Hi all. Very new to this app.
What is the best midi interface to run my effects pedals from an apple iPad Air. 2.
I’m also assuming you to have the full app to utilise it’s midi functions.
Thanks
MIDI interface
No, you don't need the full version. MIDI is fully functional in the free version.
Ideally you want to use a wireless midi interface. I am using the CME Widi Master myself and it works just fine: https://www.cme-pro.com/widi-master/
peter thanks Peter….I’ll look into them. However I don’t mind wires.
I’ve just had another look through the manual, and notice the multichannel options. Wow.
So this app will give you the opportunity (with presumably a multi channel out interface) to send a stereo track and a click track to my mixer? From my iPad?
I’m finding it hard to get my head round this. This app seems to good to be true.
Wish I’d discovered this before. We use a MacBook as well to facilitate acts that have tracks with clicks.
It's not so much about wires but more about keeping your lightning port free for charging or maybe connecting an audio interface. If you want to use an audio interface you could choose one with midi ports. New iPad Pros don't even have a headphone output so you need the usb-c port to connect to the PA.
peter good point.
Are there any tutorials on what gear I’d need to buy, and connecting iPad to interface to mixing desk etc
If you have a headphone output, start with a simple cable to your mixer. Then you can scale from there. Next step might be adding a DI box, then maybe an audio interface or direct usb connection to a digital mixer.
But most important: don't overdo it. On a gig you want everything to be as simple as possible to reduce problems.
peter I agree. I always try to keep it simple and easy to set up.
On a solo gig with tracks, it’s just iPad to desk. Currently using a rival app(unrealBook)
I use helix for my guitar and a boss harmoniser..trouble starts when I’m dancing from left to right foot on the chorus. Change guitar patch and turn on the harmoniser at the same time.
What a joy it would be if stagetraxx changed my harmoniser for me. I was thinking of buying a tc helicon, just for that luxury.
On my residency, keys an drums. We often have to accompany visiting artistes who use a stereo track and click. We use a MacBook running ableton live. So again it would be great if ST3 took over.
Sorry to rabbit on, but I want to be sure it’s all possible before I buy and outboard stuff.
Im going to buy your ST3 anyway, as it is an awsome app.
Great work Peter
Stikmaster Ive been using tc helicon electric for years now and still cant find anything better, its great quality, does my backing harmony perfectly, has quitar efx it even pitch corrects your vocals nicely without hearing it, perfectly designed to run an ipad through it as well and uses the backing track to keep the harmonizer working correctly if you stop playing the guitar, the guitar chord structure is used to perfectly change your harmonies when changing chord structure slightly, its amazing, highly recomend it, in combination with the powerful player like ST3 it makes it a simple pleasure to use, i just cant wait when looping gets introduced on ST3, tc helicon also has looping capability but its not for me and the way i expect looping to benefit my performace its to complicated to achieve very limited loops.
Backing track looping is the next big thing that no one has sucessfully introduced yet i believe if ST3 can get this implemented correctly it will blow everyones software away, it has already by doing things smartly. You wont regret buying a tc helicon to work with ST3 on stage if you are a guitar player/singer and want to keep your hair on your head im 62 and still not bold .
Thanks to ST3.
Damir thanks Damir…. I use a line 6 variaxe ….I love the versatility. So the helicon would be a very expensive way of automising my harmoniser. That’s why I’ve been reluctant to dive in for one. I’ve just been looking at some YouTube videos on iPad to audio/midi interface connection, and it doesn’t seem to be to difficult. A lightning to USB adapter seem to be the easiest. And I’m sure I already have one. Then I can (I think) control my midi FX from ST3.
Stikmaster I just checked out the line 6 looks good il have to check it out properly it might serve me as well.
Damir it is very versatile….I have a strat and Les Paul, but the variaxe is my stage guitar.
Playing nicely with a 12 string acoustic. Then hit the helix and your into the solo with a screaming Les Paul. Easy and effective.
iPad camera connection kit will allow you to charge your iPad as well as access the USB port. (just look for the one with the lightning and usb on it). For iPad Pro I simply use a usb C hub to charge it as well as have multiple USB connections etc etc. works like a charm

Stikmaster sounds great how much is it, where can i get one, and are there different versions of the guitar, does it run on batteries, has it got the samples stored within, and finaly does it have midi out to be able to play in to a daw for recording.
Sorry for all the questions i have an old roland midi quitar with midi capability but its to awkward to use live and it has delay issues and a tack on rack unit it plugs in so its a pain to lug around with little gain.
This sounds like a great simple versatile way of getting just the sound you want.
Its amazing how you can be looking for something for ages and not find it thinking its not invented yet its out there waiting to be discovered, ST3 suffers from this as i am sure there are plenty of users looking for it but have not found it as the apple store is full of crappy software , unless you know the name to the letter of the software you wont find it, i have pointed this out to Peter, you can type in search Stage and you still dont get stage traxx as an option you get other crappier software yet a great well developed worty app like ST3 does not appear unless you hit splace after you type Stage, it should pop up as soon as you type Stag , no wonder people cant find the software or harware thats out there they really might want.
It sounds like a combination of your guitar and my effect unit would give us everything.
At the moment i have to swap from electric guitar to accoustc and its a pain cause it limits the set list you cant randomly just jump to any song you have to consider what instrument is in your hands, this would eliminate it.
Anyway im glad there are people out there willing to share their knowledge like youself.
Thank you Cheers Damir.
Damir sorry for the late response Damir.
My guitar is a line 6 James Tyler variaxe. It’s run on batteries, but I also have a line 6 pedalboard. You connect the guitar to it via a cat 5 cable. The guitar has 28 different modelling guitars built in. The are selected by turning two knobs along with the selector switch.
Once programmed, when you hit a patch on the pedal, it will switch the guitar to the model (Martin…Les Paul…strat…telecaster etc)you selected during programming. No midi though. As for price, just check it out on Google.
Hope this helps
Doug
Stikmaster Thanks Doug, wow ! theres a whole new guitar system i didnt know existed, and it looks great, i have found some second hand options here in Australia so im going to do a bit of research before i buy, id like to get one in my hands before commiting , what i like the most is having accoustic/Electric instant swap between the two, this then runing through my helicon effects would really be simple and very powerfull to create most popular guitar requirements.
Thanks again Damir
peter Have you ever had your CME Widi Master glitch during a gig? Mine stopped working while I was on a break - I wouldn’t mind if I’d known because I could have fixed it in the break but I found out during the first song after the break!
Bluetooth LE devices might get disconnected when the app is terminated by iOS. So if iOS decided to quit the app while you where on break you need to connect it again in Settings. If you don't change to other apps during your break, Stage Traxx should keep running and all devices should stay connected. Well except if you turn off the MIDI device the dongle has been connected to.
peter All I did was put some break music on and walk away for 15 minutes, I didn’t touch the iPad or the piano or close any app other than that. Strange, I may give it another try… it could be SampleTank that has the problem as I can never connect directly to it. I have recently discovered the MidiMttr app which seems to facilitate a solid connection… previously I would open GarageBand just to connect the Widi Master to the iPad’s Bluetooth then open SampleTank and it would work (most of the time).
Thanks.
