royandreno ST should first and foremost cater to ipad users, more so than iphone
I agree, I mainly use 10.5 inch iPads as they are perfect size compromise to be on stage and not too dominant yet large enough to see and use at a distance.
iPhones are good for backup or close use like stuck on top of an accordion, while desk top computers are nice to use for pre production at home but I find iPads operating system with touch screen to be more practical and faster to edit with then desktops.
My main focus is on stage ease of use , pre production is something we can work around and put up with but when on stage you want the software to shine , I need the lyrics firstly and next song selection to be there at all times , I also use the loops , these three things are a must have, I was frustrated by small loop segments and hitting the wrong areas on the interface either the window would drop down by mistake or I would activate the wrong loop by mistake, I also did not like placing my hand in front of my lyrics when bouncing around a song,
Peter has now given us all bigger buttons and I am hoping nothing in that area will drop down unexpectedly,
I also hope the naming of loops is going to remain as is ,
I use my ears and the loop segments to have an idea to where I am in the song , a waveform to me is only useful when creating loops , I am too bussy on stage to look at audio levels in a waveform , thatās something that I look at very carefully in the pre production stage.
I think having a programable skip is a waste of time because you can achieve an instant skip by selecting another loop , if something needs a fixed skip thatās programmed then it should have been done in pre production stage i cant think of a reason for it that makes live manipulation of backing better. Its just giveing us another feature thats unnecessary as you can already skip a section by selecting another segment, perhaps i am not looking at it correctly, can anyone give me a different perspective, appart from being able to permanantly ignore sections of songs , in that case just edit the song correctly in the first place.
A programmed permanent loop is a different thing, as you can use it in useful ways on stage , a permanent skip is just for those that dont want to do any prep work.
I guess there are people out there that just load in any file and want to chop it up willy nelly without using a daw.
I would like to see the loop buttons to be automatically scalable, depending on the number of loops you have and to have a minimum useable size , so if you have a very small audio segment then you get the minimum size button if you have a verse to have a medium size button that way you can immediately see which loops are very short as they are the smallest , they might be less then 10 seconds , this would visually warn us that this loop is short yet the button is minimal but large enough to comfourtably hit it, all other loops can remain identical , and if you have a few loops they automatically stretch out in size to always use up the available screen space , this way a single loop would be one large button which could be used to trim the begining and end of songs.
This is then using that space wisely and making it user friendly on stage .
I think having a seperate trim begining and end could be incorporated it the audio segment editor to keep things in one spot, a simple drag from left or right side in the audio editor trims the song and a single full loop could be used to create a perfect song that has one loop which scrolls through to see where you are in the song and multiple loops break the song up in to required pieces .
The buttons are automatically assigned their size with a dedicated minimum sized buttons that represent very short loops.
Sorry for the blabber but iam writing as i am thinking, you are all welcomme to improve my blabber.
Just some thoughts of how I would do things if I had the power and knowledge of programming software.
ST4 is definitely a step up so far š
