Damir yes I agree. Using the artist field doesn’t really work for us. We have numerous versions of the same song where the original artist is defined to allow us to distinguish which version of the song it is. We could still add the key in there as well but it is messy. And as you say, not possible to filter by key, something we often do

Well for me at least, the priority would be find replace. Having to do all my lyric editing externally is a pain. I guess it would be easier if the text editor I use supported your markdown formatting. I currently use Sublime but that does not. How are you doing this?

I edit in Stage Traxx on my Mac.

MarkGuitar When exporting stem from Logic, the markers in Logic are exported in the audio file (if using Wav). Which is great.
Is it possible for the colour of the marker section to be carried over onto ST as well?

No, the color information is not exported by Logic.

I use a consistent colour scheme for Verse, Chorus , Intro etc which is a great help to glance at the screen and know what section we are on. It’s amazing how quickly I get to know that a yellow section coming up is a solo etc.

MarkGuitar I use green for solo red for intro and ending , 2 blues for verses, yellow and orange for choruses as they are more energetic so brighter colours , verses are calmer so calmer colours , and purple for bridges or any other unusual things in a song.
So I totally LOVE and use colour for an on stage advantage to gain peace of mind while performing.

Damir Yes me too. And it would be great if the colors of the markers I used in Logic came across when importing the stems. Not even sure if that info is actually in the WAV file with the marker. Peter?

MarkGuitar I don’t bother with logic markers transfer , it’s quick to create audio segments in the editor and colour them , I don’t think they are transferred anyway unless you use .wav export.

I agree that songs need more 'properties' and key is definitely a useful addition. I also asked yesterday if sorting by BPM could be a thing which you seemed to agree with 🙂

I rarely use a set-list because I can never know what the makeup of the audience will be in advance. What I would find extremely useful is an intelligent filter that shows suggestions for the next song based on the BPM and/or genre of the current or last song... so if, they are enjoying a 140bpm rock song I hit the 'genre' button and it shows me my other rock songs sorted by tempo with a cursor at or near 140bpm. I believe this would also be useful where a song bridges two genres as it would allow you to seamlessly move from say country to pop on a pivot song (e.g. '9 to 5' by Dolly Parton).

I currently use colour in the song names to show whether I play standard-tune, drop-d, baritone, keyboard or some combo of keyboard and guitar. Problem is that the songs in white or yellow stand out against the black background giving them an unintentional 'highlight'. I'd much rather all the song names were just white for equal visibility but that other pre-song reminders were given a field of their own. A coloured box or just a single character should be enough so e.g. 'S | 2 | Wonderwall' = Standard tuning with 2nd fret capo etc...

I appreciate that most bands would probably not find this extra info useful but as a solo performer with three different guitars, a capo and a keyboard it would definitely make my life easier.

I agree with your ideas, you could use FILTER for your needs as it will do what you need but in a very clumsy way while on stage.
FILTER is a great idea but takes a lot of effort to setup your songs correctly, then it is not on stage user friendly, it has simple logic how it works but it’s not easy to use on stage while performing, yes you can make it do anything you want but don’t forget to disable it after use or you get nothing you want.
I agree we need smart logic to help us go on with a successful show , I wouldn’t mind a quick way of either keeping the energy or slowing it down or perhaps changing the style of the performance with a simple button push to give me song choices there and then and so be able to simply change the mood of the evening , perhaps a totally new mindset needs to be introduced to achieve this.

Use keywords for genres. Then you can only show songs matching a certain keyword.

Yes, I already use keywords for genres but I also use it to distinguish between songs I play solo and in a duo: the 'keywords' and 'playlists' field do quite a lot of work already and I think adding a couple of extra fields (maybe just keyword 1, keyword 2 and keyword 3) that we can use (and maybe rename) as it suits us would help a lot... as long as they can also be filtered, of course.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who can see some use in this. You are right that trying to do this mid-performance with current filtering options is almost possible but difficult and that it needs the user to structure and categorize songs meaningfully to work but if we are willing to put that effort in, I think it could be rewarding.

A simple implementation is maybe a single, big button that cycles between genre (a new field like 'keywords'), bpm, and off and every time a song loads (or the button is pressed) the filter is updated based on the new song's genre(s) or tempo (+/- X%). Cycling the button to 'Off' just disables the filter and shows all songs with the default sort option. Seems a lot to gain and you're no more than two taps from where you were without it.
