Midi connection via bluetooth and commands

Hi I am looking for some help as to how to send midi to my laptop to control my stage light set up.

I am using Stage traxx version 2.10.6 on my ipad

I have a Yamaha md-bt01 Bluetooth transmitter/receiver (Which stage Traxx connects to fine) and have plugged it in to 2 different midi compatible usb sound cards ( Alesis io2 and Presonus Studio 26c)

I am using Freestyle x2 software to control my dmx lights and am getting signal from my keyboard and can create/learn triggers for note on/off but cannot seem to get a trigger from stage Traxx.

I have tried manually putting in the midi note values that I have put in the song lyrics ie [midi@00:01.00: N62@1] and
It still wont trigger.

There are 2 things I was wondering first does Stage traxx v2 allow midi transfer? and as the trigger value of velocity for Freestyler is set to 40 do I need to put a midi velocity command in stage traxx to increase the trigger value?

I am ultimately trying to trigger pre set sequences within Freestyler by creating note on/off messages and would appreciate any help as to what commands I need and how to feed get the information to Freestyler.

I may also need to find a way of testing the ipads midi connection/ transfer to the Yamaha md-bt01.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Rcomfy my first thing i would do is upgrade the software to the latest version as a lot more intricate things have been updated in latest versions then see if you cant get things working to what it might be, but I am sure Peter will guide you to get it working if possible.

Your midi command tag looks fine and version 2 does send MIDI commands. If you omit the velocity in a Note command, Stage Traxx will send velocity 127. So it should trigger.

You could install a midi monitor on your laptop to make sure that it does receive MIDI commands from Stage Traxx.

Hi I am using an ipad 2 for stage traxx so cant upgrade to v3 but its nice to know that v2 will still hopefully work. I will install midi monitor on my pc and let you know how I get on shortly. Thanks for the help so far.

Hi I have just installed Midi-ox and set up the input and output settings with the alesis io2 usb sound card with the Yamaha md-bt01 Bluetooth plugged into it when I run the input monitor I get nothing.

But I did notice that when I press play on the track that I have put the midi code in the lyrics the red light on the Yamaha md-bt01 briefly flashes green which indicates to me that the midi is being sent to the Yamaha md-bt01 from the ipad but not to the pc via the alesis io2. is there anything I can do in midi-ox to further set up the io2 perhaps?

I don't know about midi-ox. It is hard to see on your picture, but have you plugged the device correctly into the ports?

You could also install a midi monitor on iOS and see if the other direction (computer to iPad) is working.

Another point: I don't know if Freestyler midi messages start with 0 or 1. Channels in Stage Traxx always start with 1. So your channel 1 in Freestyler could be channel 2 in Stage Traxx.

I am making some head way! I manged to trigger Freestyler once (Short cut I chose "blackout" ) and then it wouldnt do it again so after swapping leads and usb ports which didn't make any difference I tried restarting Freestyler and each time I do that it works but only once! I can only conclude from that once display box at the bottom has the midi note message in it it wont allow a retrigger and the only way I can see at the moment to delete the data is to restart the program. so at least all the hardware is working and it just seem to be a software issue in Freestyler.

Hi guys

Which midi monitor program would you suggest for a pc?

I’m doing something similar to our friend here with showmagic, which has a midi monitor, but I’d like a standalone option just to see what info is flying about. I’m using rtp midi to receive send midi to pc.

Sorry, I'm not a PC guy. No idea what to use on a PC. On the Mac MIDI Monitor is quite nice and open source: https://www.snoize.com/midimonitor/
