  • Files missing when syncing from source eg iTunes to stage tracks 3

Please help anyone I have recently moved over from stage Tracks Classic to StageTracks3
Ok I use iTunes to sync my playlists onto my iPad then I use the STAGE-TRACKS app,
How ever on weekend I downloaded a program to correct all my song volumes of my entire music library all my backing-tracks that I have purchased over 17 years as a solo artist.

Now when I’m syncing from iTunes playlists I’ve created as my source on my pc
I plug my iPad in or devices etc and sync, how ever let’s say for example my playlist one of has 45 songs in it
When it goes over to iPad or when I’m creating playlists in my STAGE-TRACKS 3 app the songs are missing files whilst creating playlists on the stage tracks app ?
I have checked my playlists and the music is in the playlists on iTunes yet it’s not coming over onto iPad or to stagetracks 3 app ?

Please help I need to get this up and running by this Friday to do my gigs
I have contacted support and sent a video direct

Kind regards

Neil C

What exactly do you mean by "sync"? Once you import a file from iTunes into ST3 you no longer need it in iTunes. ST3 has a local copy. And that also means any changes to that file in iTunes will be ignored by ST3.

If you see missing files in ST3 you have deleted these files from the ST3 folder on your iPad.

Hi Peter what I mean by syncing is connecting my iPad to my pc windows to ITunes
See this is where I keep all my playlists on iTunes
I’ve always done it this way.

Problem I’m having is files are not uploading to StageT3 ? I keep getting missing files

Thank you for your reply I sent you a direct email too

Version 3 no longer plays files from iTunes. So any changes to playlists in iTunes are not visible in ST3. Please take a look at my introduction video to see how to add songs to Stage Traxx: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTNrbxgmqPw

If this is not what you are looking for, please explain what you did to see missing files in ST3.

Hi Peter I watched this attached video introduction on Saturday.
Ok all I have done is exactly what I say in the first thread message that I created this post from.

I get file missing while I’m making a playlist in the ST3 app.

I have checked my iTunes playlists say there is 70 tracks in a playlist well only eg 30 are coming over to the new playlist I create onto ST3

I have read your post about 3 times and I don't understand what you are doing. I'm sorry.

When you create a playlist in ST3 and add songs to it. Only songs you have already imported in ST3 are available. So when you say your iTunes playlist contains 70 tracks and ST3 shows only 30 you need to go to "Songs" and add the missing 40 from iTunes.

If this is not what you are doing, you need to explain step by step what you do so that I can understand where the problem is.

Hi Peter sorry for the long reply, I have now found out that my files that was missing was not even on iTunes Player on my iPad, as you know they mirror each other so I have located all my files and restored them back to drive E that iTunes reads files from.

I’m waiting now to see if this as solved the problem.
        I will keep you posted.
I’m currently syncing iPad to iTunes dragging in all missing files.

I will then start from scratch delete everything from ST3. Try that hopefully it will work. Fingers crossed thank you for your support.

NeilC When you open the Music app on the iPad can you see all your songs or only some of them? If they are there you need to carry out one more step… import the missing songs into ST3 (from within ST3). If not they haven’t transferred to the iPad.

NeilC Hi Neil, this is what I would do if I was in your shoes, but there are different ways, I like to keep things simple, as I don’t have great trust in software.
Find your actual files on your PC copy them all to a blank usb stick plug in your stick to the iPad with all your song files you have and copy them directly to the ST3 folder in your iPad .
Now you have everything you need within ST3, just select your songs you want in a playlist and create the playlist, this is making sure ST3 is then creating everything the way it’s meant to work , no confusion no missing files and then make a full backup, from then on you can sleep like a baby, cause everything is reliable , and backed up.
Using ITunes, Music, automated correction of volume software, I would not trust any of that, just get your raw files in to ST3 and then tweak from there. Have one audio file you trust and use that as a reference to setup or all your other files.
          Hope some of this helps.

Hi Jonathan, thank you for replying when I open iTunes on my iPad I now see all the songs.
Now after deleting ST3 and reinstalling it and starting again adding a playlist just to try it.
I’m still getting error message from ST3
            IMPORTING SONG FAILED 😞
            Failed to in-port song ?

            Damir

Hi Damir, thank you for your help and reply,
I have no way of directly connecting a usb stick to my iPad. All this happened after using a mp3 program to normalize all the levels on my tracks.
I’m gutted this as caused me tremendous stress I have gigs on this weekend and I’m trying so hard to get everything back to normal.

After deleting the ST3 app and reinstalling it I’m still getting Importing Song failed whilst I’m adding songs into ST3
            It’s frying my brain,
I may have to create a folder in my PC and then have iPad connect to pc and import from that folder directly
Then create playlists loading songs in individually.

