  • Hoping and Praying for a Global Font Size Feature

Hello -- Peter, as always, I love nearly everything about Stage Traxx and can't live without it. There's one feature I'm begging for pretty pretty please because this is eating up an incredible amount of my time. I run several different devices that all need their own lyrics specifically their own SIZE for the lyrics (for example, one of my devices is displaying on a large video screen, so I have to set ALL the lyrics on that device to 90 PT.) However, I tend to make all my major changes/additions to songs on my Macbook then save as a Backup and restore to my other two device (macMini, iPads, iPhone). From there I have to go through each and every song and reset the font size for that particular device, multiply that times every different device I use. I have not found anyway just to set a global font size for each device, but I need that feature terribly. Any chance this could be included in an update, or maybe just maybe it's hiding somewhere in here that I've never noticed before?

Please and thank you.

Lishy This is unfortunately not the solution. The font size multiplier only goes up 2x for lists and 4x for the device setting (when going from an iPhone screen to a giant monitor, 2-4x is nothing.) And the "default font size" as you mentioned, only works on new songs being added, not the 100 songs I already have. And because I update them on one device and then send them to the new device during a backup restore, the font sizes I originally set get overridden. So once again, I have to go through a hundred songs and reset the font size on each device during every backup/restore job.

Just a thing that I used to do years ago when ST was unavailable was to take a pen and paper and write down the lyrics of a song. I never forgot them after doing that. I have thousands of song lyrics in my head that I don’t need to even think about when I’m playing.

HughB I wish I had your memory, I use to remember all my lyrics when I was younger then I made a fatal mistake of writing down the lyrics and using paper cheat sheets on stage, that was a big mistake , my brain cells got lazy and now I am regretting it, ST3 is my life saver , so to all you youngsters, don’t use text feature if you can avoid it , train your brain to remember your lyrics and chords if you can you will be better of in the long run.
That was a little bit of suck egg information which most youngsters will ignore 😂 but that’s all right ST3 has got you covered .
        Cheers Damir

What do you mean by that? Do you use an external screen to display lyrics? What is the standard font size you use?

peter Hi Peter -- Yes, for the Stage "Confidence Monitor" I use a MacMini connected to an external 32" monitor (from behind it looks like a standard monitor wedge -- only I can see the lyrics/cues on stage.) This device is joining the "Host" session that our drummer is running from the main Host iPad.

On the "Host" iPad, the lyrics are set to 27 point, which fits nicely. On the stage monitor, however, I have to set them up to 90 pt for me to be able to see them. When I tried just setting the "Device Modifier" on the MacMini/External Monitor it falls very far short. I really do need all the lyrics on the Macbook/Confidence Monitor to display at 90 pt font (I'm older and half blind.) Those lyrics also contain stage cues and reminders that other devices don't need, so they really need to be their own separate set of lyrics.

Every single time we have to make changes to our songs, I restore the backup to each of my devices, but then I have to reset the font sizes on every single song. I just had to do this whole exercise for nearly 100 songs when I converted everything from single track to Multi-Track. And now that we're getting even more Multi-Track options, I'll have to do it all over again. I'm constantly making improvements and upgrades to our songs so I have to send new backups to my devices VERY often. It would just be so much less stressful to have a way to change the Global font size (at least on the entire playlist).

ginacc So you basically need a bigger range for the device size modifiers? What range would work for you?

peter I think that would work! I'm honestly not sure how big of a range but I know 4x doesn't seem to make a huge difference, so maybe 10x? Thank you!

Really? So if your base font size on the iPad is 27 points, that would mean a font size of 270? What resolution are you running your screen with? And why not enable the screen scaling option in macOS?

peter Yeah I agree, that multiplier does seem strange, and I had the same thoughts as you about doing the math, but when I first tried setting the 27 pt font up to 4x, it didn't seem to make much of a difference at all. I thought maybe it wasn't doing a true multiplication. I tried a few different sizes and they also didn't work, so I came here. But then last night I decided just to shut everything down and try it again, and low-and-behold the font device multiplier made a HUGE difference. I don't know why it wasn't working any other time I tried it - but this seems to work just fine now. So case closed! Thanks!
