MIDI from iPad to BOSS VE 500

Wondering if anyone has any experience/advice with sending a Program Change via MIDI from an iPad to a BOSS VE 500 Vocal Performer. What I would like to do is embed MIDI Program Changes in my charts so that the change is sent to the VE 500 to change my vocal effects. What interface would I need to accommodate MIDI out of my iPad to the VE 500? Thanks for any help/suggestions.

You would need either a USB to MIDI interface (this is the one I use: USB-C for my iPad Air 2022) or you could go the MIDI over Bluetooth route. Unfortunately the BOSS VE500 does not have a MIDI Out which is required to supply power for the CME WIDI master but you could use the CME WIDI jack which has a USB-C connector that you can connect a 5V power supply/charger to.

Philip, thank you for replying with your suggestion. You have given me a direction to go, and I will check out what is available here (I’m in Canada). I am not very technically minded, so I may have to pick your brain a bit more.

I'm a techie type but I'm still learning this MIDI stuff myself so we can learn together! I don't have a a VE500 but MIDI works mostly the same on any device that supports it.

Philip, I purchased DigitalLife USB to MIDI Interface that you suggested. However I can't seem to get it to work.
In my Chart I added the following line:
[midi@00:05.00: PC3@1]
My expectation was that at that point, my VoiceLive Touch 2 would switch to Program 3. It did nothing.
I confirmed that the VoiceLive Touch 2 is set as MIDI Channel 1;
I tried both the IN and the OUT cables into the VoiceLive Touch 2.
Any suggestions?

I currently do this with my setup. I use a cme widi jack. it trs mini to midi 7 pin into my ve500. I can send pc commands in the time coding of stagetrax lyrics and it works great. All my vocal patches change on play of new song and I never touch the pedal! very easy to setup. in addition my fm3 and sim1 are hooked up this way with st3 as the master for all patch changes during my shows.

derums13 I just setup Pretty much the same thing, iPad, Widi Jack, Boss ve-500, and stage traxx 3.
My question is, how do you know what number to use to do a CC Change. I’m just trying to turn fx1 and fx2 on and off but don’t know what number to use? I don’t see anything in the manual that talks about corresponding numbers for turning things within the current preset?

Kerry Join the boss ve-500 forum in facebook and in the downloads or file section someone has most likely posted a guide with all the midi call outs. it's a complex and horribly documented vocal pedal with good results... but you'll find either the document or the help you seek there.
