Global transpose option

Current Limitation / Use Case:
Using Multitracks the feature to have transpose tracks is on a per track level

Proposed :
This really should be set on a global setting or Bus Level
Anyone that has existing multitracks set up, has the same outputs consistent
So
1 - Click & Cues
2 - Drums & Perc
3 - Bass
4 - Guitars
5 - Lead
6 - Other
7 - BV’s
Etc

You would never want to pitch drums or click so this should be a global setting to omit tracks on a global setting

Benefit / Impact:
You would have the entire set list transposable or omitted in a single click

That would be an amazing feature to have if some day your voice is not 100% and need to drop everything 1-2 semitones, or if you have a backup singer for a 1 time show.

jaytrax just for clarity (I've not used these features), in ST4 currently:

every track has a Transpose On/Off toggle (which solves Drums, Clicks, Cues tracks that we do not want changing pitch)
at the song level there is a Pitch +/- setting

So I'm assuming that you can do what you are proposing on a per-song basis already?

If so, then what you are proposing is to also have the Pitch +/- option at:

A Playlist level - e.g., you have a substitute singer for a gig, your band uses a Playlist as their set list, and need to take the entire set list down a semitone,
Global level - same scenario as above but you don't stick to a defined setlist (Playlist) and could pull any song out of your song list on the night so it would need to apply to every song played.

That sound about right and cover all scenarios you can think of?

The Playlist option might sound redundant if there is a Global option, but I hate making those sorts of changes at a global level as they are the sort of thing you forget to 'undo' and then next rehearsal/soundcheck...

Hiya,
To be honest it’s just something I noticed from a design pov and to see if it could be implemented

My multitracks and outs are all set the same way since ST3
rather than doing over 750 multitracks and omit the click and Drums transpose toggle from per song level

I wondered if it was easy to implement on a bus level

I understand there’s now free routing available, and was just and idea

Again this was from a design POV
I’ve never needed to transpose a song as of yet

It's simply not possible to do that on a global level, because tracks can be freely reordered. You don't need to have Click on track 1 in any song. Each song can have its own track order. And there are especially no empty track slots. So you can't omit track 4 if there are not guitars.

It was just an idea
Coming from ST3 - where I made a system and the outputs needed to have consistency across the outputs,
I just wondered if it was feasible

The transpose audio unit is attached to the track. The bus is connected further down the signal chain and can be fed by multiple tracks even from different songs (during crossfade) which makes it impossible to attach the transpose audio unit to the bus (one song might need transposing the other feeding the same bus not).

peter I know I might be over complicating things, but here’s an idea that might work “I think”

How about adding an option to select “global pitch change” in each track? Let me explain, when we import a track, in the track options (color, name, bus etc) add that option so when we add songs we can set that up. We can not turn that on in the click, cues, drums, fx & perc but we can turn it on on the rest?

And then in the master view or something, when choosing the global pitch change it will only affect the tracks that has that option “on”?

Is that crazy or might be a thing?

MusicMan81 you can already do this on a per track level basis

In song details
Select a track, for example drums
There is a toggle to transpose or omit transpose on that track

My request was that anyone migrating from ST3 to ST4 had dedicated outputs and so in my own personal use case this feature would have saved me about 1,500 toggles to manually deselect

A general batch edit function would be great but I think that is too complex to implement in version 4.0.

I was coming to a similar idea as I was reading through this.
A batch edit type capability would also help in another thread about naming Tracks.

I'm sure if it was put on the drawing board for ST5 people would think of more scenarios where this type of capability would be helpful, and thus help shape the scope of such a capability.

I wouldn't postpone it to ST5. More like 4.1 or 4.2 😉
