Damir Not really, my title was VIC and it was the very first 3 letters in the title , i ended up with 73 songs that did not exactly match my cryteria, its not asking much to be presented with the exact result to be on top of the search results.
No, you got exactly the result as per the way search works. It sometimes helps to slow down, understand how something works, and THEN critique it. Just because you don't like the way something works doesn't mean it is wrong or dumb ๐
So, in your example, you searched for VIC
As Peter explains in the documentation he linked to, All songs that contain the search term in their title or artist tags will be displayed as matching songs.
. Note: Title OR Artist tags.
So, in your example, it has returned all the songs where it found the term "VIC" in either the title or artist tags.
Then, it sorted those search results alphabetically based on the title, as per the current 'Sort By' setting on the page.
So, you got the exact results as designed.
Now, I do get the point you are trying to make (I think. Sometimes your posts are increbily verbose and it takes some effort to find the point). When you are trying to quickly find a song in your list, your intention is really to just search on song title. At least, that is what your example indicates. So, in your mind, you aren't really wanting songs matched on the Artist tag, only the Title tag.
Now, you can't turn around and say "the app should just know whether I'm searching against a phrase in Title or Artist, but not both". The app can't read your mind ๐.
But, maybe the request we could put to Peter is this: Would it be possible in ST4 to have an option to change the Search context to only the song Title tag (as opposed to current default of song Title and Artist tags)?
If that is the way you are ALWAYS going to want to quickly search for a song (i.e. by Title) then being able to change the Search context is the way to do that. In your example, if we had that option, then the song you wanted at the top of the list would be the correct one.
Changing the Search Context could be a global setting, or it could be done as an option beside the Search box, similar to the 'Sort By' and 'Filter' options.
