Well, it uses Wifi if available. If not, it will create its own ad hoc network which is very unreliable especially when in a room full of people.

Don't every rely on the XR18 network. It is not really better and has no routing functionality for devices connected to it.

Just buy a wifi router and connect all devices to that wifi. If you need internet, get a wifi router with a sim card slot so that it can provide internet access to all connected devices.

peter I don't think that is the case. As Ive stated earlier the connection will work as long as the router or mi fi has an actually internet connection. If you are on a closed network the disconnection will happen every 30 seconds or so. I've had this problem for months and it hasn't been addressed. As I see in the forum it us many people having the same issue. I'm looking at Presonus’s studio one 6.0 for setting up the show. This is just too much a pain in the ass especially if you can’t get cellular connection inside a building.

Bbachorz been using a router for a LAN connection for ages without issue. I have had issues with Bluetooth and the only time I’ve heard about those having issues with a router is when they try and connect via the venues wifi.

Bbachorz You don't need an internet connection to use the network feature. Your disconnects have another reason. Maybe try another router, switch to 5Ghz or make sure all devices run with the same iOS version.

Bbachorz I had the same issue as you, no matter what the disconnection happened every 30seconds, this was fixed when I updated my operating system and ST3 software to the latest version , so the issue was I believe in the operating system as now I tested it and it keeps permanent connection like it should , yes it probably is not as reliable as a good powerful router but for my needs in a small venue of 300 to 400 people it is solid enough , now it is working as expected before it was not working at all, I believe it had a design bug which was fixed.
So just update your software and see how you go before purchasing another tack on device to fix a problem that never should have been there in the first place.
This issue was on two iPads and an iPhone, all three devices now work perfectly after the IOS update.

I had a support request recently where this disconnect seems to happen even though all devices run the latest iOS version. I myself can not reproduce the problem. All my hosting sessions run without disconnects even with a mix of iOS15, 16 and 17 devices.

peter that's a bummer, perhaps it is a particular operating system setting that causes it and by updating the operating system it defaults to a working setting, I am clutching at straws now , but it definitely was a bug and now its not there.

peter when you are trying does your router have access to the internet? I found if I used my home network which has internet capability the issue goes away. The problem is when I’m on my closed setup which does not have internet but is a closed network only allowing communications on a LAN. This provides the connection disconnect issue.
If I use my mifi and wireless connect all iPads to that which has internet capability it works as if I was connected to my home network.

I guess it must be something in the iOS settings. But except allowing Stage Traxx to access the network, I have no idea what else could influence it.

We have two iPads (new)
Both updated to V17.5.1
iPads are 4 feet apart and we keep loosing connection when hosting a session- would a wireless (guitar) transmitter cause this?

Decoste1 it might be the guitar wireless but it’s unreliable hosting via Bluetooth anyway so I’d recommend using a router via its LAN.

Decoste1 my bluetooth connection was the same now i can be on the street with the host in the house witout a problem, you need to find the reson for the this if you simply want to use it witout a router, bluetooth should work but it has a bug that no one has fixed yet, they just use a wokaround.
Perhaps try a fresh install of the operatig system and st3 and see if it goes away as updates just keep mdifyind the system which could corrupt thigs in the bacgrund without you knowing it.
I know that bluetooth was a lot more reliable before so why is it not usable now.

Bluetooth runs on 2.4Ghz. Wifi also runs on 2.4 GHz. Anything in that frequency range can cause disconnects. Especially wireless audio transmitters that often nuke the whole frequency range.

5Ghz wifi with a dedicated router will solve those issues.

peter this disconnection has nothig to do with signals iterference, it is a regular disconnection that happens every 30 seconds , its a bug, once eliminated bluetooth works just fine.

Thats a workaroud, which is a more reliable way to go but it introduces extra equipment tacked on, which is fine but the original problem is not solved.
After updating my software on all devices the bluetooth problem went away now i can reliably use bluetooth, it might not be as reliable as a wifi router but it definitely is rock solid enough for my smaller gigs which was totally uneusable before.
I like to fix problems not work around them if possible.

Bbachorz As i don't use a router, what you are saying is that this regular 30 second disconnection is also happening using a wifi router but thats not connected to the internet, this is very interesting, so its not just bluetooth disconnecting its also the router, i am going to do some more tests on this because when my problem went away is when i updated my software but because i was at home i was also hooked up to the internet, so perhaps i still might have an issue on stage , although my last test was at a gig all night on bluetooth without one disconnection, so things are still a bit fishy, are you on the latest operating software on everything?

I started having the same problem lately. Everything was running perfectly without any router for years (so the problem is not the ad-hoc connection), but now the connection is closed regularly.

I suspect it has to do with iOS 17.

@peter is there a way that we can do some bug tracking?

@peter it appears that the connection is closed after exactly 30 seconds, so definitely a software issue.

The weird thing is that after I get the “Connection closed” message on the slave device and tap “OK”, the song that was playing on the host is still playing on the slave even if I stop it on the host device.

Could this be some power saving issue?
