  • Roland SPD SX PRO as Audio Interface for Stage Traxx on iPad

I have a new Roland SPD SX PRO I would like to use as an audio interface for Stage Traxx.
So far I have used a MacBook Pro running MOTU Digital Performer with a MOTU Ultralite 8 in / 8 out audio interface, several midi modules running a combination of audio and midi tracks going from the audio interface into a FOH Mixer to back up a 5 piece band with all their instruments and vocalists.
I am ready to simplify and reduce the channel count of each song to a stereo audio track and a mono click track which will be routed to separate outputs on the Roland SPD SX PRO
My question is, if running Stage Traxx on an iPad with an apple camera adapter will the iPad (Air 3rd generation) recognize the Roland SPD SX Pro as the 12 in / 8 out audio interface it is.
The SPD SX PRO is using 48 kHz 24 bit audio files internally and I will dump about 100 stereo audio tracks into the unit with mono click track and have the iPad with Stage Traxx in tandem for the other 100 songs (also in the same 48 kHz/24bit format) which need lyrics displayed. This is the output routing I have in mind:
Roland typically uses drivers for their audio interfaces.

Not sure if that will work. I did not find any info about whether that device is iOS compatible. As you already own the SPD SX, why not test it with the free Stage Traxx 3 version?

I'll keep you posted . . . Liebe Grüße von Portland, Oregon

      a month later

Derfnam I plugged the SPD-SX Pro USB cable into the apple camera adapter (powered by a lighting adapter) which was plugged into the iPad and it is not supported. I assume there will be no driver for iPads for the SPD-SX Pro. Now I am thinking about using Stage Traxx with my MacBook Pro which has the Roland SPD-SX Pro driver installed

If I get the free Mac OS (Monterey) version for Stage Traxx and pay to register it, will this also authorize the iPad version to use with more than 6 songs or does Stage Tract for IOS require separate authorization (charge)?

The purchase is tied to your AppleID. So you can restore the purchase on any device running with your AppleID without any additional cost. It can even be shared with your Family.

If the SPD-SX is not class compliant, it will never work on iOS as there is no possibility to install drivers on iOS.
