  • Spotify cuts out when opening ST3

Hi Peter,

I have a small issue with ST3. I use Spotify for background music, but the moment I open ST3 to select a soundtrack, Spotify cuts out for a second. The same thing happens when I exit ST3—Spotify interrupts for a second again. This issue appeared recently, it wasn’t there before.

Is there any solution for this?

Best regards.

I don't think there is a solution. This happens during the initialization of the audio engine. iOS seems it needs to stop audio output to reconfigure the audio session for ST3. Most likely a change in the way audio sessions are handled in one of the recent iOS updates.

Johnny67 solution is, place your background music in to ST3 playlist and rely on ST3 totally.
I would never rely on internet based anything for gigs for numerous reasons.
If you are using Spotify it means you don’t need reliability and a small changeover glitch should not be a major problem. Apples operating system is constantly changing so I rather stick with one reliable program to handle all my audio needs , even then things could change with updates.

Under the playback settings there is "Pause in background". Turn it off.

Thank you for the post. I am experiencing this too… although not with Spotify, with apple library and djay pro app. I have, in stage traxx3, under playback settings turned off ‘pause in background’ and it has improved the glitch when switching between the two apps. Hopefully will be resolved in another update.

Damir Personally, I prefer to play background music on Spotify, Apple Music, etc. I perform in a variety of venues to a variety of audiences and I need a wide range of background music in different styles. Plus, I would get bored if I had the same background music every night. I don't support the idea that the StageTraxx developer would waste his time on background music functionality, which is already available in other, specialized apps.

I don't think this can improve that pause. What this does is pause the audio engine when ST3 is not playing anything and moved to the background. It does not change anything during the initialization of the audio engine. Therefore it should make no difference when starting ST3.

I understand your need I am in the same boat , but I look at it differently , background music is just that BACKGROUND, I also play different venues with different culture people requiring different language music , I have various playlists that cater for mixed language as well as different genres of songs with about 2 hours of length each, I do not create these playlists for my own pleasure they are there to do one simple job and that’s to be a filler to the audience at a level they can still talk to each other and mingle conformably , ST3 is perfect for that as each playlist has its own level set so I don’t have to stuff around searching the net and playing around with things unnecessarily when I need to get off stage I simply choose my next song to be in the appropriate background music playlist and when I am done I have two options MIX to the background songs and walk off the stage the levels are correct and appropriate music is playing also I don’t need to worry about song choices as already played songs will be missed automatically, when I get back on stage I simply choose my playlist and select the next song to where I last left the playlist , this also is easy cause all my done songs are highlighted I simply choose the next song and either XFADE to start or wait till the end of the background music song and off I go again, no internet connection involved that could cause problems or complicated Spotify control or gaps in audio.
When I do serious work on the latest computers I still don’t like using multiple software at the same time because the risk of things going wrong are much higher, this mentality is specially useful when on stage .
It just means I don’t have much trust in computer developers cause I understand how easy it is for something to go wrong ,, the new generation of people totally trust the technology and that’s fine, i don’t think I will trust it in my lifetime.
ST3 is much better for background music than other dedicated background music players in my opinion.
Good luck with it all I am sure you will find a solution.

Damir Thanks for the post, I understood everything. I'll just add from my side that in my case background music is not only for background, but also for people who continue dancing after I've finished performing or take a break. Here, for example, the DJAY app helps me. It's also a great idea that, for example, for weddings, the bride and groom create a Spotify playlist of their favorite songs and share it with me. As a rule, I download the playlists in advance and don't play them directly from the internet to avoid possible problems. In conclusion, my role is not only to sing, but to make sure that the entire event is covered with suitable music.

John ah I see , whenever I am in that situation I use my backup device iPhone 16 pro max Blue toothed to my mixer , I try not to use my iPad and ST3 I perform with for anything else it's purely my performance tool unless it’s a very small gig where it does not matter that much.
We’ve all got different needs , I try to keep things as simple as possible, a few years ago I use to play with my band and be a DJ and MC on the night, I wish I had ST3 then .
                Keep on rockn!🕺🏻🎤🎸

Johnny67 I run Spotify and ST3 side by side on the same iPad at the same time no issue.

                Open ST3
Click the three dots at the top of the iPad (works on iPads gen6 and up)
Open Spotify. Slide Spotify 30% to the right with the partition bar. Tada.
