ICLOUD SYNC ?

peter so far I tried everything and nothing works to get two devices in sync , at one stage I almost succeeded I was about 28 songs short on the other device but could not get them identical, I also tried editing loop names of a song on one device the other did not make the change , it’s like the iCloud is not actually working properly.
I have totally deleted the apps on both devices and the iCloud file, reinstalled the apps with everything blank enabled iCloud on both installed a full backup on one and watched the process the files that get loaded in to the device then slowly transfer to iCloud but then when I see the other device it does not sync up to my original device something goes wrong and then I can’t force it to sync up to my other device, I also tried it the other way from my iMac to the iPhone and still the same result , it’s like the devices are not talking to each other through iCloud properly.
Not once have I had a perfect sync on any of the three devices, I have the latest software on all 3,
It should not be that difficult to activate iCloud sync and get it working, I can’t think of any more ways to try it, I’m out of bullets 😵‍💫😂
Any suggestions? Anyone
It’s almost like in the beginning iCloud worked to some degree better before than now.

Ha! 🤣I tried that last night woke up this morning and iCloud is still as stubborn as a mule , I started fresh yesterday reinstalled st3 on iMac , deleted iCloud, full backup installed , synced to iCloud , this process seems to work and all was well I had 2646 songs on iMac, I assume there are 2646 songs on iCloud, this is what is badly missing on ST3 a file count that’s in iCloud and a file count that’s on the device side by side displayed in real time so the user knows exactly what is going on. So anyway before my drinking session last night I then full deleted my ST3 on iPhone and installed it again then I turned the iCloud on and went to bed , this morning not one song has shown up on iPhone, so then I pressed update and sync to iCloud, so far nothing is happening again, I think there is a spanner in the works that needs removal.

peter I also see lots of throttling messages from iCloud. I guess you simply have too many files.

Hi Peter, I rang Apple support, and will see if they can assist as it might be my iCloud service .
Will report after checking my setup.

After speaking with Apple we cleared space on the iCloud now I have 150gb available from 200 gb iCloud, so I went to my iPhone that has no data on it and selected update and iCloud sync now this is what I got.

I still don’t know what this error 2 is?
It must be why I can’t get iCloud to work.

Error code 2 means that some of the requests failed on the iCloud side. But looking at your logfile you sent me, I only see a single error of this type after a restart of the app when it checked for any updates in the cloud so I would not worry about that. According to the log 2571 files have been successfully downloaded from the cloud and there was not a single throttling error.

If you ask me everything should be fine.

As nothing was happening on my iPhone i uninstalled ST3 then installed it again , then i turned on the iCloud and pressed the check updates and iCloud sync now, which now has activated an iCloud download , i have to wait for all the files to transfer, then i will compare the song count between IMac and the iPhone , i expect it to be the same , if not , then theres still an issue.If all files are present then i will do tests to see how well one device tracks the other.
But one step at a time

This morning I had a look at my iMac and iPhone to see how the iCloud sync went, the news is not great,

I started fresh on iMac with 2646 songs, by using iCloud I ended up with loss of songs on both devices, some how now I have 2616 songs on both but then on my iPhone 3 songs are still missing, so the question is , why have I lost 30 songs, and then why are 3 songs still missing on my iPhone yet they are available on my iMac?
Hitting sync now does not do anything yet they are out of sync with each other and where did my 30 unknown songs disappear to.

I am about to load a full restore in to iMac and see what happens then.
I also sent support emails at this strange stage of discovery.

To top it off I had a strange behaviour occur on iMac, where the stop button was in red stop mode while the player was already in stop , where it should be in green play indicating you can play now , after hitting it the logic corrected itself , I don’t use my iMac that much but it’s the first time I noticed this , has anyone else come across this ?
It might only show after using the software a certain way.
As I said I’m a magnet to bugs, this one surprised me and I wonder if I can make it happen again.
My main concern is iCloud.

Latest report, ICLOUD HAS NOT WORKED AS EXPECTED,

PETER I THINK ICLOUD NEEDS A GOOD LOOK AT ITSELF, IT IS NOT FUNCTIONING DUE TO LACK OF LOGICAL OPERATION,
Nothing seems to work as needed or expected,

I have tried everything in all different ways and nothing comes close to a workable solution.

I believe the problem is your logical thinking of how iCloud should operate.

My view is you either want it ON or OFF
That’s the iCloud switch in settings, if it’s OFF THEN YOU ARE RUNING SOLO DEVICE , if it’s ON THEN YOU ARE SYNCING TO THE ICLOUD,
It’s as simple as that.

