I'm here to report a HUGE success story in using StageTraxx to send Midi-controlled video! Once I got our DMX lighting rig all hooked up and controlled through StageTraxx, I started looking for a way to send videos, and I found this GENIUS and AFFORDABLE utility called "Visibox." It does exactly what I wanted - sends video clips based on Midi commands. We just had our first show using the new system and everything worked like gangbusters. Visibox is just like StageTraxx in that it just WORKS. As long as you've set up your hardware and your codes correctly, it runs very dependably. You can run a whole video/lights show without ever touching it during your set. It's completely automated.
So here's what we have running (in order of operations):
- StageTraxx 3 on an iPAD 9
- Lighting Adapter to USB Midi cable to CME Midi Thru
- 5 PIN Midi to DMX Lighting Controller
- USB Midi to Macbook Pro running Visibox
- HDMI Out to Video Projector/TV
We set up every song to send timed midi commands to change the lighting scenes and video clips exactly when we want them sent. AND -- I SAVED THE BEST PART for last -- Visibox can even send a LIVE camera feed - so we set up the laptop as the "Drummer Cam" so it sent a video feed of the drummer to the screen for his huge drum solos. (he was so giddy.)
This clip shows some of the video moving in the background at our show.
Let me know if you have any questions! I'm not an expert but I've certainly taught myself a lot recently.
