Hi Peter, ICloud Sync feedback, I have not managed to get two devices perfectly in sync with all files working, yesterday I tried again starting fresh on IPhone with full backup restored Old ICloud file deleted , all files uploaded to iCloud again , this seemed perfect, I then cleaned my iPad st3 music folder synced up to iCloud hoping to get my iPhone data , the iPad is in process of slowly transferring hopefully all 2648 files as it’s still doing it , I go to my iPhone to discover I have zero files in it now , and sync appears to be just sitting there doing nothing.
I am totally confused and am waiting to see what my iPad will produce at end of sync.
I have done nothing unusual like hitting sync , I just enabled sync buttons and chosen the appropriate choices on both devices.
I believe things are not working well, as I don’t understand the technicalities I will describe my needs and perhaps help to change your plan of attack to get some reliability in to iCloud sync.
What I expect is, when I go to settings I should be able to turn iCloud sync on and off, this should not automatically erase or change anything in my st3 folder or the iCloud folder it shoul simply PAUSE iCloud sync , if you turn the sync off in a middle of a file sync then it should complete this sync and turn off, if you turn on iCloud sync then it should compare iCloud folder and ST3 folder and update all new files in iCloud , in the settings of iCloud sync there should always be a total file count of iCloud content and a file count of ST3 folder of the device you are on so you can easily see if the two match, if they match the sync button should be grey and labeled IN SYNC, if the two are out of sync this button should be grey and labeled SYNCING , if the two folders are out of sync and no syncing is occurring then this button should be blue labeled SYNC, this way it all makes sense, you always know what everything is doing and what state you are in all the buttons mean something and do something useful the final additional button I would have is a CLEAR ICLOUD, This clears the iCloud folder just like you would when you go through the complicated delete process now.
It’s all there in iCloud sync settings and makes sense and gives you feedback to what is going on.
At the moment everything is a guessing game and we don’t know what is going on but it’s not giving us the end result, my issue is also I am turning my devices on and off in my travels so I can’t afford hours of waiting to complete full syncs , the system has to work no matter what is thrown at it, and it need order and clarity, I don’t understand the technicality behind it or it’s ability to create this request but that’s what I expect to be happy with sync.
As I write this my iPad needs to transfer 1700 more files and I still don’t know what I will end up at the end , my iPhone was perfect but now is blank so I will have to try and figure out how to get 2648 back again without full restore,
But I will persevere slowly.
Good luck with it Peter I am confident you will hit the bulls eye in time.
Solute! Damir
