peter That's device dependent. Some audio device support a volume control and some don't.
I don’t think so, I think it’s my Mac Studio operating system , HDMI is just a video audio path that’s designed to be all on one cable and has a set standard , how you choose to feed it is the computers operating choice,
Apple had decided we don’t need a master volume in this audio path, which sucks, because if you use a program like ST3 that uses the master volume which by the way is also controlled by you computer keyboard , this then does not work on HDMI unless you create a true master in your software as well like MUSIC AND UTUBE HAVE, ST3 does not have a true master volume of its own unless you engage the EQ and use its volume instead which is not ideal.
The fix to this problem is that apple treat HDMI audio selection the same as all other options like computer speaker volume has the master volume active so you can control it on you keyboard , this should also be the same for HDMI output , so you can use you keyboard to control the computer output , this would then allow ST3 to work the same way.
Basically APPLE HAVE FTUP AGAIN not maintaining LOGIC, they really need logically minded people to do final testing of their software.
Hopefully they will fix this soon just like they fixed the disabling of Bluetooth when using Bluetooth mice and keyboard, now if you want to turn off Bluetooth and you have a Bluetooth mouse you can’t, thanks to the likes of me bitching about it.You know what I’m talking about if you have done it and then could not control the computer unless you had a wired mouse.
It’s so hard to find logically minded computer software writers.
I thought I would point this out for the benefit to others that might be using HDMI audio with ST3 on Mac Studio computers , i havent tested Ipad or Iphone HDMI yet
