Hi Peter, I have just purchased a Mac Studio with a HDMI output to hook up with my large 82 inch 4K TV , which all works fine but I discovered you could say a major flaw in the operating system design which seems to be a problem with ST3 only, it’s not an issue with apple MUSIC or UTUBE, regarding the MASTER VOLUME FADER control.
If I choose HDMI as audio output which then sends my sound to the TV and then from the TV to my speakers MY MASTER VOLUME IS DISABLED AND I HAVE NO MASTER VOLUME OF MY ST3 or THE COMPUTERS MASTER VOLUME, this is a real problem as the hdmi volume is set to maximum and the only master volume I then have is on the TV SET itself.
This creates an audio mixing problem as I have multiple audio sources going to my TV so I am forced to set a volume to suit ST3/computer volume as a standard volume which then throws all my other sources out in volume balance.
I have spoken to APPLE , they are looking in to it, if I use the computer speaker instead the master volume behaves normally as expected , if I use HDMI as an option to send my audio I loose the master volume control, MUSIC and UTUBE seem to have their own master control but ST3 does not as it’s using the actual computers master volume which seems to disable itself from use in HDMI output mode.
This to me seems like lack of consistency of the operating system design , no matter what audio output I choose I should be able to control my audio volume on my keyboard or somewhere handy on the desktop screen , this is not the case right now , I hope apple fix this soon as it’s frustrating having to use a workaround fix to set master volume if using HDMI output.
I wonder if this is just my issue or has anyone got it working correctly on their system.
I use a Samsung 82 inch smart/DUMB TV.
Cheers Damir

That's device dependent. Some audio device support a volume control and some don't.

I don’t think so, I think it’s my Mac Studio operating system , HDMI is just a video audio path that’s designed to be all on one cable and has a set standard , how you choose to feed it is the computers operating choice,
Apple had decided we don’t need a master volume in this audio path, which sucks, because if you use a program like ST3 that uses the master volume which by the way is also controlled by you computer keyboard , this then does not work on HDMI unless you create a true master in your software as well like MUSIC AND UTUBE HAVE, ST3 does not have a true master volume of its own unless you engage the EQ and use its volume instead which is not ideal.
The fix to this problem is that apple treat HDMI audio selection the same as all other options like computer speaker volume has the master volume active so you can control it on you keyboard , this should also be the same for HDMI output , so you can use you keyboard to control the computer output , this would then allow ST3 to work the same way.
Basically APPLE HAVE FTUP AGAIN not maintaining LOGIC, they really need logically minded people to do final testing of their software.
Hopefully they will fix this soon just like they fixed the disabling of Bluetooth when using Bluetooth mice and keyboard, now if you want to turn off Bluetooth and you have a Bluetooth mouse you can’t, thanks to the likes of me bitching about it.You know what I’m talking about if you have done it and then could not control the computer unless you had a wired mouse.
It’s so hard to find logically minded computer software writers.
I thought I would point this out for the benefit to others that might be using HDMI audio with ST3 on Mac Studio computers , i havent tested Ipad or Iphone HDMI yet
Hi Damir, have you tried with loopback?
Chemabazan what is that?
It’s an app that lets you route audio in many different ways. It creates virtual sound devices. I use it to route Stagetraxx to any channel in my DAW, for instance. Definitely worth the price. https://rogueamoeba.com/loopback/

Chemabazan Thanks for sharing this, WOW! Why isn't this shit available in the APPLE operating system , this looks great , i havent tried it yet but at first glance it looks fantastic, its the sort of thing i would expect to be a part of the operating system.
Cmon APPLE get your ship in order and start giving us some real updates.
Does it introduce extra latency?
