Having Problems Switching to IPad from AppleLapBookPro??????

I haven’t repurchased a new version… I have so many lyrics, cues, key changes, tempo changes and PDFs on the old version, and wanted to try to salvage those things….

The way we were transferring the songs was your suggestion earlier about a thumb drive… but while we were all looking at that, the cloud connectivity came up, and we decided to do it that way.

I watched the transferring of the program and files from the old lap top onto the Thumb Drive, but today when I opened it up to look, there were only 7 songs (most of which were purchased at Apple).

I also watched as the Cloud Connect registered a complete job in transferring the songs off of the old computer to the iPad, but a lot of them were already red. I thought to myself I would just have to bite the bullet and rework those… then went to bed.

When I got up this morning, All but about 10 songs were red by then.

I do realize in hindsight, this was a pretty careless approach for me to let Apple wipe the old computer last night after… however, I can go onto the sites and restore them that way, but can’t even figure out how to go about that…

I really appreciate you taking time here.

LeanneProMusic I would restore your purchase on the new iPad as a starting point as the free version only lets you have 6 songs on it. You won’t be charged again if both have the same Apple ID.
Iicloud sync can be tricky for this reason but t’s odd some were showing red as they were being transferred over though…

LeanneProMusic have you made a full backup before starting anything and saved it to a safe spot?
Did they use airdrop ? If so all your files should be in the downloads folder on your new device .
Rule no 1
Never ever rely on iCloud unless you have a full backup of your data anywhere but iCloud , iCloud is a medium that syncs up your devices that is not 100% reliable, use it only as an aid to your work never as the the main tool of transfer.

For some reason, they couldn’t get Air Drop to work…. Not sure why…. There are only some files, less than 50, that I’ve found in my files on the new iPad. Just not sure how to bring them in to a new version so that they have all the key changes, tempos, pdfs and lyrics, etc. I can go to the maker of the mp3s and load them as original, then, I’ll start from scratch on all of the incidental information. Maybe that’s the only way now??? Thank you for this input, Damir…

LeanneProMusic make sure you save a full backup before, this saves everything and is the safest way to keep everything as it was, when updating devices or creating other backup devices, forget iCloud apart from device syncing.

I should have checked the thumb drive where we were backing up originally. Then at that point, we abandoned the thumb drive for the cloud….
A lot of confusion with lots of apple staff making suggestions, etc. When we abandoned the idea for the thumb drive, I should have checked it anyway, then would have seen it was incomplete. Too bad to learn this at this time 🙂. Cheers!

Wow, what a monumental fail of the Apple staff. Usually if you setup a new iPad you have the option to automatically restore everything from an old iPad. That would have included Stage Traxx and all its data. All that you would have needed to do afterwards is to restore your purchase. And that's it.

I agree with you, Peter! Also a problem is that I Some (but not a Lot) of technical expertise when it comes to computers. I have operated for over a year with StageTraxx 3 on a Mac lap top very beautifully and seamlessly. I cannot imagine doing the work I do without this program.

In talking with Apple yesterday and this morning, I wanted to see what is in a backup file that I forgot about… I created it on ST3 (on Laptop before surrendering it to trade-in) for the iPad) while at the Apple Store. I wanted to see what is in t before running on the new iPad, but I am not able to look inside the file. I would have to just run it and trust that all I need there, and if not, creating all of it again would cost me a so much time — which, like all of us, I do not have the luxury of.

The scary part is that I have re-tempoed, changed keys and created lyrics (only some pdfs) but many, many songs have just lyrics.

Apple Support keeps reminding me that the laptop I traded in is in a particular language (of course I understand that part), and that iPad won’t successfully run that information. The backup of the laptop is 5.47Gig showing in a file on the new ipad, but Apple Support can’t find away for me to view the contents of the file before running it to install.

I am afraid to lose all the tempo/key/lyric/pdf in the INFO section of the songs.

Apple says reach out to you for further support 🙂. Will the backup I created 2 days ago appear in the iPad version? I will be most happy to purchase a new ST3 if that will streamline things…

Any ideas?

I finally just held my breath, and ran the backup though it looked incomplete. But after it was finished installing everything is here! All contrary to Apple’s take on it about iPad not being able to import things from MacBookPro. Thank you, Peter!!! Good luck with your ventures! Your product is totally Elegant!

LeanneProMusic you really should have made a full backup of what you already had before restoring the unknown backup file , so you didn’t have to hold your breath, but it’s good news you got it all back.

LeanneProMusic So when you say "backup file" you mean the ST3 backup file? Those can be freely exchanged between MacBook, iPad and iPhone. You can restore these backups on any type of device.

Hi Peter, it was an ST3 file that I made at the Apple Store before we ever started working on the transfer. The 2 reasons I didn't use it before was the fact that Apple kept saying to me it wouldn't work because of the Mac and iPad being two different languages -- obviously not true in this case, as you have said! The second was that when I first looked at the backup file, it appeared to only contain about 8 items. Because it held 5+ Gigs, I kept trying to get Apple to show me how to open it and look at it before running, which they weren't able to do and were dubious about anyway. When I felt at the end of my rope, I did decide to go ahead and install the file, and as you said it would, it worked brilliantly -- and in an instant!
