Hi Stagetraxx gang

I'm trying to use Stagetraxx in a way that allows me to start and stop playback using a foot controller so that playback is perfectly timed with a performance. The trouble is that there is a latency (I think about 50ms) with the play button. This throws out the timing, so for example if I'm playing a guitar intro (while Stagetraxx is paused), and then I hit play on the beat when the backing track is meant to start, the track actually starts playing slightly behind time. To avoid this I need to hit play slightly ahead of the beat, which makes it a bit tricky.

The latency is not in the foot controller - it's in the app itself because the delay is there when you hit play directly on the app. The play/pause icon actually seems to register the command without latency, it is just the playback of the audio that is slightly behind.

I have the buffer set to 256, start delay on 0.0 and am using a fast new iPad Pro.

Is there any way to eliminate that latency on the play command so that playback starts the instant I hit play?

Taylorburns Have you checked that start delay is set to zero in playback settings?
Actually that only puts a delay at start now that I think of it.
Il try it on my system and see if I have this same problem.
Other than that make sure you have the latest software and operating system.

Also some Bluetooth foot control systems have a software setting that can adjust the switches response time as well, so make sure this is set to fast response if there is a setting.

Thanks Damir. Start delay is set to zero, I’m using the latest operating system etc. and the foot switch is plugged into the iPad via usb. It’s not the foot switch because even if I press play directly on the iPad there is still a slight delay before the audio starts.

Yes, a slight delay is inevitable. I tried to get rid of it but that leads to out of sync playback with multitrack files and other issues. I'm afraid this is as fast as it gets at the moment. There might be an improvement with the next feature version where looping features will be introduced which need a different approach to playing back files. But I can't promise anything at the moment.

Taylorburns Hi Taylor, thanks for pointing that out it is something thats bugged me as well cause i use stop/start to pause throughout some songs, i always have put that down as a bluetooth thing as bluetooth has been well known to do this with midi controllers and thats why i never use bluetooth for that , but now that i have closely examined the issue its actually the ST3 STOP/START button itself that delays as you stop meaning you are out of time when you start, the start has also got a smaller delay but not as noticeable but the stop command is the culprit, and yes i preampt this as well so i try to hit the stop slightly early but after a few drinks it starts to get a bit loose.

No, the button is not the problem. The processing when you press the button or tap your pedal is the culprit.

peter yes i worded it as a muso user i gathered it was the system thats the issue, the end result its the stop start thats delayed i firstly put it down to bluetoth delay as i have had delay problems with in the past.
I can live with it but it would be nice if it was more responsive.
I like the new videos keep up the good work
