ST4 1792 - No way to return to Regions waveform view?

I don't know if I'm missing something, but when I go into an Audio Region to edit it (edit name, change colour), there doesn't seem to be a way to return to the previous screen (Regions waveform view)?

Environment: ST4 Build 1792, iPad iOS 26.0.1

Current Behaviour
When I go into an Audio Region to edit it (edit name, change colour), there doesn't seem to be a way to return to the previous screen (Regions waveform view)?

Given the entire Region edit panel seems to fit below the waveform, why does it collapse the waveform portion when editing a region? Why not just stay on the same screen the entire time or is this to cater for small screen devices?

Currently, even if you click on one of the other menu options (Details, Audio, Lyrics) and then click on Regions, the waveform is still gone.

The only way to return to the waveform view is to click 'Done' then re-enter the Song Info page and then enter the Regions tab.

Desired Behaviour
When editing region details

Do not collapse the waveform view, or
If the waveform view has to collapse for small screen device, then have a 'return' or 'done' button to get you back to that view, or
some other option that makes sense 🙂

Can you post a screenshot? I don't know what you mean. For me the waveform stays visible.

OK, I've first updated to Build 1810 and then repro'd the issue and recorded a video of me doing it.

I have a suspicion.. is it because the on-screen keyboard being displayed when you go to edit a field is causing the screen to collapse/hide the non-active element on the screen (i.e. the waveform panel)?

Yep, that is it.

OK, what I'm not doing is manually hiding the keyboard after I edit.

If I manually hide the keyboard by clicking the key in the bottom right corner, then the waveform panel returns, I can click the next region to edit, etc.
But if I don't do that, and instead after editing region details I click another menu options (Details, Audio, Lyrics) and then return to the Regions menu, it remembers the state I was in and re-opens the keyboard thus hiding the waveform.

So, I guess the question is:

Am I following a wrong workflow to edit Audio Region Details? OR
Is the expectation that when editing Audio Region Details on iPad that you have to manually click the 'hide keyboard' button when you have finished editing? (this option seems a little odd to me)

If the latter, maybe it's just me that it feels odd. I keep expecting there to be a 'Done' or 'Return' button on any Details screen that takes you back to the previous screen, but that may just be what I'm used to in software.

Yes, the waveform is hidden while the keyboard is displayed to be able to see the input field and the keyboard. I can not place the waveform view into a vertical scroll view because the gestures conflict each other. So hiding and showing the waveform when the keyboard appears is the only option.

But I can't reproduce the issue you have when switching to another tab with the keyboard opened. If I do that and return to the audio region tab the keyboard is hidden and the waveform is displayed. Or if I do it fast, the keyboard is still visible and the text field it was on still active. If I hide the keyboard, the waveform is visible again.

Yes, the expectation is indeed to hide the keyboard (either by pressing enter or the hide button).

Copy that! I've taken that approach while editing some regions and all good.

That's very odd. It is 100% reproducable for me. Doesn't matter if I go slowly or quickly to another tab, I always return to the Regions tab with the Keyboard open and waveform hidden.

Anyway, not a deal breaker!

What I could do that would improve the keyboard handling is to hide it when you tap outside of the text field. I think that should work.

I just checked about the expected behaviour for SwiftUI apps and how Apple does it in their apps and the standard behaviour is to keep the keyboard open even when tapping outside of the text field. I guess I would prefer to stick to the standard.
