What a terrible app
- Edited
Also, why do songs get removed from the queue after they’ve been played? I don’t get this at all. If I do manage to play all the songs in the cue, I have to rebuild that queue all over again. It would be ok if there was a way to add all songs in a playlist to the queue but then, why do you even need the queue? It’s already in a playlist. Why can’t we just play it in the playlist? The more I explore this app, the more perplexed I am as to why we even need the queue. For me and my uses, it serves no purpose at all. Sorry, @peter.

SoloGuy Also, why do songs get removed from the queue after they’ve been played?
A queue is a waiting list for songs waiting to be played. The topmost song is always played. It's like when you are waiting in line on the supermarket. Only the first customer is served. Once it is you have been served you leave the supermarket. Same in the queue. Once a song has been played, it is removed.
SoloGuy If I do manage to play all the songs in the cue, I have to rebuild that queue all over again.
That's what playlists are for. The queue is a living thing. The playlist is something prepared that does not change. When you add a playlist to the queue and make changes to it, they don't affect the playlist.

Did you see the play button at the right hand side of each playlist? It will load this playlist into the queue.
But whatever, after a long weekend coding, I have implemented about 80% of the old playlist based workflow. You can choose in the settings whether you want the old playlist based workflow or the new queue based and then the app changes behavior. What I need to complete now is the remote control code for pedal based operation. But I am confident that I can submit the new version at the end of the week.
I do love the alphabet letters to the right in the Songlist! Very handy for finding the song you want and I wish it were on the Playlist... and the Queue!
Guys Peter is on the ball with a solution for the ST2 versus ST3 work around.
But I will say it for the last time I have been gigging with ST3 in a setup I use which operates
the same in every way as ST2.
Not that it will matter anymore once the update comes.
Over and out.
SoloGuy That's not possible because neither playlists nor the queue are sorted alphabetically. An alphabetical index without sorting makes absolutely no sense.
SoloGuy Double Tap to Enqueue is disabled. It still adds it to the queue and I have to go to the queue to play it... after double tapping it in the queue, of course.
Oh, you want to select a song and it should play right away? If yes, select Top as the Default Queue Add Position.
SoloGuy maybe we are saying that because you are complaining about something that that some of us also complained about and then found a way to make it work? Maybe you should just read carefully what we are writing and TEST it.
There is a setting called “Default queue add position”. Set that to “Top”. This way, every time you tap a song, it will be added to the top of the queue and you only have to tap Play. So, actually you need only two taps to play a song. In ST2 your playlist was loaded automatically and you hit play to play the FIRST song, but if you wanted to play the second song, you also needed two taps.
When you open ST3, the Songs window will open, where you have all your songs. There, just tap the song you want to start with, then hit play. The lyrics window will open, with the list on the left. There, tap on the Songs tab and you’re all set. Now you can just tap any song you like and that will come next in line, so when your actual song stops, all you gave to do is tap Play.
Like I said, it just needs another approach.
I guess Peter could add an option where you can select which tab will be active as soon as the lyrics window opens: Queue, Playlists, A specific playlist or Songs.

This is indeed something I am thinking about but I would like to make the tabs consistent. So wherever you are when the player is closed will be when the player opens and vice versa. But I have some technical problems to solve if you are inside a playlist. So I need a bit more time for this. I guess I will add it in version 3.1.
musicadi That’s great news! Will this be a beta version?
No, because I have not setup a beta app yet and I don't want confusion when in app purchases are gone because you upgrade your official version with a beta version and the other way around. I will release it without a beta this time. Implementation is now finished, but I need to do more testing. If everything goes well, I will send it tomorrow to Apple for approval.
peter so will the queue become optional in this version ?
i really need it to be as close as possible to V2.
I try to avoid touching the screen at any time with often hundreds of folk out there watching me. The iPad has to be as insignificant as my mic stand !
once set up I follow the playlist I’ve put together prior to the gig and trigger with a Bluetooth foot switch.
pity I missed out on the beta testing this time Peter (for V3) ... never had the invitation !
Looking forward to the next installment
thanks again.

Yes. You touch a song and it will be armed for playback or setup as the next song (if playback is running). Just like in version 2. Added benefit is that you can also play songs from the songlist which was not possible in v2 as there was no song list. If you don't touch anything you will progress through the playlist or songlist until the end and then start over from the beginning. Pedal commands are also the same so that you don't need the additional trigger pedal. Just up and down to move through the list.
The queue is still there working in the background but handled automatically by the app. You don't need to worry about it. The enqueue functions are also removed. It will be like a "light" operation mode. Less options but also less possibility of confusion.
Of course you can switch the queue functionality back on and then everything is the way it is right now in v3.
Right now I'm not sure which mode should be default. It might make sense to have the easy mode the default but then everyone who has v3 already running would have a different usability after the update. That's a difficult decision.

The invitation was here in the forum. The big thread with over 500 messages.
I’ve got to say I used ST3 last night onstage for the first time, I played with it during beta but never gigged it.
I love the queue system, my playlists are all well and good, but being able to change the list on the fly, with a live queue system is brilliant
each to their own, but i’ll Be keeping the system as is, don’t need the option for ST2 type workflow
also think some of the criticism on this thread was a bit over the top... they guy is doing a decent job, he’s grafting hard... and I don’t see others Releasing an app.
Treyjax also think some of the criticism on this thread was a bit over the top...
Quite agree ! Even the title is insulting. It’s NOT a terrible app but an excellent app that just doesn’t suit us all as it is now.
But we’re lucky to have a serious guy like Peter who’s willing to do extra hard work to make his clients happy.
FWIW, in French we use “terrible” ironically meaning “amazing” !
