Background Battery Drain.

A while ago I picked up my ipad to find the battery completely flat. I could see that Stagetrax had been in the background. I thought little of it at the time, although i grabbed a screenshot of battery use in case it happened again. Last night, my ipad had been on charge before going to bed when i unplugged it. by morning i was down to 50%. I had forgot to close stagetrax at the end of practicing last night so it was in the background.

I have background processing turned on, and use icloud sync. I don’t believe this happens every time. I tried to repeat by starting stagetrax before going to bed after the first time, but it behaved normallly.

dsc66 Strange you mention that because lately my performance IPad pro 10.5 inch on 10.7.8 has had battery issues.
All of a sudden if I don’t plug it in to power and leave it sitting it goes flat in no time , looking at the usage ST3 is showing 96% usage , I thought my battery is dying but I am not so sure now as it’s only after I updated my operating system this became an issue.
I have just turned on Low Power Mode and am hoping this was the issue, I won’t place it on charge and will see what happens over night as I have 100% charge , I will power down everything and see what happens.

dsc66 Make sure Settings > Playback Settings > Pause In Background is ON and you don't host a network session. Else Stage Traxx will keep running in the background and will keep draining your battery.

Also make sure you are at least on version 3.8.30 as previous versions could cause battery drain in the background from time to time.

peter Thanks Peter, my Pause in background needed to be turned on, I will see if this gets back the normal battery expectancy.

peter This morning i checked my Ipad , it had 44% left and ST3 had 33% usage operating system 43% and a few other apps the rest.
This is with all apps closed , ST3 settings as required for best battery saving.
This to me, still seems a problem, something smells i just dont know where the smell is comming from.
Now i have put the ipad on charge again without opening any apps and will wait for full charge again and rhen letting the ipad sit without touching a damn thing and see how the battery drains over time again.
My next test will be turning off wifi then after that bluetooth to see if that makes a big difference and if so which of the two might be the culprit using so much power behind the sceenes, i suspect the operating system logic to be the cause as i dont trust Apple developers as far as i could throw them as they are becomming more slack and sloppy with their so called improvements, concentrating too much on security instead of the operating system itself , causig us unnecessary grief.
Thats my gut feeling.
I will do the same test on my newer 9th gen ipad with latest operating system and see what happens in comparison.

Same here. Pause in background now enabled. I assumed this would pause music if i switched apps, but reading the manual I can see this is not the case. I will give it a try. Thanks

I left stage trax in the background as well last night. Happy to report all looks as it should.

Heres my report on battery usage by two different ipads.
Device,
1 is an older ipad pro that can only run 17.7.8
2 is ipad 9th gen that is on 18.5
Results are, starting with full charge on both with no apps open, settings are the same, without any power supply, sitting overnight and checked mid day next day.

Device 1
Had 64% battery left
Battery usage by apps
MAIL 70%
SIRI 30%
SCREEN ON 1min SCREEN OFF 1min

Device 2 had 100% battery left
Battery usage by apps
MAIL 93%
Pia VPN 7%
SCREEN ON 1min SCREEN OFF 2:38min

I dont understand this result as it makes no sense to me the percentage usage by apps has me confused, and the screen off on device 2 seems to be a big difference.

Can anyone work out or understand this silly logic?
Device 2 seems to make sense.
Device 1 results are almost the same but i have lost power somwhere and the data does not point to much of a clue.
Any ideas?

The app percentage is relative to the total cpu time spent. If you device is idle then you usually see apps with low cpu requirements having a high percentage like for example mail in both your examples. The actual battery drain could also be caused by the age of your battery on the older device. peter Thanks Peter, after fiddling around with settings I checked the battery levels on both devices again and to my surprise found the new iPad had 99% and my old iPad Pro was at 93% which is what I would expect as I did not fully exit ST3 on the old iPad I was expecting an empty battery this morning, so I suspect that a setting of some sort was causing my battery drain overnight, I wish I knew which damn setting it was, the whole settings thing is so damn complicated and flexible , a bit too much for my liking, everything is getting over bloated with extra functions I don’t want or need.

Went to bed leaving stagetrax in background again. oops. Flat battery this morning.

Throughout the night Stagetrax appears to be the culprit consuming 99% in each section of the night. I can confirm, pause in background is enabled in the playback section of stagetrax.

Of course 99% stagetrax usage might be 99% of next to nothing, but it looks like the battery drained between 40%-50% overnight which is not normal for my ipad. Compare to the graph i posted above (4 days ago) where overnight drain was not measurable.

Which ST3 version are you running? Did you change the pause in background setting? Did you host a network session?
