Backups
After you enter the name for the backup, a progress indicater shows you the progress of creating the file and once this is done, the file browser will open and ask you to select a location for the file. Did you not see that when creating the backup?
Matt07ie Hi Matt, simply put ST3 folder is the place everything that ST3 uses to perform , when you make a full backup i would strongly suggest you do not place your backup file in that folder, but create another seperate folder called ST3 BACKUPS, then save your full backups in there .
So basically you end up with two folders on your ipad one is the main normal ST3 folder and the other has your backups, the reason for this is if you uninstall your ST3 you can loose all your data and no means to recover it as the backups were within the ST3 main folder, thats why the Icloud is also a good option, but i dont use it as the backup file size just hogs up all my iclod space, and i also like to have my own folder with my full backup seperate so i can just easily transfer it to other devices using airdrop, this seems to work nicely for me as i always know where my full and data backups are and i feel safe that all my devices have this folder available to use if needed to get back my precious full backups.
I hope i have given you some usefull information, cheers Damir
Damir Thanks very much Damir, yes I really appreciate all the help I can get here with regards to St3
I have put so many hours into perfecting my songs keys chords etc as I'm sure you have, and the last thing I want is to lose it all,
But just to recap, I did create my fill backup gave it a name and I do see it in the window on my ipad ,
So what your saying now for me to do is just create a new folder in
On my ipad window give it a name all my St3 back ups and drag and drop the folders I create in there?
I was just thinking if I were to say put another few hours editing within my St3 songs, could I not delete a previous full backed up folder and replace with the new one I just created, just not to be clogging up my ipad,
I do understand when you say not to drop a file into my icloud, you only get 15GB free here, thanks so much for your time and advice..
OK, so once the window opens, just select a location where you want it to be stored. It works best if you select a location on your iPad, like for example the Stage Traxx 3 folder. You can then find the file in that location with the Files app and move it into the Cloud or Airdrop it to another device.
Matt07ie you got it perfectly, I name my backup files like this ST3 Full Backup 06/11/2022 and ST3 Data Backup 06/11/22, and you are correct I delete all previous backup files on my iPad to save space , I always use my iPad as the master device as it’s the one I also use on stage, the iPad is great to edit on once you get nice supporting software like twisted wave , but for actual full on audio editing I use Logic Pro on iMac then I export direct to iPad once it’s all up to date I send the backup ST3 backups folder to all my other devices and replace that same name folder on them to then be able to update my iPhone and iMac, this saves time and all my other devices become backup devices as well plus the normal backup hard drive on iMac that is always backing up my iMac. So I feel very safe when going out on a gig if anything is to happen I have a backup system in plan, this was my no 1 rule when I was sound engineering in Tv land on gigs like Beijing olympics , Sydney Olympics etc.
Good luck ST3ing!
Damir
Damir sorry Damir it's only now I'm getting back to you, first of all to say thanks a million for your help and advice, greatly appreciated,
to be honest I'm uploading more songs to ST3 and constantly editing, tonight I decided to do a full backup, created a name, then create backup now and at the top righthand corner of my ipad pressed save and nothing happened,
went through the process again and then I see at the bottom of the screen
2 items syncing to iCloud, took the best part of an hour, then when that finished, still no sight of the full back up folder with name I created,
no idea what was going on for the hour when it said syncing 2 items,
Oh then it came up your storage is full, buy more, which I did 50gb 99 cent monthly, and still I can't see my full back up,
I have a pain in my head now from it all
well I did check my songs and all is working at least, but I would like to create a fully functioning backup of exactly where I'm at now, oh god will I ever get around this learning curve
Matt07ie well I did check my songs and all is working at least, but I would like to create a fully functioning backup of exactly where I'm at now, oh god will I ever get around this learning curve
Yes it is a painful learning process but once you get it it will be fine.Just create a folder on your device call it ST3 Backups and save your Backups there first, this will be a lot faster then doing it to cloud based services.
Once you have this folder with the latest backup delete all other backups on your device to save space and then you can airdrop this folder to your other devices to update them and you can also store a version on your cloud based services to be able to have access from anywhere, but first create the full backup in your newly created ST3 backup folder as it’s the safest/fastest way to go.
Good luck!
I assume you have the latest software and reasonably new device that is running the latest operating system.
