Changes to region tap logic

peter Playmode of current region is reset when selecting another region. And when you select another region, tapping on the currently playing region will deselect any other region to cancel the jump to that region.

Changed in build 2104.

Great improvement , now it feels like I have confident control of segments , perhaps a jump indicator in the future updates when things settle down would take care of the problem when selecting loops outside the view.

Regarding the one time loop icon and finger operation of regions.
The logic still feels wrong.
Why?
One time loop is in the wrong order and unnecessary when finger selecting,
Why? In play mode.
To get a single repeat of this playing segment I should just select the same segment it then flashes like any other next segment but in this case it pops up the single repeat icon, this is same logic as ST3.
It then eliminates one unnecessary step when going through the segment menu.
Making it much more efficient operationally.
Tap one, repeats once this segment.
Tap two, puts it in permanent loop
Tap three, places a STOP.
Tap four, resets everything

When selecting another segment that’s not playing
while in play mode.

Tap one , selects the segment as NEXT
Tap two, places a PERMANENT LOOP
Tap three, puts a STOP
Tap four, puts a SKIP
Tap five, RESETS all selections

I am trying to reduce unnecessary steps and improve on stage experience and still give everyone what they need in the most efficient way.
If anyone can improve this logic please comment.

I have to agree, that for me the tap logic also is not perfect. But before I change anything I would like some feedback from other users. Would you change the tap behaviour on regions, or is the current behaviour good for you?

The thing is, this needs to be nailed down during the beta. Once the final version is released, I will not change something crucial like this no matter if there might be a better way to do it.

Another idea I had is if it would be maybe better to show a popup with the different playback modes. That way it would always be 2 taps to achieve what you want.

This is what’s worrying me , once it’s done a certain way it will stay, but it could be better.
I always ask myself why is something the way it is , and if I can’t answer quickly then it’s probably not a good way to do it.
Example
Why do we have loop once on a second tap and a permanent loop on a first tap , it makes no sense, as it’s hard work to hunt for something that should be immediate , I tap on another segment it’s next, simple , I tap on a now playing segment it permanently loops , the logic has just changed yet there’s no need to change , I most likely need one repeat and it’s only one touch of the screen and continue, by introducing this logic on a now playing loop you don’t need a single loop option on the interface , simply select the loop and it’s selected and will play again.
Your logic now is almost perfect , little tweaks make a big difference , I have written down my logic in earlier posts , give it some thought it’s worth the effort to get it right first time. I always see it from being on stage with no foot controls , only finger controls, the remotes are a bonus.The screen interface behaviour is most important the rest is all a bonus.
Good luck with your decisions, I don’t know how you do it , making so many complicated decisions in so many areas of the software.

I am wondering if there's a way to get a few ideas done in one go.

I have no issue with the way the loops have worked so far, but maybe you could simplify, or make it harder, depending on the view of the user.

Maybe one way is to make it that choosing a certain region is only looping a certain way and then continue,
such as infinite loop, then continue
then loop once, or click on the button and itll cancel the loop.
pause or cancel pause
skip and cancel skip

and then
maybe a multiple option region as another option?
where you can cycle through all the avail option?

personally for me, if i use a region its for loop infinite until i choose to continue, example the solo
to Purple Rain, ppl love the song and the solo is a huge highlight.
this is the song i had to stop on sunday.

then when you added the skip option, i am now using it on a few songs, like Africa, the last chorus repeats 5 times,
i really only need one. the only option aside from skip would be to go back to Logic and cut the song
there but there will be gigs i would want the 5 repeats and so its great

In both these above scenarios i dont want or need "extra'' loop options.
one click to continue, or "cancel" the loop, or skip. thats great.

Perhaps some songs would need multiple options, then maybe have a "type"
one that has only the function and cancel, or continue, and another
that merges the different options?

Thats as far as i could think about it.

Sharonzaz This is a very interesting idea. Limit user choices and therefore make it easier to use.

So how about this:

You only have all options available in the audio region editor.
When a region is set to skip or pause you can only toggle this mode on or off when repeatedly tapping on that region.
When a region is set to either next the taps will be loop once > loop > next.
When a region is set to loop or loop once the taps will be next > loop once > loop > next

But the downside is that now it is not possible to set a region to skip or pause during playback.

I'm really not sure. On the other hand simply switching the order so that loop once comes before loop might already be enough. The result would be:

First tap on a region will select it
Second tap would clear the currently playing mode whatever it is to Next
Each additional tap will cycle through Loop Once > Loop > Pause > Skip > Next.

This is a tough topic! 🤪

I am happy with ST3 because repeat is good enough for my use. So repeat once and skip are redundant to me.

That said, build 2104 is the so far most intuitive in my opinion.

thats why i suggested one type of loop as simple and another as advanced, and maybe be able to choose which type as you set them up.

not sure if that is something you could do, to be honest peter, the simple way of multiple click
enables different options (loop, continue, pause etc) works.

i think:
set up loop - choose whatever you want. (like we have now)
then at playback, first click disable the loop = continue
next tap(s) starts cycling through the options

oh and master fx 😜

peter Yes , you are spot on with second option, this gives us very simple and quick operation to be able to repeat a loop yet it allows us to setup an end stop on the playing loop if needed yet we can setup a skip on another loop if needed, change our mind last seconds to cancel all settings on now playing loop either by selecting another totally different loop or by simply a tap on the now playing loop.
This creates a lot of power on stage using finger control.

This is now much more quicker and flexible to operate on stage thanks Peter.
Things i have noticed.
As you select the now playing loop and its repeat sign shows it will do that , it would also be helpful to maintain consistency to make it flash as well , this then gives you the same affect as choosing a different loop as next, minor but why not keep it consistent.

As i play around and give it more thought now that its almost perfect,
I noticed , that if you go to another loop in play mode first hit is next , this is perfect , but we now don't need the repeat once icon as its only going to be next to play,
Also permanent loop and stop selection is not behaving like the SKIP selection, i believe the skip is perfect, if you select it it ignores the next selection and leaves skip in place and gets back to playing the now playing loop.
I believe this behaviour should be the same on permanent loop and stop as well,
At the moment with those two they are selected but the next behaviour is also obeyed, which is not what the user might want, they might just want this loop to stop when he actually gets to it , he doesn't want to jump to it next , if he did then he would simply select next.
I hope this makes sense.
Generally speaking the audio segment area is a great improvement on the old system it just feels easier to use and gives great confidence to whats going on in a song specially if the whole song is audio segmented it definitely puts a big smile on my face as i use it.
