Brainstorming about the version 4 user interface

Peter, thanks so much for all your hard work. I know my partner is longing for some sort of master and slave device functionality. I think he just wants st3 on Mac in a safe place on stage, by the desk, and wants to trigger stop play etc from front stage. The 5m usb c cables I’m using in to my x air seem a bit dodgy I’ve found.

I plan on adding some kind of remote functions. You will not be able to control everything. But starting / stopping playback, controlling audio regions and selecting songs within a playlist will hopefully be possible. More than that will most likely not be possible.

An alternative that already works is to use a remote desktop app like Duet to control your Macbook from an iPad on stage.

Hi Peter.

I’m not a Mac user, but stage tracks works really well with rtp midi over Wi-Fi on my windows laptop. I embed the prg changes in lyrics, and my software receives the commands over Wi-Fi. This is much better than trying to cope with a rather limited 5m Usb c to printer type cable in to my x air.

I think the idea of having slave and master iPads without any Mac’s or laptops would go down well with users too. So I wish you the best of luck with version 4.

Hi all.
just moved to stage traxx from a multi track logic session, much simpler on stage that trying to control a remote laptop to play backing tracks.
heads up for anyone needing remote midi, I control my buddies and my floor pedals via bluetooth midi using a widi thru box, so far been working great,
Loving have all the controls and time stamping lyrics.
apologies if someone has already mentioned this.

as for V4, I would love the lyrics to highlight and scroll up smoothly but its not a game changer.
Defo has to work on my phone, thats my backup if my iPads burns on stage.
This app is very good.

I think he means what I’ve been pointing out for years , improving the scrolling and highlighting of synced lyrics , the movement to be smoother and and preemptive so the new lyric line is actually ready for you prior to the timestamp not after.
This would save you having to learn to hit the timestamp early so the movement works on stage better.

Hi all, I have another suggestion in regard to v4.x

I’m now doing a lot of midi calls in my songs as all my lighting changes are done from midi-DMX and very successfully so.

However, my lyrics are now very difficult to do as some of the strings of midi commands are massive and often repetitive plus very open to making silly mistakes when entering. Plus they are difficult to identify further in the song.

Is there any way that a definition or string substitution could be incorporated. A little like a #define statement in C++. I.e at the beginning of the lyrics used a define so a single word could be used to substitute a string something like this:

[#DEFINE red_light=midi: CC1.127@1, CC2.0@1, CC3.0@1]
[#DEFINE green_light=midi: CC1.0@1, CC2.127@1, CC3.0@1]
[#DEFINE blue_light=midi: CC1.0@1, CC2.0@1, CC3.127@1]
[#DEFINE white_light=midi: CC1.127@1, CC2.127@1, CC3.127@1]
[#DEFINE chorus=“Do you believe, that clear white light”

Lyrics…..
[red_light@00:05.00]
More lyrics…..
[white_light@00:20.10]
Yet more lyrics …..
[red_light@01:01.30]
[chorus]

Etc.

Or something along those lines where the name and the string are something I define and are merely a string substitution

Beejaywh I already thought about something like that. But this is definitely not coming in 4.0. Maybe later.

musicadi I will give an update about version 4 and my schedule tomorrow.

peetlett Most likely it will be in 4.0 but there will be limitations. The most important is that you will only be able to send the midi file to a single midi output. It will not be possible to send it to all midi outputs.

peter I'm really hoping the MIDI file player is a part of ST4. I want to use an iPhone as the brain of my guitar pedalboard with ST changing all my pedal presets, plus automating parameters via CCs. It would be so much easier if I could program all the MIDI stuff in my DAW and simply drop it into ST as a .mid file, because I want to do some pretty intricate automating by ramping CCs up and down per pedal.
