Macbook Keyboard Shortcuts

Sorry Peter I don’t know the technicalities, but I only know that other software can simply use the hardware keyboard space bar to play/stop its software and it’s really great to be able to do this, a 3 finger shortcut is not a shortcut it’s a chore that simply won’t be used by many. There must be a solution I am just pointing out a problem that should not be there.
Luckily most of my editing to finalise a song in ST3 is done on an iPad because it’s a lot more faster for all these reasons including not having to transfer anything when finished it’s all done and dusted on my performing device then every so often a full backup is transferred back to all my devices for backup.
So when I do get on my Mac Studio I really notice things that don’t work well and try to point them out.
The only thing I miss on the iPad is the 85 inch screen but that would not work on stage cause the audience wouldn’t see me
HAPPY NEW YEAR ST3 killed it again Thanks to you.

Out of curiosity I tried the 3 finger gesture on my Mac Studio, Command+Shift+Space bar, and it doesn't work.
I get a spotlight search box pop up after hitting the three buttons , not once have I managed to play the song, no matter which order I hit the 3 buttons and even when I tried to hit them at once.
I am using the apples keyboard on AUSTRALIAN keyboard, I also tried CROATIAN keyboard with no results.
What am I doing wrong?
I haven't checked any other shortcuts as I don't like them for the reason there are too many, and I can't remember them cause I don't use them often enough , its just not practical and I am not a computer programmer so these shortcuts mean diddly squat to me.
Seems like you have remapped the shortcut for Spotlight Search. The default shortcut for it is cmd+space. System shortcuts always take precedence. If you reset it to the default on macOS, it will work in Stage Traxx.

I haven’t done anything , my Mac Studio is new and I haven’t fiddled with any settings, and according to ST3 instructions stop/start is a 3 finger job cmd+shift+space
But it’s a no go Joe.
So is ST3 not already setup for default settings of OS
?
I don’t even know where to start to look at this in the operating system.
I just purchased a 2024 MacBook- all keyboard shortcuts work as designed on my end
And Peter and Damir- Thank You for your knowledge-
New user, been reading old posts- both you guys ROCK!

Hi Robert, you’re lucky, my Mac Studio running on SEQUOIA 15.2(who thinks of these names?) does nothing but occasionally pop up a spotlight search window, it depends on how I hit the three finger gesture.
I really feel like showing the Apple designers a one finger gesture .
I have gone in to keyboard settings and tried to figure this out , WHAT A DOGS BREAKFAST THAT IS!
Nothing makes logical sense , I defaulted everything , still nothing works , I tried to use my logical sense to figure out how to program the shortcuts , WELL I COULD PROBABLY FIGURE OUT HOW TO FLY TO THE MOON FIRST.
What a nightmare , nothing makes sense and everything I want to do is not there, have I got that old that I can’t think logically anymore or does Apple have weed smokers designing their operating system , I don’t know.
Anyway even if I did figure out how to get the 3 finger gesture to work I would probably never use it as it’s awkward and useless a simple space bar hit to start play is all I’m after like everyone else that uses logical software.
Have a happy new year and rock on .

After talking to Apple support for 2 hours we managed to work out the keyboard shortcuts operation in OS
and how it works with ST3.
My honest feedback, it’s stupid. why?
Firstly there is no idea where these shortcuts actually work in ST3 manual.
They only work in the Lyrics Editor.
Secondly to set the 3 figure gesture in the OS it is buried in SETTINGS, keyboard settings, keyboard shortcuts , Apps, Stage Traxx 3, Name the shortcut, do the three fingers gesture , hit save .
After all that you get a useless feature that’s absolutely not useable only in the lyrics editor where it’s much simpler to hit the play button in bottom left and the time stamp bottom right with a mouse.
What’s more ridiculous you can create a 3 finger gesture to enter the timecode , well that’s even worse of an idea.
So my feedback is , I don’t like it at all, it’s not workable and it’s a waste of time to setup.
I was expecting to be able to dedicate one button for play/stop like space bar and another to hit timestamps like shift, this then creates useable shortcuts.
The stupid Apple operating system gives us shortcuts to all sorts of useless things we don’t even know are there and when you hit two finger key combinations you get things popping up you never need yet I want a simple space bar stop start and a shift key to enter timecode but that useful thing is not available.
This is bad.
The 3 finger gesture does not even work on the normal player , so why bother creating these useless keyboard shortcuts.
Perhaps I am missing something upstairs.
I like SIMPLE.
You can assign the FN keys 13 through to 19 on the Mac keyboard to do as you are requesting. Use an app called Karabiner. Have been using it for ages now, and it makes the full editing and time sync a breeze now.
My setup is
F13 - stage Traxx pink
F14 - Stage Traxx Blue
F15 - Stage Traxx Orange
F16 - Stage Traxx Red
F18 - Start and Stop Stage Traxx
F19 - Timestamp
Of course it can be customised however you want it for your own needs - its not just limited to the Function keys either, you can customise the full keyboard (Carefully)

Hi Dave thanks for the tip, yes I have downloaded the software but am having trouble understanding how to program it , could you give me an example of the process please, say I want to enable the LOCK key top right on my keyboard to be able to trigger time stamp button function in ST3, how would I do that, I don't use the LOCK key and its conveniently placed on the corner of my keyboard.
Thanks in advance, Damir
