Cant import Lyrics from Apple MUSIC on Ipad

Hi Peter, i have just dicovered the imbeded MP3 lyrics in MUSIC do not transfer in to ST3 automatically like they did before.
And Apple have just confirmed when you open the lyrics in MUSIC you cant even select and copy the lyrics either, making it absolutely useless and unworkable.
I hope this is just a temporary problem.

There's nothing I can do about this. If Apple does not export the lyrics tag, you need to enter them manually.

Apart from that, it is not possible to import music from the Apple Music subscription anyway as all tracks are copy protected.

peter The import from music use to import both audio and text without a problem my backing tracks are made by me and stored in MUSIC because i had no other option, since then a number of Apple so called upgrades have caused this not to work, i have and will contact apple support and try to explain to them that not all MUSIC files are protected that people also have their own material they expect the software to operate apropriately with other software otherwise whats the point of MUSIC, i am so close to getting rid of it completely and just use ST3 for everything as it does so much more then MUSIC.If only i could open the text in Ipad MUSIC and copy and paste but cant even do that i have to do it on the IMac which in not allways practical so i am beginning to hate apple more and more if it wasnt for ST3 i would leave them completely as i am fed up with so called upgrades that are actual downgrades.I am spending more time sorting out unnecessary issues then making music thanks to Apple.
Will keep you posted on apples response.

I strongly recommend not using Apple Music to import files because these files get transcoded during the import which always leads to a loss in quality. Just drop your files into an iCloud folder and import from there. No loss in quality and lyrics will be imported.

peter Brilliant thanks for that advice Peter im more than happy to leave MUSIC as it tottaly sucks now its more limited now and it does not perform the same on all devices and that really Sh**s me of.

Hi guys, am now worried after this post as I am a new iMac owner and about to start using ST3 (rather than ST2) and have always used iTunes (now Apple Music) to setup my backing tracks and add lyrics to them (with time stamps). However, I've also noticed lyrics don't seem to be transferring either.
Q: I have around 400 Word files with time-stamped lyrics (ChordPro) done over many years. I simply create a track and then import it into Apple Music before right-clicking and selecting GetInfo/Lyrics then copying/pasting from the Word file. Then sync with iPad and all is good. Not any more though, it seems the lyrics aren't going over.
My issue therefore is how to get lyrics embedded within an mp3 file in a way that ST3 is happy with if I then follow Peter's advice and copy the mp3 file from Dropbox/iCloud straight to iPad?
Is there an editor on iOS that can easily be used to paste the text from my Word files and somehow embed or include it with the mp3 file?
I prefer to do it that way than manually doing it using the iPad.

Just tested the Apple Music route again and it works fine with Stage Traxx 2 but not 3. Also, Apple Music on my iPad has the lyrics and they can be displayed so what's the big difference with the interface between Apple Music and ST3?

The difference between 2 and 3 is that version 2 plays the files directly from the Apple Music library. Version 3 instead imports the files from the library into Stage Traxx and after this step you no longer need Apple Music. My #1 support topic for version 2 has always been that Stage Traxx can no longer access songs in the library. Therefore I decided to import the files instead of relying on the shaky connection to the library.

It seems that Apple Music no longer embeds the lyrics in the files but stores it only in their database. That's why it works in version 2 and not in version 3.

You can import word files directly in the Stage Traxx lyrics editor. Or you can use any tag editor to edit lyrics in the mp3 file. I recommend Mp3Tag for Windows and Metadatics for Mac.

Now that I think about this. Maybe I could try to access the Apple Music library directly to get hold of lyrics if there are no lyrics embedded in the file. I will try this out and keep you updated.

peter Thanks Peter. I want to keep using Word to retain/keep lyrics as it's easy to use and allows changes/updates, etc... I'll investigate Metadatics for copying/pasting into the mp3 tag and see if I can get that working.

Managed to place my mp3 files into an iCloud folder and can then load into ST3 from iPad successfully - but they don't have lyrics yet. However, I've done it for one file which I "converted to mp3" from within Apple Music - and then copied it to the iCloud folder from where I could get and play it in ST3 and lyrics are there! But, now got to convert circa 500 songs in Apple Music to mp3. Means I'll have two almost exact versions of the same song file in AM and need to copy one to my iCloud folder. Don't fancy doing it 500 times

No need to convert them to mp3. Just drag and drop them from the Music app to iCloud. If you have a playlist with all your songs, that's just a "select all" and then drag and drop. Check with Metadatics if the lyrics tag has been filled before importing into Stage Traxx. If yes, and Stage Traxx still does not show lyrics, please send me that file so that I can debug this.

Metadatics has confirmed lyrics all there and can add/amend using it as well 😃

I've got 487 files in and iCloud folder which I tried to import by selecting all. After about 5 minutes they all imported but most had zero time stamp. One file failed (began with G) so I suspect there's probably a limit on how many one can import in one go... probably detailed elsewhere in these pages! Now done them all in smaller groups. Lyrics are there as well. In fact updating songs/lyrics is much easier now than having to go through iTunes or Apple Music!

It might be related to the fact that cloud items have not been completely downloaded. You could work around this problem by first downloading them in the Files app and them importing in Stage Traxx. But importing smaller batches like you did is also fine.

Today I looked if it would be possible to access lyrics from the Apple Music database and it does indeed work. So version 3.4 will be able to import lyrics from Apple Music even if they are not stored in the audio files but only as metadata in the database 🙂

And even better: lyrics are then written into the audio file so you can copy the file to your computer and the lyrics will be embedded.

Happy days! Thanks again. I've been a ST2 user for ages and am just about to start using ST3 (which I've had for a couple of years but not used). Gigs planned for upcoming months so here goes...

I'm a brand new ST3 user, having used an alternative app for a few years. I'm really keen to be able to use the wider range of features within ST3 rather than my current app. But.. I'm stuck...

I've a large collection of backing tracks in iTunes, each with their lyrics embedded using iTunes/Get Info feature.
If I import an iTunes Playlist into ST3, I can see the lyrics within ST3.

However, if I import the actual source files from my MacBook/iCloud folder, which I believe is the recommended import method, the lyrics are missing.

If I look at those files using MP3Tag on MacBook, I can see the lyrics exist within the UNSYNCEDLYRICS extended tag.

In ST3, I see the contents of either the WWW or the WWWAUDIOFILE extended tag (I'm not sure which as they appear to have the same content).

Can anyone advise what I should do?

Stage Traxx will try to import the "LYRICS" tag and if this is empty, the "COMMENTS" tag. And if I add custom lyrics to a song in Apple Music and drag and drop this song to the desktop, the added lyrics are always in the "LYRICS" tag and are imported correctly in ST3.

The tags "WWW" and "WWWAUDIOFILE" are not read by ST3.

I'm sorry, just checked. It is the UNSYNCEDLYRICS tag that Stage Traxx tries to read first.
