  • Convert or duplicate lyrics only song?

id like to have 2 different versions of songs , one that i would use live with no backing tracks, and one that i use WITH backing tracks for practice at home. is there a way to do that without having to create completely different songs? its going to be very tedious to create 2 different songs for everything.

thanks!

jhipple86 it’s not a problem, use normal backing tracks method on stage and just don’t connect your audio out when using it silently. No need for two versions.

Hi, I make a separate copy, and use the same song title, but add 1AA after the lyric only one to differentiate between the 2. I use highlight text with the backing tracks version, and obviously you can get the tempo wrong when using without the backing and then the highlight will be on the wrong word..

Why not just mute the audio when you don't need it? I don't see a benefit in having two different songs just for the purpose of one playing audio and one not. When on a gig, just set the audio routing to "Disabled" or turn down your iPad volume or don't connect your iPad to the PA 😉

hunterronno thats what im going to have to do. its tedious, but like you said, the highlight words would be off when i musted it for live performance and it would definitely throw me off.

peter i like to highlight the lyrics on the backing track ones, and it would be confusing when the track is muted.

So you remove all timecodes in the version without backing track?

peter yeah, my band doesn't use a click, so it will be inaccurate. it would totally throw me off.

so for example, when I'm practicing my vocals when I'm at home by myself, i need backing tracks and i like to have timecodes for the lyrics.

When i practice with the band, they don't use a click, so all the timing would be off, and i don't need a backing track .

But then why not just don't press play when you play with the band?

If you are performing it live without lyric highlighting, why bother practising it lyric highlighting?
That seems to be the key part of the problem, because if you remove that, then the above suggestions (i.e. muting backing track audio when not needed) all work.

Otherwise, if you absolutely must have lyric highlighting when practising at home, then you do seem to be resigned to having to create 2 versions of the song:

              1. Home practise - backing tracks and lyric sheet timestamping/highlighting
              2. Live with band - lyric only song (no timestamping)

So if you want them to move, but don't highlight. Just disable Settings > Lyrics > Highlight Current Line when playing with your band.
