Backup Restore Failed

I hope someone can help me.

I made a full backup on my iPad and saved it to a USB drive. I went to restore this backup on my iPhone and it failed with the following message:

Unexpected Error
Unresolved error
Zip.ZipError.unzipFail, [:]

Because it was a backup restore it wiped the the entire library from my phone before it began the restore function.
I tried to restore the backup on my iPad and the same thing happened and now my iPad is wiped as well.

Hours of MIDI programming are lost unless I can find a way to restore the backup file.

Any help would be appreciated.

I should also mention that the external drive being used was formatted as exFAT on a PC. I was able to read and write files on the external drive with the iPad no problem but could that be a factor in why the backup is failing to restore?

I was able to get everything back to normal by restoring my iPad from yesterday's backup. Very relieved ST3 is back where it was before it got wiped.

I would like to know why the backup from external drive is failing though.

For now I will backup ST3 to Dropbox instead.

Last follow up.

After getting the entire iPad restored from last night's iCloud backup I then made a new ST3 full backup and saved it to my external drive. I noticed this backup was a little larger than the one that was failing. Restored the new backup to my phone and it worked fine. So the previous backup was corrupted somehow. Crisis averted.

Not sure if this would be possible to change with ST3 but maybe it would be good to have ST3 verify the integrity of a full backup before wiping the device clear and attempting to restore that backup.

Most likely the backup file has not been fully copied to the usb drive when you disconnected it. This is not something that ST3 can control. Writing files to a file system always involves caching by the operating system. So when iOS tells ST3 that the file has been written, it means only that the file is fully transferred to the caches which in fact can take quite a bit longer to commit to the usb drive.

Hansenhaus i back my backup file on the ipad then transfer a copy using iTunes to my window's laptop. then just to be on the safe side i then put a copy on my external USB SSC drive . and just get them back through ITunes if i need to
