Chord Format

Hi Peter, is there a published list of recognised chord formats that ST3 recognises please? I have a few lyrics that don’t highlight some of the chord lines and it’s not always logical to me which of the chords in the line are not being recognised as chords. I’ve had a look at ChordPro notation site but I’m not finding it very intuitive. I need to know the format for the likes of “add9” or “flat5” chords. Hopefully you can help me fast track resolving this issue. Thanks.

add9 is recognized. A flat5 (in minor) is generally a dminished chord if you play it without a 7. So just use "dim". If you play it with a seven you could also write 7b5.

Version 3.7 will have a bit more generic rules for chord extensions. In that version you will also be able to write the flat 5 with a major third as b5. For example Cb5. Although I think that writing that as C7b5 is a bit more clear as the b could also be a modifier for the C.

peter Can the software/system allow for certain agreed words, such as Hold, Pause, Sustain or Stop to be included with chords? These would be so useful, not all words, just an appropriate selection.

No, because internally a thing called "Regular Expression" is used to detect chords and that thing breaks very easily. So allowing to extend it with user defined input is not possible.

But I have something else implemented last minute for the final version 3.7: If you start a line with the character ` the rest of the line will be displayed as a chord no matter what you write. Only downside: this works on whole lines. You can not use it within a chord tag.
