  • ST3 Freezing After Apparent Update

I used the ST3 for two gigs over the weekend and it was excellent as usual.

This evening on my iPad the ST3 button greyed out. It wouldn’t activate. I went to the App Store and clicked the button on there and ST3 fired up. Then I noticed one of my songs not playing correctly and appears to be freezing the app. If there has been an update it has upset my usually very stable app and is shaking my confidence in using it for live work.
PS
If I reboot the iPad it works for a couple of songs and then freezes again and wont actually play the song even though the green play button has been pressed.
Please help.

Does this always happen with the same song or is it just random?
Can you confirm you are running version 3.4.1 (visible on bottom of settings tab)?
Which iOS version are you running?
Do you have an audio interface connected?
What is the file format you use for your songs?

Should something like this happen you don't need to reboot your iPad. Just force quit the application by opening the task manager (double tap on home) and swipe the app to the top. This way you don't lose time during the reboot.

Would you be available for beta testing a possible fix on TestFlight?

It’s happening on all songs. I noticed that the lyrics don’t change to the newly selected song and the timeline sticks at where the previous song was paused to play the new song. New song selected, lyrics don’t change and the timeline doesn’t reset to zero.

How do I get into Testflight?

    No interface connected.
    Mp3 format.
Some mp3’s might have different sample rates etc but it’s never seemed to be an issue.

TomC OK, so you stop playback within a song, then select a new song. The song title in the player changes, but lyrics are not loaded and the waveform view does not switch to the new song. Is that correct so far?

Then when you press play the button changes to pause but nothing happens. Right?

What happens when you then select another song?

Would you be able to make a short movie of the situation? I guess that would help me understand better where exactly it fails.

I will publish a new version there today once I understand what is going on. From what you write, this might not be an audio issue but an issue with song selection.

    HI Peter
This is the problem - described above - that I have also. It seems that the selection of the next song goes to the Queue - but does not play. Then there is no delete option (RHS icon) in the queue mode and it stops the process of playing the next song etc . It also stops the queue from being cleared. It shows up as cleared - except for the top of the queue song. Butt when I go back to playlist it automatically replaces the playlist back in the queue.

I regret I do not have test flight and not sure how to upload a video onto this chat line

    regards
    Andy Longford

TestFlight is a small app from Apple. You can install it with this link on the iPad: https://testflight.apple.com/join/pq4xbzSq

You could just send me a video to suppport@stagetraxx.com.

So what you both have in common is that you are working in advanced queue mode? Is this right?

There has been indeed a change in this version that could maybe affect advanced queue mode. I will investigate into this direction.

Yes that works. Thank you. I think I know which of the changes in 3.4.1 might be responsible for this. Could you deactivate Advanced Queue Mode in Settings an see if song changes work fine in playlists and I the son list?

I played around with changing songs in advanced queue mode. Questions remains how to make it stuck. Once it is stuck the video shows nicely what is wrong but how did it get there? Did you maybe used a Crossfades or Autoplay before that point?

I remember trying out Autoplay before it went wrong.
There doesn’t seem to be any identifiable trigger point.
Just play the songs and it will lock up.

Advanced Queue mode wasn’t activated when I went into Settings

Thanks Andy for the video via email. So what happens when the problem is there is that part of the app thinks the playback is still running and therefore you can't delete for example the first track in the queue. The player thinks playback is stopped and therefore you can press the play button.

So this seems not to be related to the audio engine changes in version 3.4.1 but to something else. Still no idea how to reproduce the problem. If I don't succeed in reproducing the issue, I will take back some of the changes I made and publish this as beta version in a couple of hours.

Do you play the songs fully or abort after a couple of seconds and select the next song?

It has always been possible to abort a song and select another.

Ha, I think I managed to reproduce the problem!!! The app is stuck. Now I will try to make this happen in the debugger...
