big FAQ post why this is happening, what to do when it happens and how to prevent it in the future.

Thanks again for the help and the page you wrote up about this issue. I am amazed though that Apple can do something like changing the persistentID and get away with it. Why in the name of any sane reasoning would they inconvenience their users like this? It has made me feel like getting rid of anything using iOS and never using it again.

The details about having a title and author in the song info did not pan out for me. Most of the songs I have checked had this data in the song info. Yet they are still red.

I would like to do as described in, ... if you don't want to use the iTunes music library any longer.
Trouble is, I do not know how to do this. It might be that iTunes is not letting me for some reason. Could it be that my computer has my login credentials and the iPad has my friends login? I did use his login with iTunes. I also, do not know what is meant by where the files are located. Would you be willing to describe exactly what these phrases mean? Like Local files, where on my iPad are these? Can I use iTunes to show the difference?

I am very much in favor of switching to ST3. However, it is not as simple to operate as ST2. One thing you do not need is messing with the program while you are trying to perform. I wish we could get the simplicity of ST2 while having the robustnous of ST3.

As always, thanks much for your help, Tom

Not sure what you mean by complexity of ST3. What exactly do you find complex?

Moving away from iTunes is only possible if you used your computer to sync music to the iPad. If this was done by your friend, then he needs to export audio files from iTunes.

Once you have a bunch of audio files, fire up iTunes, connect the iPad, select the iPad in iTunes and open the File Sharing tab. There you will see Stage Traxx, select this and here you can just drop the audio files into the iTunes window. This will copy them to the iPad.

Well in your case the problem might be the Apple Music subscription. It is possible that the subscription recognized songs in the music library and replaces them with the same song from the subscription. I don't know when exactly this happens but it might happen. In that case the copy protection kicks in and even the song is there and can be played back by the iPad music app, it is no longer accessible by Stage Traxx.

When you remove the subscription, the songs from the subscription are removed. That's why you see some songs even missing in the iPad music app.

I would love to switch to ST3. I wish ST3 was easy like ST2. I want to be able to pick a song and play it. Even after getting a song to play and I change my mind and want something else ST3 is locked on that song until it is finished. I must swipe the progress bar to the end after pausing then let it finish playing before I can select something else. This is one of the things wrong with ST3. There are other things I would like to solve and then move on to the latest version.

TomsKJ all you need to do is go to "Settings", then "Queue", and turn off
"Advance Queue Mode" this option will allow ST3 to operate like ST2.
