So why can’t songs be used from the main A-Z lists,
Why does it have to be added to a Queue or by long pressing and choosing play next ?
Way too many steps needed

Why does the Queue populate 100 tracks on a tap ?

Personally I only use the A-Z

Also the crossfade doesn’t crossfade
It abruptly stops the active song and starts the next

Also the Master Eq section is gone where 6db gain could be added to compensate for the -6db buffer you had on ST3 - this can be compensated on the mixer gain but sending out 0db was easier from the device

EDIT - so queue on tap needed to be toggled
Also Crossfade has 2 fade out options
I needed to set both outs to 2.5s to crossfade mid song

The arrow to show song list is gone ?
Can that be added back

Also the Volume up down buttons per track
I appreciate the assignable buttons but I have to use 2 of them to get back the +1db -1db functionality or is that the intention to give the user the choice ?

Might be because I’m running on iPad (5th gen, ios 16.7), but the song volume fader and eq adjustments are rather jerky and slow to respond.

I might also suggest a double tap on fader resets to 0db

I’d be interested to see what everyone else thinks but is there a reason this button isn’t optional like on ST3?

+1 on wanting to hide cross-fade button. I will never want it on screen (I use a MIDI trigger on the rare occassions I use crossfade feature) and thus it will always be a 'accidental click' risk I would prefer to avoid. Turning on double-tap then creates problems just using Play/Pause.

I do understand the conundrum of people not seeing how to use crossfade because it isn't right there in front of their face on the main screen.

@peter I know you want to reduce the number of settings options to simplify the app and stop users getting themselves muddled, but I'm going to request a 'hide crossfade button' toggle option in the Settings. This toggle could be defaulted to ON to help the discoverability issue, but then be able to be turned off for those of us that aren't driving ST via the front screen and/or don't use the feature and want to reduce risk of accidentally hitting it.

Yeah, I noticed that and assumed I just needed more time to work out the UI evolution to get that back. I assume this is tied to the Queue being more important that the Playlist in ST4 @peter ?

So the pain point I'm now seeing with this change AND the fact that the Queue isn't part of the side bar (or dockable) is that you can't leave the Queue docked beside the lyrics to see what is coming up.

Even worse, when using Network Sessions, the client devices have lost the Playlist flyout view, and the Queue is (again) not dockable, not in the sidebar, but only a pop-up type window that sits over the lyrics page.

This is going to cause me a fair bit of grief in my band live use as the band members need to see the Playlist (or Queue in ST4 if that is the critical view) to see what songs are coming up. That needs to be in some sort of sidebar or docked window so it can be (optionally) always visible beside the lyrics.

Regarding Double Tap Protection

Can the option of setting Play Button and crossfade be set to double tap independently

I want double tap to prevent accidental stops but don’t won’t to double tap a crossfade

Now as a workaround I’ve assigned 4 buttons

Crossfade 🔀

BTW emojis like above can be used also

Maybe consider allowing a toggle option to show rewind and crossfade

I would never want to rewind a track mid performance ?
I personally use crossfade on every track but others may not want it visible

I got quite a few support emails asking how to crossfade because the button needed to be activated. I think this button is important for most users and should be easily available.

This is a good button to have at all times but it’s in a wrong DANGEROUS position , all functions that need to be hit regularly should be as far as possible from the Stop/Start button for obvious reason , it was good on ST3 because it was away to the right , now you have bottom space so use it wisely.
All buttons on the bottom space around the main button should be customisable to suit every user.
I love the assignable button feature but I don’t like that it places them to a pre determined screen position , I would like to long hold them and drag them to a position I prefer like the app icons on Apple new devices.

I think if the transport buttons are to stay
then reposition them or better still allow the assignable buttons to be docked in that lower screen

Also when crossfade is triggered the side bar should close automatically
For example I have a song playing
I tap to open list
I select next song
I then tap crossfade
It should force close the song list out because I manually open it it doesnt

I don’t use queue , and I am confused by the extra button that displays the queue function , I really don’t think that button should exist and the warning label should never appear , I think the best way to suit all users is a simple option in settings to either use the Playlist or Queue mode of performing , making both operate visually the same but in their different ways to suit all.
Getting rid of an unnecessary button and using that space for a much more needed function by shifting the Audio loop button out of the area it’s in now using up main heading space and becoming visible on iPhone devices at all times.
If I was using Queue I would not be happy with the way the window pops down and hides things important and confuses us all to what do we do with this window when we already have a perfectly good playlist to work with.
I understand people like using Queue way of working but there’s a great number that don’t for obvious reasons I mentioned in ST3 development, but I think in ST4 it’s not great the way it is if I was using it .
I will leave tis to queue users to give feedback on.

That was the idea of the MIXER button , it just introduces an extra button push but frees up space to have more immediate control of more important things .
Tweaking song volumes means you have not done your DAW HOMEWORK PROPERLY and yes I am also Quilty of dining that on some songs where they just need that bit of an extra tweak but it’s not something I do when I am performing every time , after a while every song gets its own level it stays on and balances with the others then this volume tweak becomes unnecessary, I think one extra button push is well worth putting up with by gaining buttons on the front surface which we push all the time while performing and yes you can have a volume tweak up down buttons to gently adjust the performance as you go but a number of us have a physical button on the side for backing tracks that way we can easily blend everything , and if you have a foot remote it makes it even better no one knows what you are tweaking .

I don’t like double tap on my stop start button but I do like the double tap on a song I want to play immediately instead of choosing it then having to hit stop start.
If there is a safety issue regarding accidental trigger then firstly get rid of the issue where it’s needed and as a last resort give us the the double tap option on that button only.

Hi Peter, feedback , please consider getting rid of this unnecessary message and use this spot for more useful purpose, my suggestion is give us the search function instead so we can easily find a song when in playlist mode so we don’t need to exit to song mode , also as I said before when you hit the playlist arrow to enter all playlists can you in the same place have the opposite return arrow so we can easily get back to where we were .This way it’s very simple to go back and forth from the two screens , and the search facility is available at all times on both SONG AND PLAYLIST MODES.
This becomes less confusing and much quicker to use.

Mattjohnson That would normally mean that the backup file isn't 'complete', but you say that the SAME file restored fine on your Mac? Did you copy it from the Mac onto the iPad and then tried to restore from it? In which case, maybe the copy wasn't successful.

Wow, what a makeover! Thanks Peter, such a lot of work.
I have loaded up my couple hundred song ST3 backup just fine. No issues on my IPad Pro.
I have a bunch of things to report but will wait for the flood to die down a bit as don’t want to overwhelm you.
One thing I would like to ask though, what is the purpose of the up/down arrows next to the green play button? Doesn’t seem to do anything for me?
And one request. It seems that when playback is started I can press the rewind button whilst song is playing. Very dangerous for live use. Please can we at least have some kind of “Safe mode” option whereby once a track starts playing, the playback cannot be rewound etc until it is stopped. Way too easy to touch the wrong button and crash the song. Same with the cross-fade button. As I say, maybe just as an option so as not to upset the folks that want to do stuff like that (although I can’t think why you would want to 😊) Cheers, Mark
