Any other HX Stomp users here using midi?

Let’s collaborate - I have some questions on how you guys are using midi.

Here are my midi calls for every song. This is just an example as each song will have a different patch.

[midi: PC0@5, CC71.0@5, CC49.127@5, CC50.127@5]

Change to a patch (in this case, patch 0)
Set to the mode that I need (in this case, stomp mode)
Turn off foot switch 1 (even if it’s already off - just a reset)
Turn off foot switch 2 (even if it’s already off - just a reset)

Does this seem right? Overkill?

I’m new to midi and want to make sure I’m doing things right.

jmhenry5150 Are you sending that midi message all in one go when the song loads? I initially thought those CC changes were the different snapshots you use within that preset but then you mention being in stomp mode, so what are they for? In short you shouldn't have to do any of those steps as the midi PC command will change to the patch you want and if you are in stomp mode from the off then you shouldn't need to do this for each song. If you just use stomp mode then you should just need the PC changes at the beginning of each song and then 'stomp' away as needed throughout the song. I'm not sure you need to worry about steps 3&4 if they already off.
I'm not sure if you play to a click but if you do you could use snapshots and have timed midi messages sent so it could do it all for you during the song.

So my thinking is...and follow along if you can 🙂

When I load a new song, I would like everything to switch and reset as if brand new. This is so I can visually see that everything is right so that I can start a song. I'm a worry wart and always thinking something could go wrong...like the correct patch didn't load or a the wrong footswitch has been activated, etc.

This way (in my head anyways), it should setup the song from new and be ready to go.

This is what I have encountered in this mystical midi journey:

Let's say I am on patch 3 and during the song I have midi select footswitch 1 for a lead boost at the end of a song. If the NEXT song that I want to play is also using patch 3 - I need to reset the footswitch 1 to off....right? So that's what those midi commands are doing.

Am I overkilling it?

jmhenry5150 So you do have timed midi messages changing your patch during the song then? I didn't think you could send midi CC messages to change your patch whilst in stomp mode? (I might be wrong though)

Why do you have so many CC changes for just a lead boost or am I missing something?
As long as all your midi message are correct nothing can really go wrong unless the app disconnects from your midi bluetooth (assuming that's what you use).

I have timed midi commands but they are very basic - this turns on footswitch 1:

Yes, this is my dilemma and need to test - I was hoping maybe someone has gone down this rabbit hole before me and could offer any advice / confirmation.

Lishy As long as all your midi message are correct nothing can really go wrong unless the app disconnects from your midi bluetooth (assuming that's what you use).

This is a big fear I have I guess....need to get more experience with it to gain confidence....I'll get there.

Sometimes I use snapshot mode - most of the time I use stomp mode, so it just depends on what the song calls for.

Again, it's just a reset for me for each song.

I can’t send midi command reliably to the HX Stomp.

I send these commands and sometimes it works as it’s supposed to - but other times it selects footswitches when it shouldn’t have and doesn’t select them when it should and I just can’t have it do that. I am at my wits end here.

Is there anyone else out there with an HX Stomp or even a Helix that can do this with me to verify I’m not crazy?

However, there’s more issues.

If say I am on patch 3, and I have set foot switch 1 to be active, if the song is changed to use the exact same patch, foot switch 1 will still be active. I need it to reset back to off.

I’m going insane.

jmhenry5150 in preferences within global settings is snapshot edits set to recall? if so it needs to be set to discard.

It was set to recall - I have changed it to discard but I don’t see any differences. It still acts wonky.

jmhenry5150 as in it doesn’t change back and stays in the same state as it was last left? Although I think that setting is for when jumping between snapshots but you’re staying on the same one.
