  • Unable to share backup from iPad 2

Dropbox changed their API in early 2018 if I remember correctly. Apps older than that can no longer access Dropbox. So you will not be able to upload directly to Dropbox.

What you can do though is to use iTunes filesharing to move the backup to your new iPad.

Hi Peter
Many thanks for your prompt reply.
Not sure how I do that but I’ll look it up, good to know there’s a way it can be done.
Regards

Just connect your device to iTunes, select it in iTunes and then you have a file sharing item on the left hand side of the window.

Top man Peter thanks so much

Hi Peter
I have successfully migrated from iPad 2 to iPad 3 using the method you suggested ie file sharing.
I am however missing lots of tracks in ST3 after restoring the back up ?
I have repeated the process a couple of times and even reinstalled ST3 just in case there were issues with the download.
I have also synced with iTunes to ensure all tracks are there and available.
They are showing and playing in ST2 yet missing in ST3 apart from the lyrics are there but not the audio.
Ive tried to add the said tracks using the + method in songs from the source path and yet nothing happens?
Sorry to be a nuisance but any clues as to why this is happening and a solution please .
best regards

Are these maybe local files? Did you import some track from Dropbox in version 2? Please check in the song details in version 2 of one of the tracks that is missing in version 3. It will say if it is a local file.

In that case you need to copy them into the Stage Traxx 3 folder (again via iTunes filesharing) and then restore the backup again.

Hi Peter
Once again thanks for your time, I can’t imagine how many enquires you’re getting lately .
All file locations state iTunes, not local, so the plot thickens. ?
This is why I synced everything again to be certain I wasn’t missing anything.
I have only ever used iTunes to add tracks to ST2 not Dropbox?
I don’t mind so much them missing but it seems I can’t replace them either which is confusing.
regards

Lodgie after you sync to iTunes and have your tracks on your iPad, are you importing them into ST3 from the songs window?

    Coopdawg
Hi coopdawg I’ve copied the latest backup using iTunes file share from ST2 and saved in Dropbox, then done a restore backup in settings in ST3.
Prior to this I’ve re synced ST2 to iTunes to ensure all tracks are available, they play in ST2 but show as missing in ST3.
There are around 20 missing tracks out of 400, some will replace using add songs from the songs window others won’t .. ?
I’d appreciate any suggestions you can throw my way
    cheers

Lodgie if it’s any help, when I loaded my iTunes library on my iPad into ST3 it blocked on a song and wouldn’t load any other songs. Peter checked the song and it had a faulty segment. Oddly enough it would play in iTunes and ST3.
If you can identify the songs missing, maybe check them (ask Peter what app he used ) and see if they can be repaired.
Otherwise, maybe you can download them again if you bought them online ?

Lodgie I have another suspicion. Could it be that some of your songs don't have title and artist tags set? In that case moving to a new iPad will always make them show up as missing as Stage Traxx can only try to locate them in the media library by their title and artist. And if these tags are missing, it will fail.

          Hi Alan
Probably unrelated but all the tracks missing are of the same artist (Michael Buble).
Luckily, relatively it wasn’t too many.
          I appreciate your input.
          regards

          Hi Peter
Sounds more likely, given that all the missing tracks are related by the same artist.
I have had some success in reinstalling them and adding them to the relevant playlists.
          Many thanks
