Jump to previous audio region

Hi Peter,
I want to start by saying, I have used every automation/lyric display/backing track software out there and none of them can even come close to the stability and features available in the ST3 architecture. My band and I use the software during practices, rehearsals, and live for a number of the available functions. You've done a great job!

One feature that I believe could be really useful would be the ability to jump to a previous audio region using a function that allows you to back up to previous audio regions without having to go through each remaining and previously played region when utilizing a midi foot controller.

Our band creates our own backing tracks and loops as well as using some pre-fabricated tracks from a number of sources. The ability to jump from one section of the song to another is a great feature we frequently utilize, but while playing it requires a lot of "toe tapping" to get back to that last "solo region" or "add a verse" on the fly as we often do.

I love the app and I love the freedom and versatility it has brought to our sets both for learning new material, and working the stage during live performance! Thanks a ton!

This is actually a good idea. If it can be added with only minor changes, I could maybe even fit it into one of the coming bugfix releases.

Would it also be possible to add the "Jump to Next Region" functionality please?
That would be great because it's better for me than "Select next audio region" which requires you to press twice each time to move to the next region, whether while the song is playing, or when it's in break and we want to start again at the start of the region.

peter i think he means that when you press the button it actually jumps/skips over the next selection to the next region , this would eliminate multiple button pushes, i think it would be handy for when you pause backing and sing through the segment then you want to join back in on the next unplayed section , now you hit next but you get the now segment again which you have just sung through what you actually need is the next unplayed section as you dont want to start on the already played section but with a simple one button push instead of two pushes of the pedal to get there as its a stressful moment and you want simplicity.
I think this is what is beeing asked for and i must say i think i did mention this ages ago.
Perhaps another setting is needed in STOP BUTTON MODE pause behaviour , if you pause it starts replay from Same position if you hit START but if you press loop select it immediately chooses the NEXT UNPLAYED LOOP then you hit START, this then gives you instant option of restart , this becomes handy when creating an audience involved break and getting back to the backing track.

At the moment if you PAUSE and choose the next loop it secects the NOW already played loop , this is not ideal.

Yes hello that's it and what would be great:
When we press pause and restart playback, playback should start at the start of the current loop, we would be sure to be on the right beat like that.
This is a configuration that often happens during my concerts (for example for a double bass solo without music, or for a part that becomes acoustic with guitar vocals)... And then when we want to start again at the right tempo and on the first measure , I would really like this to start at the start of the loop.

Why would you want the beginning of now playing loop when this section of music has just been played without backing what you want is the next loops begining so you meet up with the backing , i suppose it depends where you pause in the now playing loop , if its a pause in the middle somwhere than an automatic selection of begining of the upcomming loop is a good rejoin point.
Perhaps some more thoughts from others might pin point the best options to make interacting with audience becomes real simple and easy.

Yes you're right Damir, it would be great to be able to start at the start of the next loop too. In any case what would interest me is to start at the beginning of the cycle to be sure to be on the first beat of the measurement (without this it is impossible to be precise and the recovery is wobbly to be synchronous in music). Before using Peter's great application I used a Beat Buddy and when I resumed after a break we were always at the start of the sample. The idea is to be able to do a bit of the same thing with ST3, but I would also be fine if it was the start of the next loop (next region). I think that with this improvement Peter could get a lot of BeatBuddy users back who would switch to ST3…

Olivier yes I totally agree, it’s the fact ST3 does not recognise beats but relies on time to segment audio, so the only option at the moment is programming the logic when paused do nothing but return to same position or if Peter could give us other 2 options if you are in between two timestamps skip the one you are closest to and joint to the next one , that at least gives us a chance to have a break from backing but returns us on the beat of the next upcoming timestamp, because all my songs are fully segmented in to audio regions I could easily pause anywhere and be sure that I can return easily on the next region on the beat without any extra button pushes apart from the start button , this then would give us performers a lot more power on stage to engage the audience.

I'm sure our @Peter can do this without any problem, provided he finds it of interest to the greatest number of users. There are certainly many of us in this situation (all those who used the BeatBuddy already...) and many others

I will try to improve in that area in version 4. I will not change it in version 3 as the whole audio region handling is very complicated and too error prone to change.