I have already been on this since last Friday.
Spent few days trying to resolve my iTunes library
Basically after a update in iTunes, iTunes decided to drag in a old library hence where all this started from.

Thank you so much fir your advice and help

I’d there anyway of ST3 showing a list of songs or files it as failed to upload least that way I know what I need to look for to add or locate etc ?

I have just added songs to ST3 from a playlist of 603 songs. ST3 is only showing 484 songs imported??
              There is clearly something wrong.

NeilC thats basically what i was saying , get all the files you need in one spot like a folder so you know where they are on your PC, then some how transfer all these files from that folder to your ST3 folder on the ipad, now how you do that from a PC i am not sure, perhaps if you plug in your ipad to the PC if you need to use itunes/music to see the ipads ST3 folder, or perhaps even the download folder on ipad, just get it on your ipad then transfer to ST3 folder from there just create a playlist for your upcoming gig to get youself out of trouble, then from then on just use ST3 to create more playlists perhaps slightly tweak your files and if some files need more help export to your favourite DAW and import back to ST3 folder once you have retweaked it.

NeilC you need to actually locate the files, the playlist in itunes is just a list that points to files, if you have moved those files or renamed them they will not be available.
So track the files down and somehow transfer them to ST3 folder on ipad and say goodbie to itunes/music forever more, thank you lord.

                  Damir

Lol 😂 yes exactly the amount of times iTunes as destroyed my library and playlists I have lost count.
I restored all tracks from the bin iTunes must of put them in there ?? Wtf 😳

I’m having red out missing files now on my iPad using old Classic Stage Tracks I’ve used for years.
I recently this Saturday updated to ST3 it looks amazing 🤩 yet if only I could get my tracks to sync I’d be so happy God please help me Oh Lord
I need to fix this or I can’t put food on table or fuel in the car or money in bank to pay for the car help

Does anyone think that using a MP3 program to normalize my tracks to same levels may of destroyed them ?

I'm going to have to upset Peter and agree with NeilC.

If you read my post [(https://support.stagetraxx.com/d/914-retaining-a-song-in-a-playlist-after-updating-it/1)] I too have had the problem of files failing to import or importing with a time of 0, etc. It's not because you normalized the songs. I had these errors with MP3 files all the time so I tried going with M4A files but it started doing the same albeit less frequently.

@NeilC this happens when you import all the iTunes files in one go. I think you should avoid using iTunes as a go-between step. The problem with iTunes is the number of times you have to store a track. You need your source files on PC, then you have to load them into iTunes, then hope they sync correctly. Then you have to import them from iTunes into Stage Traxx.

There are other (maybe seemingly more difficult) ways to get the files into the iPad without iTunes or USB. The problem is, and I'll create a video to show it, even if you import over a network connection which is how I do it, or from iCloud, you will get the same problem if you are importing that many files in one go.

That's the problem. I believe from a programmatic point of view that it is an overload of the import process.

I didn't pursue this in my post because it was me against the world.

But there are ways that work around this, and that's what you have to do to put bread on the table.

I'd say the best way to get a large number of songs in without error is to copy them directly into the Stage Traxx 3 folder via Files app on your iPad.

Don't use ST3's import. That's where I believe the problem is. But, if you really want to do it that way, import songs in batches of 30.

Probably the easiest way to get them directly into the ST3 folder, as PC user, is to use OneDrive or DropBox. (I use an SMB network connection over WiFi, but that's not for everyone.) Put all your songs on the cloud. Then, link up access to whatever cloud you use in iPad's Files app. Then in files app, copy over all the songs into the Stage Traxx 3 folder, ie. "On My iPad". After that, go into ST3 and pull down the song list which will trigger a refresh and effectively import your songs..

MasterAnt love your work Ant, we are all fortunate Peter has created something thats been needed years ago for us performers what stands in our way is a crappy operating system that needs normal people to decide how it works and not highly skilled computer nerds that have no life experiance.

Completely agree with @MasterAnt. Ditch iTunes for song mangement if you can. As you are using Windows you still need it for file transfers but try to stick to iTunes Filesharing. Just drag and drop your mp3 Files via iTunes filesharing into Stage Traxx 3 and then refresh the song list in ST3: https://stagetraxx.com/user-guide/songs/#refresh-song-list

Be cautious with Dropbox. The iOS integration into the Files app is a bit buggy. Stage Traxx does often get notifications about finished downloads too early and that results in empty files being imported from Dropbox. iCloud Drive works much better and is way cheaper ($1 per month for 50GB storage).

Anyway, stick to transfering audio files directly. Putting them into iTunes first is an unnecessary additional step which will also downgrade audio quality as ST3 needs to transcode them during import from iTunes.

And regarding your missing song problem with ST2 after messing around with your iTunes library, please follow these guidelines: https://support.stagetraxx.com/d/500-missing-songs
