ahhh sorry - I think I have found it. there is an option to apply gain to file content I think may be the way to do it?

so just tried it and yes, it does actually modify the file to the gain settings found, but I have yet to try (dont have time at this moment as im heading to a gig), -- the gain tags are still with the files, so even although it has modified the actual track gain, im guessing that any file player that reads these tags, will then apply the gain reduction yet again? is it something you have experimented with yourself?

Yes, that's right. But you can easily remove these tags if you decide to apply the gain to the file. Btw, gain adjustments in mp3 files are reversible. The data itself is not changed. That's why you can only do this in mp3 files. Other file formats don't have this option.

Another update, ive decided to sandbox the files, scan all the gains etc, write the tags, then tell the app to actually apply the gain setting to the files, then remove the gain tags from the files. I think this is the best route to go with it. on another subject of it -- it doesn't allow applying of the gain to the files if they are not mp3. it wont allow me to do it to the wav versions 🙁 no big deal, just means having to run the mp3 all through the converter to wav (wav is used on my mixing desks hard drives as mp3 is not allowed/supported for direct file play back - x32, m32, wing)

Yeah, I know your pain. As a X32 user myself I also have a couple of playlists that need to be in wav and also need to match the sample rate of the desk. But foobar2000 (on Windows) can also do these conversions very quickly for you.

DaveT There is no way i would trust software to bulk manipulate my files, i spend time to perfect my files in a DAW then i double check it with my reference song and finally i run it through my PA and reference it to a number of my well used tracks that have proven themselves, then i store it to my ST3 which then gives me the ability to fine tune, but normally i don't need to, all my songs might have maximum of 3 db tweak and thats done on purpose as i want the backing to be slightly lower for a particular songs, but all my files are setup to sound the same and i should not have to use ST3 unless there is a specific need.
Sometimes doing things quickly ends up giving you more pain later and most likely on stage, it sounds and looks bad to the audience which is your customer.

DaveT Dave I'm completely new to St3 and in relation to gain if needed, I tend not to over complicate things, perhaps I'm way off the scale here, but I have played many shows now with St3 and if by chance I feel after I finish a song, and I felt the track could have done with a little more bass end I would just go into the equaliser setting there and then and nudge the bass up one notch, and just wait then for the next night on stage and sing that same track and I would in the end say that's fine now, let it alone
, but to be honest this I did 3 or 4 times to a few of my tracks, I don't think I would like to activate a process that will normalise all my track levels in one go, I much prefer to do it all manually, works for me, this is probably not what you want to hear...

Matt07ie this process does not adjust EQ settings, it's an overall gain level (volume/loudness) of the tracks. Storing settings within stagetraxx is not something that I do (such as gain and pitch etc), it's all done within isotope rx 10 and re imported into stage Traxx. I have put all my tracks into a sandbox, and applied the setting via the app Peter recommended, and so far everything sounds perfect. this weekend I will put them all onto a spare iPad and give them a run in a live situation, if im not happy then I can quickly go back to the standard iPad to continue the show.

Running all tracks through ReplayGain is a standard process for me. But I only add the tags to the files and don't change the volume directly. This will get me in the ballpark when importing into ST3 and minor tweaks afterwards are still possible but not always necessary.

Hi, it's so weird, I send Peter a message today about gain and he linked me to this thread.
I have created playlists, and added replay gain on Foobar2000, then imported into ST3.
I haven't done all ST3 songs yet, as there are so many...
Then import the gained file as a second track, then I look at the DB level and adjust it on the original in ST3, then delete the recent file.
Feels a bit time consuming, but maybe I'll do all in a batch when I have more time.
Some songs stay at 0, most change between +5 & +6.
Any other advice?

I never load a file to ST3 from anywhere without it being loaded in to my DAW first , I trim the beginnings and endings to be the same for all songs , instant start and allow for natural decay of ending sound then I apply a very fast fade out in last second of song to get rid of pops , then I get the song levels sorted by normalising the songs and sometimes limiting and compressing a bit just to get a good level without changing the dynamic range too much, I use one speaker system and consistent volume setting on my computer so my ears are the final judge I hardly never change my volume settings of my listening speakers so I can instantly hear if a song needs improvement in any way then you have your visual metering to confirm the end result , once I go through this early fast process I export to ST3 , I then know if all my settings on all my songs in ST3 are at zero I will get a very similar output level and then I can slightly tweak if necessary, the output of ST3 goes in to a nice Yamaha 10 channel mixer where the front trim is adjusted to bring all my levels from different sources to be the same then I choose to what goes wherever to suit my gig .
The point I am making if you just throw songs in to ST3 you will end up with a messy long job to fix things later , yes ST3 can adjust things to a certain point but I rather have all my files to be correct in the first place.

Not sure I understand your workflow, but if you want to add ReplayGain to songs after they have been imported, you only need to overwrite the audio file in the Stage Traxx 3 folder and then open the song details view and tap on the reload button in the navigation bar. The volume should then be set to the calculated replay gain value.

If you volume is at +5 or +6 you should mix your tracks louder as Stage Traxx can not boost the volume more than 6dB.

peter It’s too far down the line for me to do what’s recommended, as I have nearly 8 hours of backing tracks already in ST3. Would it be possible to include a ‘Normalise songs’, ‘drag-across’ slider, the same as per the current auto-play slider feature, in the ST4 version, end of next year, or whenever it comes out please Peter?

curlyboy777 ST3 is a player not an editor of audio , yes it has slight tweakability but you need to finelize your songs in a daw first even though they need no tweaking its good practice to double check your final audio files before you place them to ST3 folder, then you have a final little tweak there to fine tune if needed.
There is no easy fix if you dont do your homework properly in the first place.
Dont just download from websites and expect ST3 to fix things its not that sort of software.

You could analyse your files with ReplayGain anyway and as the gain values can be displayed in for example foobar2000, you could just manually adjust the volume to match the values from foobar.

I don't plan to add a replaygain implementation to Stage Traxx as that is too complex and there is no existing library for iOS that I could use.
