SMALL FIXES AND TWEAKS

Hi Peter, I am about to head off to a gig and as I was fine tuning the latest version I noted a few little things I will point out and perhaps for you to tweak.

I like the repeat song capability , it just nicely completes the functionality of ST3, and the change to red indicator is great idea BUT when you are on iPhone in that perfect portrait mode you have no idea you are in repeat mode as the auto play button is still blue , you would benefit a lot by having this button also change to red when you are in repeat song mode.

I have also mentioned this before, I believe another 2 settings belong in USER INTERFACE, PLAYER VIEW, that would greatly benefit on stage performers, LEFT HAND / RIGHT HAND selection , and all it does is place the stop start button on the side that’s more convenient for users and also it shifts the song selection area to the opposite side, this then allows RIGHT hand users to not be blocking their lyrics while selecting next song and performing and the iPhone users using right one hand operation would be able to easily trigger start/stop with the thumb , as the button sits exactly where it needs to be.

The other setting option in the same area of settings is an option to have the loops area row to be selectable TOP / BOTTOM OF SCREEN when in bottom view it sits just above the STOP/ START button, the reasoning for this is you NEVER HIDE YOUR LYRICS WHILE SELECTING LOOPS this is most important when performing and changing loops by hand.

And lastly and again please give us an option to make loops solid colour I know you are probably working on it but I thought I would add it to my wish list as these few things are the only things left I can think of to improve on stage experience with the interface beeing as it is.

Damir not really sure how you would block the lyrics with your right hand whilst selecting next song or even if you did why that would be an issue as you wouldn’t need them until you pressed play and even then they would be at the top or in the middle of screen at worst anyway.

My iPad is mounted on my mic stand right in front of me slightly lower and angled so to audience it seems almost invisible, when I am performing a song with guitar in hands I use my right strumming hand to make quick changes , if I get a request as I am singing I try to select the next song as I am singing my right hand moves across the lyrics screen as I’m selecting things like new loop or the next song, if the loop section was lower on screen or the song selection section was on the right I would never block my lyrics , at the moment left hand operation is ok as the stop start button and song select screen is on left but the loops section is an issue for both left and right hand users.
It works now but it’s not as user friendly as it could be or should be.

Sounds more of a logistical set up issue than an app issue

How about using a boom stand and set it up to your right

Probably more visable and you can still use your right hand for changes

Hi guys, in the early stages of ST development we put a lot of effort designing the layout of ST3 and we ended up with what we have now as there were much more important things to concentrate on the layout was not really re-examined, now that ST3 has proven itself as a great on stage tool in so many ways it’s time to fix the little things that can be improved to make the software as good as it can be, I was greatly involved in its layout Peter having stage experience and programming capability has been a god send to all that make use of ST3 , but certain things could be greatly improved by simply allowing us the flexibility of the layout,
When I run with foot remotes I don’t really care about the precise layout as it’s fine the way it is, but you also have to consider other users that don’t use remotes and actually touch their device , then you have to consider which device, iPhone right handed users would definitely benefit having the play stop button on the right side as the thumb is perfectly placed to control this very important button one handed , and also the mix and loop buttons are great where they are, but for left hand users the mix loop buttons would be easier to use if they were on the left side where the play stop button already is,
Looking at iPad and its placement and layout,
I don’t like having ugly boom arms and anything that looks clunky on my mic stand as I am the main attraction when performing, having a guitar on me already separates me from the audience i don’t need more clutter on my mic stand, so my solution is very simple a small clamp at the end of my boom arm which is lowered to the point when I angle it I see the iPad clearly with no boom arm sitting in the middle of the view as it’s on top of my boom arm so I have perfect clear vision and all the audience see is the narrow edge of the iPad , so the iPad is at arms length away from me at a lower height but I don’t have to crouch to make changes , this position of iPad is the best for people using mic stand, years of trying everything else has led me to this placement position , so then the issue is if I use my right hand to change next song my hand sits perfectly in front of my lyrics now this can be totally avoided by having the song list on the side that the hand comes in , keeping the lyrics screen in view at all times , having the stop start on the side that the hand comes in would also greatly improve operation ,
But the biggest problem is when using loop selection, no matter which hand is used the central area of iPad is blocked, and if you are in the middle of a complicated Lyric , and having to select a loop creates a problem, this can be easily avoided by dropping down the loop waveform area to the bottom of the lyrics screen so as you make changes to loops the lyrics are always in view to be able to sing and make changes on the run.
Now I hope this make more logical sense to you.

I am always for choice options and flexibility. Perhaps we could think of the ST3 default screen as a “Dashboard” and move optional “modules” (like waveform editor etc) into particular areas of the iPad screen when needed. We all know that there is a very finite amount of space on the iPad screen.
