I've also gone down the CME route for MIDI connections to my band's devices on stage.
I did originally choose the WIDI Bud Pro for my iPad, but I ran into one problem - when using a Lightning to USB 3 adapter so that I could plug in USB-A AND the lightning power connector, the WIDI Bud Pro is VERY wide and when sitting in the USB-A port, I could not have even the narrowest LIghtning cable plugged into the power port. Most adaptors are either laid out as USB-A next to Lightning, or a 3 port adapter as USB-A then Lightning in the middle, then another USB-A. But, I have seen one that was laid out as USB-A, USB-A, lightning, which would work as I could use the 2 outside ports.
That said, I ended up replacing the WIDI Bud Pro with the H4MIDI WC (https://www.cme-pro.com/h4midi-wc-usb-host-midi-interface/) + WIDI Core (https://www.cme-pro.com/widi-core/). That way I could connect both wireless devices AND wired devices. It also meant that one of the downstream devices (a Roland SPD-SX PRO drum sampler pad with a WIDI Master) could send triggers back to ST3 on the iPad for Song Start/Stop.
