  • Best ways to use a foot pedal

I'm still in the planning stages of choosing the right foot pedal... Thinking of going with the iRig Blueboard because it supports keyboard and midi, and also AA batteries (I think) which I prefer to rechargeables, as Airturn uses. Also, there's an Airturn stock shortage in Australia.

My question is how would you suggest using a 4-switch foot pedal as a one-man band, or would you really recommend something bigger?

My thinking is:

  • Start/Stop
  • Crossfade
  • Next Song Up
  • Next Song Down

I can't see how I could do without all these functions by going smaller—say with an iRig Blueturn 2-switch pedal.

MasterAnt not to mention volume and tempo that’s just as important if you want to keep you fingers off the device.
I use a combination 6 foot pedal switches and 6 hand remote switches on my guitar, and I could do with some more.
Once you have full remote control it’s hard to go back to 2 or 4 switches it just doesn’t make ST3 shine as bright on stage.

      Hi,
I recently purchased a cheap midi Bluetooth rechargeable pedal from eBay it has four pedals but can be toggle to using two pedals together, It Has an input for an expression pedal, it was very easy to set up. I have it doing start stop and with volume up and down at the moment but it could do Crossfade, next song, last song and so many more. When I get an expression pedal I will set up differently for song selection. The make is M-wave chocolate.

Damir I'm trying to not get addicted to having too much control 😆 😆 for the day that I don't have the luxury.

Because I make my own backtracks, all are well matched in volume, so adjusting that would then throw off my vocals and guitar volumes. Changing tempo live is something I still haven't tried. The idea is quite intriguing! Definitely when I can get hold of a hand-held remote, I will. Just wish someone could suggest something other than the Digit III...??

For years, on my old system, I only had two foot switches. One for pause and one to start the next song. Anything expanded on that is a bonus and is something I'm looking forward to having available.

I wonder if anyone's done anything wild and creative like using a pedal to enable/disable or change volume of the 2nd track of a multitrack song... I first tried this about 10-years ago. When playing electric guitar, I missed having the acoustic guitar in the track. I tried running the full track on left and acoustic guitar on right, then just had to pan them to get a mix. But that idea never stuck. In this day and age, I'm starting to use more backing vocals in my tracks. (In the old days, people would frown upon musos doing that!)

fendermanuk i'm all for cheap things that are of good quality. I'll look into that one now. Still looking for an alternative to the handheld remotes. I understand the need for volume up/down if buying backtracks as is; I can do without that and think moving the next-song selector would be better use of the other two.

Does ST3 respond to expression pedals as a controller?? 😕

ST3 does not support continuous controllers like an expression pedal. Please keep that in mind!

fendermanuk what you have is what I’m looking for what is the name of the Bluetooth pedal you have please

fwiw: a Good simple pedal I have used is the pageflip Cicada. Light, battery powered and its pretty ez to use. Look into that one.
