DirtBlonde ok thx for the info

As a fellow owner of the UI24R I have to sadly say that while this mixer is one of my favorites to use, it has a couple of bugs and one of them is a very problematic USB port and I had to go with another brand (QU-SB) and never had issues like that since.

I have tested this problem extensively and sadly have to report that nothing can be done, there are bad batches and better batches, no one knows which is which, I know the designer of this mixer personally and he is completely oblivious to this issue.

Sell the mixer get something else, trust me, you’ll have less gray hairs in the end. It’s not the iPad or the connector, it is the mixer. The usb input for plugging in a flash/hard drive is different and I had zero issues with that. Only the usb port to use the mixer as a sound card, tested with iPad, Mac, pc, you name it. All identical results to you dropout at a random time and only a reboot sorts this out.

I also have to say that I have tested and used other devices with exactly the same adapters/cables with NO problems. Helix, other mixers, three different sound cards, it is definitely the mixer.

If you want to keep the mixer you could get a sound card that has multiple outputs and connect those multitracks with cables to the mixer but that’s adding another device and cables and adding time to connect everything.

Sharonzaz thanks for your help. Yep I figured that might be the case. Love the ui24 as well but time to upgrade i guess. Thinking of the A&H CQ 18T.

I second the A&H choice. I have replaced my X32 with a CQ20B and everyone in the band noticed a clearer sound on the in-ears. Maybe the 96kHz processing is indeed noticeable. 5GHz builtin wifi is rock solid. Only downside: double check before a gig that the feedback eliminator is off or in static mode, or else your sound will degrade over time as the feedback eliminator will continue to remove frequencies.

So I’m currently using an MR18
and have done so for years, still love it,
But I’ve recently preordered the Behringer Wing rack version

I also own Waves SuperRack and have many options regardless processing

Thanks all. I now have the cq-18t. Put up a seperate post about sample rate to understand that but all seems to work well.

Do you want to use st3 purely as lyric and chords screen, and have audio coming from elsewhere. I often send a start command and a song select to st3 over WiFi from my pc, you could do the same with a Mac I guess.

Kevtyler thanks yes that was the plan but upgraded to a cq-18t. First gig last night and worked flawlessly. Cheers.

Sharonzaz My band is using the A&H QU-SB and we are running into the same issue as the OP, so I don't think its the mixer necessarily. We are using an iPad with latest IOS into an ANKER USB multi-port adapter. Could it be the adapter? We are running Stage Traxx multi-track audio via USB into the mixer and on several occasions, the backing tracks have stopped and Stage Traxx freezes. This is problematic during a show since most of the songs have backing tracks, particulary the encore. Thanks!

There could be many reasons why you’re having there issues with your A&H, a faulty one for starters. Can happen.
Bad or not so great quality cables and or Camera Kit adapter.
Insufficient power to your iPad. Too much power to your iPad.
Another app running in the background like a DMX app (happens to me occasionally with Photon 2).
Electricity issues in the venue. Etc etc.

The UI24 however is documented many times with these USB issues, and so while I appreciate your input and am sympathetic to your issue, the two mixers share very little in common when it comes to operating as an interface. Trust me 😊.

Besides the occasional DMX app causing a playback error as it crashes there is zero issues for me, and a number of my friends running the same setup with the QU-SB. Zero. If I were in your area I bet I could quickly identify your issue, being the actual mixer (doubtful but it can happen) but more likely another reason. Usually something small and silly. My confidence comes from experience however i will not claim to never be wrong. This happens enough times for me to admit that there are enough exceptions to the rule, however the QU is a robust mixer, USB wise at least.

I’d like a full rundown of your setup from the iPad (and its version) down to the cables, adapter, USB hub should you use one, power supply for your iPad, and type of USB cable from the iPad to your mixer. I found that that cable alone can cause major headaches, I have invested so much money in buying special “audio specific’ usb cables (dumb idea but good to experiment) to the simplest cable (also dumb), but usually something that comes with a decent audio interface would work well enough.
Anything above 2m or longer is prone to problems. Avoid those. If you’re using a hub, there are “special ones” that are proven to work with audio and only use active USB over Ethernet (I could link to the one I got) with a CAT6 or 5e and also don’t exceed the recommended length.

rpmurray What do you mean by Stage Traxx freezes? It does not longer react to anything on the screen?

I would use an iRig interface (or other USM interface) and then connect analog to the console to solve the problem without the $$ outlay for a new console.
