Best Way to create Backups ?

NeilC That file ST3 Sun 3 April 2022.st3 is a backup file! Exactly what you want to send over to your iPhone. That is what is made when you create a backup. The only thing wrong with it is that you made it on 3 April, so it doesn't contain the changes you made since 3rd April. Delete it and make a new backup.

NeilC forget icloud and dropbox itunes, music, throw them out the window and just concentrate on things that work reliably and simply, well as simply as possible till this date.
Seems like developers are struggling to keep up with customers needs.
They can not seem to create something simple and reliable the two words are not in their vocabulary.

NeilC ST3 folder should only have ST3 files if you have contaminated it with unknown files this is probably causing an issue, move all those files that don’t belong to the appropriate place, then follow the full backup procedure and then transfer this file to your other devices to update them.
Read the instructions slowly, understand them, then step by step you will get there once you’ve done it it will all come clear and faster.
But don’t contaminate your ST3 folder because making full backups might not work.

Damir Good Morning Damir, thank you for advice yes so it’s ok to delete the MPEG or JPEG images that are in the ST3 Folder ?
It won’t remove files etc ?

All very good advice so far. I really don't have much to add. Except that maybe I should do a backup and restore video to explain it hands on how to do it.

I concur, stay away from Dropbox. Their Files integration is absolutely horrible. If you really want to stick with Dropbox, use their app to upload / download files. You can use the Share dialogue to send files to Dropbox or Share files in the Dropbox app with Stage Traxx.

Regarding pictures: They will not interfere with ST3 but are absolutely useless. Just delete them (after creating a backup).

The file with the ST3 icon from your last screenshot, that's the backup file. And this is the only file you need to store safely or transfer to another device.

iCloud is certainly a viable option. The 50GB plan for 1$ per month would allow you to store 5 full backups of yours. That should be more than enough. The main downside is that you will need to transfer quite a bit of data to the internet and that might take lots of time.

The other option is to store it on your computer and some usb drives. Did you know, that you can connect USB sticks directly to your iPad and copy files to/from the sticks with the Files app? Not every stick works but this could be the cheapest option. Buy a couple of 64GB or 128GB sticks and that's about it.

peter if i didnt have any other devices to use as backups, i definitely would use USB stick direct to ipad or iphone, Its simple, cheap, portable, transferable, no monthly payments.
You just need an adapter cable to be able to plug in to device, but its well worth it.
Even if you create backing tracks on a PC save to usb sctick and easily load in to ST3 folder on device, and bypass all the technological crap that has not been designed to be simple and reliable.

Damir Hey Hi Damir, I think personally you guys are spot on just use usb stick to transfer files directly into iPad that would avoid all apple etc
Headaches stress time.

NeilC look on line for USB adapter lead for your device there’s a s..t load out there I have one but I’m not home to take a photo, I purchased in officeworks our local store.

NeilC it all depends on what iPad you have. The newest iPads have USB-C ports with which you can connect a compatible USB-C based external drive directly without a special cable.

For older iPads with a lightning connector, you'd probably need a "lightning to (female) usb type A adapter" of some sort with which would convert your port into a USB port for regular USB sticks. (Damir's post came up after writing this. Yes the one in his photo.)

Though I’m using that as a Mixer for my Behringer XR12 digital mixer.

My new iPad is the new iPad Air generation 4 2020
I will do a research what cable is needed.

NeilC your old iPad has a lightning connector, and the new one has a USB-C connector. For the newer iPad, you could buy an external drive that connects directly to the port. The only catch, and there's always a catch, is that most PCs don't have USB-C ports, so you might need a USB-A to USB-C cable to connect the drive to the PC. But the charger cable that came with the 2020 iPad Air should be exactly that.

Then I connect the USB port to the pc hub I run my webcam from it. When I live streamed on sessions.

One caveat: iOS is very picky regarding USB Sticks. Most of my sticks draw too much power and need an active USB hub to work. Therefore I would recommend buying a MFI certified USB stick with a lightning connector like the SanDisk iXpand series. They are guaranteed to work on iOS. Any you could use an adapter cable to connect it to your iPad Air.

I just read that the current USB3 Camera Connection Kit also has an additional lightning port for charging and that also supplies power to the USB port so that basically every USB stick will work while charging. I still have the old USB2 adapter without charging port, so my problems might be solved with the new version.

peter yes there are a number of options out there, I just bought the cheapest one that worked with my usb stick, to transfer files then I disconnect it as I don’t need it that often and if I loose it it’s not a big deal.
Airdrop is my first option, it seems to do the job very quickly and mostly reliable once you get to know all its quirks.
But it’s not so good if you deal with PC, so another botchup by the big boys, it’s like a war between two super powers , democracy verses hipocracy. Cmon Ukraine 🇺🇦