Now iCloud becomes the MAIN SUPPLIER OF UPDATES WHEN YOU TURN ON ICLOUD ON ANY DEVICE , if you turn on iCloud on any device it means you existing data gets lost and a complete replication of the iCloud becomes your new operating surface,

ICloud can only be fully updated if you do a full restore with iCloud enabled at the time, so all previous data gets replaced with new updated full restore data,
If you do a full restore with iCloud OFF than this device gets fully restored to new update , if then you turn on iCloud on this device the data of iCloud and the device gets merged,

So to fully update iCloud and its data you need to have a device with iCloud ON AND DO A FULL RESTORE this means you want to completely update all devices using iCloud.

At this moment there is no order or logic to what is happening with iCloud , it seems to have no logic of operation, you don’t get correct results when using iCloud , it needs to have definite rules it obeys that actually work for the end user.

I want to use iCloud to sync up my devices so when I make a change on one all the other devices follow, at the moment I can’t get two devices to be exactly the same, not to mention stay in sync if I change a name of a loop section.

I need to see iCloud working in its basic form before I test the nitty gritty stuff.

How do I get an iMac and an iPhone to be exactly the same using iCloud?

After doing a complete full backup install on iMac it has created a dogs breakfast on my iPhone .

The problem is your logic is wrong of how iCloud should work.

I should be able to fully delete iCloud, then install a full backup to it then allow all other devices to sync to this full backup , at this moment this does not work.

Once that works we can then test other issues.

Sorry Damir, I give up in your case. I guess you simply have more files than iCloud can handle.

From the iCloud statistics I can see we have currently a 4 figure number of users creating about 50.000 to 100.000 operations in the Cloud datbase daily.

A couple of users had issues when joining an existing cloud with a device that contained data. This could then usually be resolved by restoring a backup. After that it seems you are the only one who is constantly struggling. And you are at the same time the one with by far the most data you want to sync. So the only assumption I can make from this is that iCloud is not able to handle the amount of data you have.

As much of iCloud is a black box for me as a developer, there is not much I can do about it.

So the bottom line: Maybe try with only a couple hundred songs by moving your DJ repertoire to another app. Then it might work reliably.

And give everything time. Syncing is not immediate. It can take a couple of seconds or even minutes for changes to move from one device to another. Often this is only visible after you change screens.

@Damir my advice is put your 380 backing tracks on your Stage Traxx

Use a dedicated player such as Virtual DJ for your background or DJ sets
Having 5,500 songs for background music or diverse cultural Dj sets/requests really is a DJ and hard drive scenario

It makes no sense to do it on Stage Traxx, you can’t even beat match or mix so why put all this effort and daily stress on yourself unnecessarily.

There are tools for each job,
I appreciate you’ve been around since the early days of the app and try to contribute to development, you are on every post in the forum,
But sometimes you have to take a different approach on things

Or alternatively just don’t use the iCloud option and use create backup and air drop to the devices and restore which I think you have been doing.

peter thanks Peter, I am really happy to hear iCloud is working for everyone , it must be my end that’s at fault,
I will try to thin down my library remove all multitrack test files and see how I go .
I had a gig last night with very intimate audience contact ST3 was pushed to limits and held out nicely , the search was a pain due to my old AirTurn stomp six which has to be replaced as it really does not make it easy to search quickly , I also wished I had a seperate lyrics screen setup so the audience could see the lyrics only, apart from that a number of people were also very impressed with ST3.

I agree there are dedicated tools for every job, but my DJ needs are very simple and ST3 is more than capable of meeting my needs for that , it’s also great as a librarian, so perhaps I will have to keep my performing iPad off the iCloud as you suggest and just have the songs I perform on all the other devices and sync them to iCloud so when I’m editing on any all will be updated for convenience then just transfer finished songs to the performance iPad.
I might consider updating all my devices as they are over 3 years old, perhaps that will also fix my issues, but I am happy to hear that iCloud is working for the majority.

Damir I use Spotify for background music, if there are requests I can easily add a song to the queue, if there’s WiFi, otherwise I add playlists and download the songs on Spotify and use it offline. You can run it simultaneously with ST3, in fact I use split screen on my iPad giving most of the screen to ST3 and a little to Spotify and that way I can press play on the playlist for the break as soon as it’s needed.

My personal side note on cloud sync is never never ever never ever. Do a full backup and airdrop (the fastest way of transferring files) this way your data is bulletproof safe and nothing can ever go missing, change or anything else could happen to your hard work of setting up.
It’s enough that somehow your iCloud payment doesn’t reflect (change of bank card - whatever) and your whole work can be flushed. I have very bad experience with Apple iCloud data going funny on me - photos and videos gone forever etc.
