I Need user advice

Sorry I know this is an ST3 space but I wondered if some of you experts out there can give me experienced advice, I need to replace my JBL 18 subs as one has gone to heaven, I just recently purchased the DXR12 mkII 12” 2-way Active Loudspeakers and am thinking of perhaps getting the Yamaha subs to compliment to tops, should I consider other brand subs or stick with Yamaha as they might be better matched with the DCR12s and if so which should I go with to suit, the 12,15 or 18 subs.
I want to keep the system as portable and compact as possible without giving up too much of the bottom end, would the 12 inch subs work with the 12 inch tops to suit old crowd of 300 people or should I go 15 inch,
I don’t want to lug around power I don’t need most of the time.
Any experienced ideas of suggestions greatly appreciated.

If you buy subs from other brands only consider subs with a filtered output to the tops and then run the tops full range from the sub output. That way you don't need to worry about matching crossover frequencies on your tops with the sub.

I love the RCF brand which is very common in Europe. Don't know if you can get them in Australia, but if you do, check out the RCF 705AS II sub. Very lightweight with only 28kg and packs some serious punch.

peter will definitely have a look, we dont seem to have much stock of anything in shops these days, its all suppose to be bought electronically, i only trust my ears and people with previous experiance on a reputable site, thanks Peter im almost tempted to replace the pre amp on the JBL sub as i believe thats all thats kicked the bucket, but getting parts from an old device is like finding a gold nugget.
I was hoping some yamaha experts were gonna point me to either the 12 or 15 inch sub yammy to suit my 12 inch tops

hi Damir.i have the same system ie 2X DXR12,with 2 matching DXS15 subs.they are bit heavy but in my opinion you don't get a beefy noise without the weight.they sound AWESOME TOGETHER DUDE.we sometimes just use 2 tops alone for smaller gigs or use just one sub/2tops for medium venues.i use a Roland drum kit and I am the main vocals using backing tracks together with my guitarist for our duo.although we did use them for an eight piece jazz funk band all going through the FULL Yamaha DX system and they handled it all with ease.if I were a solo act I might possibly consider using 1 Bose 812 sub with the 2 DXR12,s.good luck in your quest mate.

Riddle great feedback, my large gigs are possably over and if i do have them i would hire a rig, what do you think of two 12 mark ii yammy subs to go with the two 12 dxr12 mark ii , as they are smaller and i would rather use them than two stands plus i would get ballsier sound, kill two birds with one stone, having two 12 subs is like havind one 24 inch sub cone space wise, power is not a real issue as most gigs are below 300 people mostly aged that dont like the extreme bootom shake rumble anyway.
What do you think? I just havent seen them in real life and have no clue to their capabilities, my jbl 18s were a smallest box you could get around an 18 sub with a 600w power amp possably peak having two of them did most of my gigs, these little yammies 12 s seem to have an 800rms rating which power wise will probbably shit on the jbls anyway and be a smaller package to carry around.
Am i thinking rationally?
Price wise they appear cheap but yammy has got a good reputation and quality with all products i have had from them in the past.
I need to fix my issue soon as i have a number of gigs comming up and ordering things here in Australia can take some time.

Riddle thanks, I bit the bullet and purchased the 12 inch Yamaha subs , they both fit in the back of my Kia Sportage and are easy to carry , sound wise they have more than enough power and when forced to handle the extreme low end sound very nice and tight so I am very happy with them so far but it’s early days time will tell , but I love their size they just make a great tops stand and just complete a full range system that is very compact yet can kick ass for most gigs, love it 😍
