Creating a playlist from an m3u or plain text file

Hi Peter

Sorry to bother you with this. My music partner and I both use st3, he’s labeled the songs on his pad slightly different to mine, so when he shares a playlist with me st3 identifies the different songs and gives me the common songs, basically it deletes about 100 songs from the list.

I’ve got my partner to share his list as a plain text and its save on the cloud, I just want the list with the 130 songs in front of me, on st3 so I can easily shuffle prospective sets about, rather than write on bits of paper etc. I don’t want to physically play anything, I’m happy if st3 turns them all red and warns me they are missing etc,

Is this possible at all ?

ST3 can run side by side with any other app. Why not just view the text list in the Files app and have ST3 opened and visible at the same time?

I just wanted to be able to shove the songs around in a prospective play list, and then email it back to my mate for his consideration, and obvioulsy the songs would line up with his data base and thus work if he liked my ideas.

Then that's not possible. You two need to get your song names in order. Then you can share playlists without issues.

Hi guys, Just in case anyone thinks I’m being awkward, we don’t use the audio features of st3, my partner runs stop and play on his pad, I see the running order on my pad through the join session feature, our audio is coming from a laptop triggered by wireless midi on st3, so I don’t really want to fill my pad with songs I’ll never play.

You don't need to fill your iPad with audio for songs you never play. Just create lyrics only songs. Title and Artist info needs to match on all devices. That's all you need to make sure.

In the end I wrote the sets on 3 pieces of paper, and then photo’d and what’s apped them,

Interesting thing about syncing to another ipad is for recovery of failure when your ipad decides to do a branch to the weeds in the middle of a show, you'll wish you had a backup....any backup.....in 45 years of performing ask me how I know....and I'm in IT for a living ...having a backup server / device for a critical function is pretty mandatory..

I have a playlist with 200 songs in it, It’s a real pain moving songs around with my finger on a pad, is there any way a windows user can do this off line on a windows machine?

I don’t have these 200 songs in a playlist right now, other than in st3 on my pad. I’ve shared them as a plain text and wonder can I save this as an m3u , import it to iTunes maybe, then export it back to st3, what does everyone else do ?

If you like to tinker around, export the playlist as a playlist file. It is just a gzipped json file. If you don't know what I am talking about, better not touch it. But if you know what that means, you can just edit that file. And then load it back into ST3.