Cheers Damir
Damir I have the latest software, I'm just looking at my ipad now and I did find the backup folder I created last night
Not in the screen where it says (On My ipad)
I opened ( ICloud Drive )
and in here I have a folder of songs I recently purchased, and beside the
I see a blue folder underneath it says
Downloads, I clicked on It and in here I find the full backup I created last night,
I'm puzzled as to how come the first backup I created ended up in (On My Ipad) screen, and this backup ends up in on ( ICloud Drive) in downloads folder,
I'm sorry if I'm Litteraly boring you and wasting your time here, I just want to try paint a picture of my ipad Gen 9 256Gb of storage, so plenty room for songs,
and speaking of storage
When I created backup last night
and as I was saying gave it a name and see save top corner and it just took off syncing for the full hour, then to get a message your icloud drive is full buy more storage, which I did and still today I'm getting that message, even though I now have 50GB and I see I have only used 4GB, do I need to contact Apple support and if so how,
yeah it sure is nerve wrecking,
having to think twice before I press an icon, I even pressed last backup I made at Christmas just to see what would happen and soon as I did it opened up my stage traxx and a grey box in the middle and I panicked and just powered off the ipad omg!
so finally your telling me to create another folder where? Into which window on my ipad or icloud drive?
also once again, where am I going wrong when Im creating a full back up giving it a name, I have got this far understanding exactly what I'm doing
but then it gets confusing,
Yes I know you may laugh having to take me by the hsnd, I could scream, well I keep that for the stage lol , but seriously I thank you for spending your valuable time explaining this puzzle

It looks to me if you have your backups in the ICloud folder in DOWNLOADS, then this folder is also present on your iPad itself, so your backups are also on your iPad in the DOWNLOADS folder , as I said before the simplest thing to do is create a folder on your iPad so it resides next to your ST3 folder call IT ST3 Backups, this will then be easy to find and place your latest backup in there this will also appear on your iCloud so you can easily get to it, and get rid of all your other backups to save space and reduce confusion.
Damir Hi Peter, just a thought regarding the backup system, as you can see it is not as easy as it possibly could be as some new comers not familiar with the operating systems are struggling, why don’t you have two folders dedicated to ST3 so when newcomers make a backup it is stored in an already created folder for them next to ST3 folder called ST3 Backups, this then to be easily accessible from ST3 settings so there is no confusion to where are these backups going and it protects the user of never loosing their backups if the software is uninstalled and reinstalled.
Just a thought.
Cheers Damir
iOS doesn't work that way. An app is not allowed to create any folders outside of the app folder on your iPad. And storing the backup within the Stage Traxx folder was even more confusing to most users.
Damir thanks Damir, I will follow exactly as you direct me do,
I was totally taken up with my ketron Audya 5 all day yesterday and today, I did have an hour to spare and yes my ST3 still works without a glitch, I'll be opening up the ipad in a few minutes and il will add new folder into my ipad
Next to my Stage traxx 3 and call Stage Traxx 3 backups,
Then when as I told you I go to my settings on stage traxx 3
Create full back up, and once I press ok, I'm not getting a Window asking me where I want to save my backups
I'm definately not doing some right
Matt07ie Create full back up, and once I press ok, I'm not getting a Window asking me where I want to save my backups

You have to wait till the backup is completed then it gives you a window to where you want to place the backup.Choose the newly created ST3 Backup folder and hit save.
Delete all your other backups on your device and empty the rubbish bin to regain hard drive space.
Damir that's the problem it's not giving me the window where to save the backup, but look I'll follow all you told me after tomorrow nights gig and yes firstly I will create a new folder in On My Ipad window next to the ST3 folder and call it ST3 full Backups, and then do another full backup and carefully watch as I go step by step and hopefully I will see this window you speak of asking me where to save the backup, I told you the Backup I did synced to fecking iCloud and I had to buy more space, thanks so much for your patience with me, but I suppose when your helping out me and my learning curve, I presume I'm not the only one here not grasping the whole procedure right away...
Try to create a database backup. Does the location selector popup when you create that backup?
Matt07ie I’m sure you’re not the only one , the system is mainly designed for people that already know the system , Apple seems to forget that normal people aren’t mind readers and need things to be very obvious, there are lots of examples of very poor programming so we just have to go along with what we get eventually they will get there, hopefully in my lifetime.
Good luck!
That's very true indeed, but I will eventually get to understand and master the software and Apple,
St3 is absolutely outstanding software, I honestly don't think there is anything out there to beat it, it's been very good to me so far, only just in relation to doing a full backup, well right now I have created the new folder in the window on my Ipad right next to the St3 folder, in fact they are the only 2 folders in there now cause I moved the fist backup I made into the new folder,
the backup I made the other night in the icloud still, anyway let's get tonight's gig over with, thanks Damir
Matt07ie ireland, I say it, because it is, and I'm so happy to report back to you all procedures you advised, and taking my time I have finally got to grips with the backing up my St3 and I have deleted the previous backup,, it's, all mainlys to you and also Lishy who came in at the start to help and of course not to forget Peter, but now that I have the know how and see how it easy it is I feel a little stupid,
But I'm sure it won't all stop here lol, I see you have mentioned Izotope Rx10, what an unbelievable piece of software
even the ability to create your own backing tracks, using music rebalanced feature, still leaving slight nuances but very workable, now theres another amazing software about to take flight,
I can't think of the name, but I'm told its absolutely magic at what it can do, might just solve the Nuances and bleed, but as for Peters St3 it's like a drug once you start you cant stop..
