  • Why are some chords not highlighted?

Stage Traxx will highlight recognized chords. Here is a list of all known chord extensions. Anything not on this list will lead to no chord highlighting:

  • 2, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 13, 7sus4, 7b5, 7#5, 7b9, 7#9, 7b5b9, 7b5#9, 7#5b9, 9#5, 13#11, 13b9, 11b9, aug, aug7, sus, sus4, sus2, sus2sus4, sus7, sus9, -5, 5, +, +7, add9
  • maj, maj7, maj9, maj11, maj13, maj9#11, maj13#11, maj7b5, maj7#5
  • m, min, m2, m4, m6, m7, m9, m11, m13, madd9, m6add9, m7b5, m7#5, dim, dim7,
  • mmaj7, mmaj9

Starting with version 3.7 chords are recognized based on the following rule set:

  • Starts with A-H followed by an optional #, b, ♯ or ♭
  • Followed by an optional chord type: add, sus, m, min, maj, aug, dim, -, +, minmaj
  • Followed by an optional extension 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 11 and 13 that can optionally be prepended with #, b, ♯ or ♭
  • Followed by another optional extension 5, 9, 11, 13 that can optionally be prepended with #, b, ♯ or ♭
  • Followed by an optional bass note after a / that can be A-H with an optional #, b, ♯ or ♭

Granted, this will allow some unusual chord notations but it will give you more freedom in writing down chords.

    Hi Peter.
In a previous thread I read you were going to incorporate chords being recognized by the line beginning with a '.
Is this still an option? It would be handy for people (like myself) who use certain notation or descriptions which are not specific chords, but would like these to be displayed/recognized as chord notation.

I can't seem to get the notation recognized as chords (and therefore highlighted) by doing this. Can you think of anything I might be missing?

I guess you are not using the correct ` character (not the ' you posted above!!!). Please post the chord line you are trying to write.

      I have version 3.7

peter ok. I am using the 'English (Australia) keyboard on an Ipad Air2. I can't seem to find the character which you are referring to. Might there be a substitute on the keyboard I'm using?
The chord line I am trying to write is: A prog (this is my own description which means an A progression)

Did you see the small video I have in the manual page I linked above? That shows how to type that character on the on screen keyboard.

peter Yes I did, but didn't quite understand the method...
I have tried again now with success.
Thankyou very much for your support.
And also, thankyou for a fantastic App!

Yes it is a bit complicated to type on the software keyboard but this is the character that OnSong uses for this purpose and I don't think anyone would use it in their lyrics by accident. So there is no chance of unintended wrong renderings.

On a hardware keyboard it is rather easy to type.

peter Sorry to bother you again...
In some instances it doesn't work.
Can you think of any reason why this might be?... Something in the formatting of my line perhaps?

Examples please. What instance does not work? Without knowing what you typed in I can not give any answers.

            peter
I am currently part way through formatting lyrics to a song...
The following line isn't being highlighted:

             `Fm prog

If I had the whole world, I would give it away,

Well that's easy to spot. Your line does not start with ` but with lots of blanks.
