Random song starts playing

I was using a set list that I created and at the end of a song, another song from a different playlist started to play. There was no way of stopping it and when I located the song it wasn’t playing on the stagetraxx app and I couldn’t play another song on my set list until it had finished.
No other apps were open and nothing was playing in the background.
This happened in the middle of a live show - does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? Or has it happened to anyone?

Samtfs what version of ST and operating system on which device?
I had similar issues years ago when MUSIC app would trigger in background and was hard to stop , but no recent problems in that respect.

Samtfs Sounds like you have selected a song from a different playlist to play next. I really need more details what you did exactly at that time and which queue settings you use.

Samtfs something close happened to me this weekend.

The next song start playing, even tho I pressed stop it kept going and once selected the song it wasn’t showing as “playing” like a ghost song…. But it stopped once I press stop for the second time.

And this scenario when the stop kind of freezes the playlist but keeps running happened 3 times, once at the end of each set.

Thank god the last song of each set is a 5 min blank song with only a metronome, so no audio goes out of the PA and I’m 100% sure that the playback is stopped “if I hear the metronome stop”

I use this so I can use the entire playlist or queue with all sets back to back…. The blank song is like a break separation.

So, to refresh…. I pressed stop and it kept running until pressed stop for a second time. (Not using the double press to stop) so is not that in case you are wondering. And the app sends audio but nothing is visually playing…. Weird

In my case a similar thing happened while at home setting up my next gig, I somehow ended up with now playing song playing but the visual highlight of the song disappeared until I chose it again and then it highlighted again , I have no idea what I did to cause this .
I wonder if it’s all related.

I suspect log files will be useful for Peter to determine what ST is playing, and when.
Don't forget, ST only keeps the last 3 days worth of logs so you need to log these issues via Support email in a timely fashion before logs are lost.

Send a support email (if you haven't already) and ensure you confirm:

what time the issue occurred
what song was playing that should not have been playing.
any other key information relating to how you are triggering song start (pressing Play button in UI, MIDI trigger, Assignable button, etc.), queue settings, etc.

Logs can be helpful. But logs don't show user actions. The app does not log when you tap on a song. So I would be able to see when something starts playing but not why it starts playing.

peter ok, so I managed to reproduce the problem all the time.

I guess the bug or the problem has something to do with the change in between songs. Or maybe crossfading them. Let me explain exactly when it happens.

I have divide all my songs into audio regions, and the last audio region is called “End” and it starts in the last hit or chord of a song, since we play with metronome, it cues the last hit…. End 1-2-3-4 … and we play the last chord.

So, the problem happens ONLY if I press stop in that last audio region, maybe even more in the later part on the “ End audio region”. The playback shows that the button stooped, so instead of showing “pause” is showing “play” you know? But it cues the next song and starts it… even when everything is stopped, and the app doesn’t change the song visually, the next song starts the audio but it stays in the previous one.

So, you press stop again, opens the song actually playing, and nothing else happens, and once you press stop for a 3rd time it actually stops.

See if you can replicate it Peter. If not, I can record a video and send it. @peter

Is your last region shorter than 7 seconds?

To summarize: You don't have autoplay active. But when you press stop in the last 7 seconds of a song, it does not stop? I can't reproduce that.

peter Yes, is 5 sec long. But if I press stop in the first 75% length of the audio region, it actually stops… if it gets closer to the end of the region, it jumps to the next song and doesn’t recognize the stop command, and it doesn’t even stop after 7sec. It keeps going, until, I do press stop twice.

I can't reproduce the issue. Please guide me step by step on what to do to see the issue.

Create a region with the last 5 sec of the song, not the last 5 bars, the last 5 secs of the entire audio track… like the last hit with the extra 2 secs silence.
Then just stop the playback in that last audio region, in my case, if we asume each 1sec of the last audio regions equals 20% of the duration of the audio region… during the first 60% of the running audio region, if you press stop, it does do it…. But if you press stop in the last 70-80% of the audio region length, kind of in the last second of the audio region, it automatically stops “visually” because the play button changes, but the audio goes to the next song while visually you remain in the same song that you pressed stop, and keeps going until you press the stop button, 1 time (loads visually the next song) and press stop for a second time (actually stops it)

If you still cannot reproduce it, I’ll do a video.

I received a video showing the issue.

It happens when stop is pressed at a time when the autoplay transition to the next song already started. The next song is not random, it is the next song scheduled for playback.

At that point it is simply no longer possible to stop as the transition is already running. The actual bug is that the next song is not shown and playback of the next song keeps running. I will try to fix that.

OK, so it was indeed possible to abort the autoplay transition. Version 4.0.15 will stop playback even when you hit stop a split second before the next song should start.
