Audio routing question

peter the Ui24 can yes but I’ll probably need around 5 meters of usb cable from my iPad to my mixer which might not be optimal.
I’m also not using stereo tracks and doubt I will. I’m just downloading tracks from karaoke version which are mono so I think I’ll be ok doing it this way.

HI Lishy,

I saw this post and thought I would ask you a question. I've been thinking about getting a ui24r, but first want to make sure it is compatible with stage traxx. It looks like you are saying it is, but can you confirm that Stage Traxx3 does recognize the ui24r's inputs? I am hoping to use the multitrack feature (sending multiple tracks to different inputs of the ui24r).

If you tried it did you have any issues ever? I've dealt with DAW's not finding an interface every single time and it is something I want to avoid. I don't know if StageTraxx has a list of non compatible units or not.

Since I'm already asking...I'm curious have you ever had any issues with the ui24r specifically. It gets pretty solid reviews, but no one talks about how it holds up over time or compatibility in situations like this.

Damir thanks for all the info, much appreciated. I don’t use a daw and have been downloading ready made backing tracks.
So they are already mono.
I didn’t think it was possible to use the speed up/down when using multitracks though?

Sorry Lishy I misunderstood your operational need I thought you wanted a simple method of operation to get a signal to audience and a click track on stage.
The tempo change is not operational on multitrack and that’s a big reason I use stereo tracks as it’s more important to me to have that capability as it’s one thing a live band can do and most audio players can’t, the multitrack is great to have for other reasons which in my case is not worth using as it complicates things greatly for not much reward to the audience in the end.
So I keep things as simple as possible but as flexible as possible on stage cause that’s what it’s all about, the audience.

If the files you download are mono and make you use multitrack you need to use pan on the multitrack to create your stereo image like guitar left, guitar right and so on, its flexible and will sound great but it’s time consuming.
Good luck with it I’m sure ST3 will handle whatever you throw at it.

The tracks I download from karaoke version are usually stereo. But if it works for you, then you are set.

You are right, if you need to change the tempo you can not use multitracks. Tempo and pitch changes are only possible with stereo tracks.

peter I thought they were mono as it usually (I have seen it does on some tracks though) doesn’t state ‘rhythm guitar left’ and ‘rhythm guitar right’ for example?
If that isn’t the case then I’m going to need an interface for the stereo tracks and separate click track aren’t I?

Lishy If you need tempo changes, you need to stick to stereo tracks and then you don't need an audio interface.

Damir ah the penny has just dropped! I didn’t know you could download stereo tracks when creating a song from local and cloud files and therefore use tempo and pitch changes! All your other messages make total sense now!! Thanks!

mporo Hi Mporo, to be honest I’ve not tried sending multitracks via usb to see if it does but I also don’t doubt that it wouldn’t.
I’ve only ever sent stereo tracks (tracks down the left and click down the right via a headphone Jack to 2 xlr cable.

I’m terms of reliability, I’ve never had an issue with it (that was but user error that is). If you do ever go on the ui24 forum on Facebook you will find those that have had issues with short sound dropouts on occasions.
There will also be people saying you need to get a UPS. Personally I think this applies more to those in the US as I’ve never once had an issue and I’m in the UK.
If you do get one I would definitely get a 5g router to connect to it as the internal one isn’t that great.

I use this exact setup. You're asking for headaches using the ui24's built in interface. It just crashes. So I would recommend using a Komplete audio 6 ( or another 4 output+ audio interface) and a powered usb hub. Then setup st3 to : route your stereo out to mains 1 and 2 , and your click and cue to 3 and 4 aux. Now run into any of your consecutive hardware neutrik, 4 separate balanced cables. Ie inputs 8-11. Then mute the click and cues in mains on ui24, adjust to taste in each aux. It's rock solid. You can get the interface for 40-75 bucks used. Then you run your ipad with a camera/power connection kit (11 bucks on amazon) to a powered hub (essential so it routes and powers the komplete 6) and run the komplete on the main data i/o of the usb hub. I also recommend using a velcro cable tie to make sure there is strain release at the ipad connection. Let me know if you've figured out how to midi control the ui24 via st3 as that's what I'm seeking to do next...

derums13 I’m laughing reading your post b/c I just got my UI24 connected to StageTrax and patched correctly to run multi track backing tracks just to hear that it’s unreliable to send that much audio through just usb.

Can you go into detail again about your setup? I have an idea as to what you are doing but there are some gaps. Especially at the IPad end.
