Backup file name

I use quite a few database only backups which I store in iCloud. It would be useful to have the name of the latest backup restored in each iPad. Does this already exist (and I haven't found where ?) or is it possible in a future version ?

What do you mean by that? You can already name your backups whatever you want.

I meant when I load a data backup into an iPad I would like to see the file name somewhere in ST. (On the iPad)
Maybe in the backups menu add a line with the current file name ?

Stage Traxx does not know that you loaded a backup to the iPad. Backups can basically be stored anywhere on the iPad and also on cloud hosters. ST3 can not search your whole iPad for backup files.

I just wanted to suggest having the name of THE LATEST FILE loaded into ST visible in ST’s Backup menu. Not the whole list of files on all my drives and elsewhere in the world.
What’s so hard to versteihen ???

No, it doesn't know that you copied files to your iPad.

If you restore a backup in ST3, it does of course know that you restored a backup.

So can it not display the name of the file it knows I copied FROM my iPad INTO ST ?
With 5 appliances equipped with ST it would be useful to know the name of that file 🤞🤞🤞

AlanC76 I think what you are asking for is, to know what backup you have currently loaded in to ST3 so you can destengwis what device has what backup installed in to it. So you can determine which new backup you need to use on which device.
If that’s correct, than I agree it would be helpful to know what backup you are currently on a particular device, as it would get very confusing.

Hm, and what should be displayed if you make changes? I mean in that case it is no longer the state of the backup you restored.

peter that’s true, but at least you know what was the last backup you used on which device , if you have a number of them , like I have 7 , 2 iMacs, 2 iPhones and 3 iPads , so it would make it easier if you knew what was the last backup you used as you might not want all devices to be the same due to age of device and perhaps you are running two seperate devices with totally different back ups needs.

peter hi Peter I think Alan’s answer was using my response , I can understand your logic and it makes some sense but from a user point of view having the last loaded backup name displayed can be very helpful to know because a lot of us make frequent backups as it’s the safest way of running so by having the information of what was the last backing we used is important to avoid confusion especially if running multiple devices.

OK, I will certainly consider it for version 4. If there is time I might add it in one of the coming bugfix releases as the required changes are minimal.

peter Maybe in the update, there's something simple in the prefs that says "Last Database File Restored: xxxx.st3" and then as soon as ANY change is made, it can be followed by an * or the text could become italicized or something to that effect so the user still can confirm which database file was last loaded, but there's also an indication that changes have been made to that restoration. From there it's up the user to track and know what changes have been made and how they want to organize and manage their current database and backup files.

That’s a good idea and it would be useful. But personally I do all my preparations on the iMac then upload to my server.
So if I make changes it would be on the iMac and would soon be saved as a new backup. 😉
Knowing which backup was loaded into each of my 4 other devices would save time and panic !! Specially if it was a full backup (often 6Gb or more …)

AlanC76 Oh, I think I see what you're saying. Like something in the app that links information across devices in your account that tells you which device has which backup currently loaded? That's a really good idea!

Currently, I'm using my MacBook Pro to do all my editing and then AirDropping to my iPad. And soon I'll need to share with two different drummers who play with me based on availabilities. So yes, knowing which database is loaded on which device would certainly be helpful!
