  • Tip: USB Stick support in iOS13

Just to let you know: iOS13 has full support for USB sticks. You can access them through the Files app. ST3 can fully utilize this feature. That means you can restore backups or import songs from USB sticks. This might be the quickest way to transfer large libraries between devices.

If you get a message that a stick needs too much power to use, you can connect a powered USB hub between your iOS device and the stick.

I tried lots of different sticks and got all to work through the powered hub.

USB sticks with lightning connector ? :-o
Have I missed something ??

AlanC76 You need to purchase a Apple Camera Kit or Lightining to USB adapter.
As Peter says one that supports USB charging.Cheers Barry

No, I am using the camera connection kit, connect that to a powered usb hub and then plug the stick into the usb hub.

Not really sure about the powered hub thing...😕
would one of these work ?
    Thanks !

No idea. If the say that it is compatible with iOS devices, it should work.

AlanC76 I’m using Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter which allows you to connect usb stick plus power it at the same time using your iPad charger.
      Hope this helps

Is it possible to move the st3 backup off the iPad to a USB stick or just make a copy?
Also does ST2 still work normally on iOS 13?

JonathanS that’s what we’ve been discussing Jon 😃
Im going to try with a usb stick as posted above. Has to be adapted to the Apple lightning connector.
did you read my reply to your post on FB this morning ?

JonathanS Yes, you can move backups via the Files app. I guess I will add feature for version 3.1 where you can specify the location where the backup is created. This now makes sense. That way you could create the backup directly on the usb stick and it would take no storage away from your iPad.

Regarding iOS13 and ST2: At least one user had problems with USB audio in ST2 on iOS13.

peter great! I picked up a new iPhone yesterday and also a new camera connector to use at home which is probably where I will do much of this transferring.

Finally bought a cheap stick from amazon, 32Gb at 21€
It’s no faster than via iTunes but more convenient but a wee bit complicated to understand at first... Needs a dedicated app. The files go there first then you transfer to the stick.
Most important, it must be reformatted to exFAT to handle files more than 2Gb (my backup files weigh in at 7.4 Gb )

Great findings. The exFAT is the most important bit I guess.

Regarding speed: USB sticks might be a bit slow when writing, but reading should be much faster than iTunes.

Hi peter where can I get the files app to use with the usb to lightning camera kit??
            best Wishes

It is a standard app part of iOS and installed on every iOS device.

So when I want to copy the files from my usb to my iPad where do I send them to?? And how do I put them in my stagetraxx playlist??

You copy them to the app folder Stage Traxx 3 and refresh the song list (pull down the list).
